I've had an slk55 for the last 12years and love it more than the day I bought it. Power, soundtrack, convertible 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊 plus its immense overtaking ability omg 60-120 is insane. Fantastic video well done.
I brought a 350 AMG and really liked it, then had the opportunity to get a 55, that engine just makes the car a blast. Then i saw a BMW Z4M, in candy apple red, well what could I do, so I traded a few of my other cars and got that. One is a torque monster that will cruise all day, the other is a high spirited manual handful, with a S54 engine that will rev in the 8K rpm range. They both reward in different ways, but what I must say is that I look forward to driving either them equally, as they both leave a smile on my face. Just my 2 cents worth. Thanks for a second review on one of these.
Had mine 11 years, but soon after acquiring it I discovered that the grip improves significantly with a full tank of fuel and below 1/2 tank you don't need to look at your fuel gauge to be reminded it's time to top-up (unless you are cruising on a motorway, of course..) Something else I found out early, they go off the line noticeably better with fresh air filters - and I recommend changing them much more frequently than the service schedule suggests.
I’ve had my 2005 SLK55 for 3 years now. Been rock solid dependable and still going strong at 134000 miles. Only downside is it can get to be a little rattly inside when the roads get bumpy.
I have had three SLKs. A 230 r170, a 350 r171 and now a SLK55 r171. I have loved them all. Unfortunately, although I have always treated all the seals, all three have had water ingress in the boot which I can live with, with the help of strategically placed microfibre cloths! The r171 gearbox unfortunately is not designed to cope with inner city speed restrictions and tends to change down too frequently but on the open road, the car comes into its own. I love the v8 growl and the acceleration is phenomenal. You just don't see many slk55s on the road which makes you feel a bit special and it is a love affair for me. I love my SLK 55!!!
Agreed but the upgraded headlights make it look far better as does the rear diffuser. I'm never selling mine. I enjoy it far too much. Only ~700 in the UK. Future classic for sure.
I sold my Z3M roadster & replaced it with a low mileage R231 SL500 in hyacinth red with cream leather. Not the AMG SL63 admittedly. But not much less power or performance. It's more than enough. In fact I'm in awe of it. The fact it takes an extra 200 or 300 milliseconds to reach the legal speed limit compared to the AMG is immaterial. 0 - 60 in 4.5 is fine with me.I'm loving it to bits. I considered an SLK55. But they're almost as expensive. A great little V8 roadster, but less car for the money. SLK55 £55k new. SL500 £85k new but only £3 or £4k more second hand for the SL. And it's an almost all aluminium engineering masterpiece. When I test drove the Slk55 the engine felt special. When I drive my SL500 the whole car feels special
@@DrivenPlus Thanks so much for replying. The roads do look amazing. I’ve heard so much about Wales being one of the most perfect areas for driving and I will certainly be checking out this area.
Thanks for the second review of the SLK 55 AMG. I always thought that they were quicker than the official 0-60 published figure and now I am sure of it. I’ve owned mine for about 5 years and agree that it’s true character is a sports/GT. interesting to hear that this almost 20 year old car can keep up with a an M4 CSL during spirited road driving.
Hi Julian, being the owner I can confirm that it holds its own vs the M4 CS. The car is a 2010 year so the last of the R171 and max was referring to the model age I guess. Great motors. Mine hasn’t missed a beat apart from tyres, servicing and brakes.
Never perfected any manual? This smaller engine version of this generation of Merc has an epic manual gearbox if you ask me, you should perhaps revisit one of those.
I did 155 mph in my SLK55 and then it changed UP into 7th gear which made me actually LOL because I thought it was already there. I ran out of road before I could find the limit...
Reason why these SLKs ad Boxsters have fewer takers lately is because cars like the Lexus ISF a full size family car hits 62mph in 4.6secs not to mention the c63 Benz✅
Hallo! May you please enlighten me on a general service of this car? How is the general maintenance and service of slk 55 amg? Does it take a lot of cash out of a pocket in replacement of certain parts that need to be replaced? This is absolutely my favourite roadster of all time and I am considering buying anyone between year model 2005 - 2015, as long as I find it in a mint condition both mechanically and physically. I must collect one of these definitely. I think you are one of the people who have massive experience with SLK 55 AMG and your enlightenment in this regard with be highly valued and appreciated.

That sums it up nicely.
Love mine. 2006 R171, 60k miles and still stunning. For those all-too-rare sunny British days NOTHING beats a top down V8.

Kevin, I would love to experience the Z4M with the S54 engine. Sounds like you have quite the choice! Thanks for commenting 👍
Always found mine grips better with the roof up. And mine gets exactly the same 4.5s on dragy to 60. (std power).

Love mine. X pipe is the only mod you need. Great little city daily
Nice 👌

This car was seriously gangster back in its day. And with modern cars being generally kind of wet, it’s even more gangster these days.
Yes it is, it is BAD.

Nice! I have a review of a Z4M coming soon actually.
@@DrivenPlus Great. I like your vids. Sensible information & not silly attempt by you to overproduce them & no distracting needless music added either
Thanks! Really appreciate that 👍
Very rare, looks better than the model after
I own and love a car where the engine is the main focal point. I 100% approve of this recipe! 😍 Nice review! 😎👏🏽
Thanks! 👍
Great start to a video🙌🏻🙌🏻
Glad you think so!
back then: Small car with V8 engine
nowadays: big car with V4 engine
WoW nice review, you took me back many Years…& where are these superb stretch of roads that you filmed this video at??
Thanks! These roads are in North Wales in the Denbighshire area

No problem. It certainly is an amazing area to drive. Certainly recommend
Good video, ill share in my blog
Thank you!

I have this engine in 190E with manual transmission...imagine that :)
Almost forgot these exist
They are a rare car!

Thanks Julian. The SLK55 certainly is a pocket rocket and is still a very fast car compared to modern day cars
Magazines quoted it at 4.3s back in the day.

BS I did 183 MPH in my 2003 SL 55 and it was still pushing. That was enough for me. :)

Great car!
It sure is Nosh!
I was the first to like 😇
Thanks John!
I bought mine to piss my neighbour off - best thing my neighbour did for me.
Love it ❤
😂😂
Imagine owing a Mercedes with M3 on the number plate 🫠

Buy an old V8, enjoy life ... until the service bills start coming 😅 Ask me how i know !
Don’t worry… I know that feeling too 🤣 #rangeroverlife
LOL.

Don't take it to a Merc mail dealer garage, they'll rob you. A decent mechanic is all you need. They're fairly bulletproof cars tbh
I have one...
Nice!
