    I'm 59, but a kid at heart, and I learn something from every one of your videos. The only thing I can think of for an ACTUAL kid, would be to stress the use of PPE, and explaining more about bee allergies without scaring them away from ever trying beekeeping.

    David, I received a new queen the other day and I did it the regular way of pulling out the cork cleaning out some of the find the dead that’s in the inside after four days she didn’t come out so I took out the opposite side cork put her in the top of the box lock in between two frames Watching her chest to come out she came out and took. What’s my chances of her coming back lol slim to none

    Hi David, Why do I occas see what looks like very small honeybees in the hive? They look markedly smaller than the regulars - are they born too early, or did they not develope properly?

    • @beek
      @beek  8 дней назад

      It's hard to say and it could just be genetics. They all have different dads.

    Hey David we watch you all the time! I have a question. I live in North Alabama. I have a 1 hive body hive with around 5 brood frames and 5 honey frames in the box. There were so many bees in the hive I added a super for extra space around a month ago for space. They are not drawing it out but seems to just be using the extra space. We have ordered your Honey Bee Kinds to use for the winter. Should I remove the super or leave it for the winter?

    • @beek
      @beek  8 дней назад

      If it is empty of resources I would not over winter with it on.

    I bought your winter bee kind feeder boards last season, both my hives overwintered in far northern Wisconsin and we had our best honey harvest ever. I have searched your website and can’t find a recipe for the candy to put in the board for this winter. Is there a recipe available? Thanks for a great channel and for helping me keep the ladies going year on year.

    People saying "Dont wear black" is just a myth

    • @beek
      @beek  8 дней назад

      I've worn black and bees have not responded any differently.

    • @AppalachiaBeekeeping
      @AppalachiaBeekeeping 8 дней назад

      @beek so the video you made that you say black is bad, and you showed it by shaking a black object above frames , that was myth or, Sir, I won't forget that video.
      Is the reason I bought a black bee jacket. To disprove the myth.
      As I had worn black gloves before with no issues.

    • @beek
      @beek  8 дней назад

      There's a bit of a difference between wearing black and irritating bees with a black sock. Instinctively, bears must be the worst enemy to bees. I wonder if the dark to black fur of bears instinctively triggers bees to become defensive. Obviously bears have a certain smell and invasive intention to alarm bees as well. But we do know that bees do not respond to a white irritant like they do black. But still, I can calmly wear a black shirt, as you say, and bees do not care. Maybe it's because I'm smoking them, and handling them with respect and appreciation which they may be able to sense?? Also, to determine if black is an issue, you would have to wear your black suit among 30+ hives with an additional control group to truly run a test.

    Regarding to the Apiguard use in the summer with one honey supper on, can we take the honey next year from those frames and consume? Or those frames ( medium) has to stay in the hive for now on. Do you mark them, or…? The frames can get mixed up and having residual from Apiguard could be unhealthy for humans? Thank you.

    I’m not sure why my comment has been removed about how to stop active robbing in progress which works hundred percent now I’m gonna add another comment which tells you why bees are wash boarding and the reason is: they scrub everything around the hive so nothing will find them they pretty much want to disappear for the fall from other insects, like wasps that do fly in a colder climate and warm winter, because they can be found by smell so that’s why they washboard everything around the hive on the landing board maybe next time someone’s gonna ask there will be an answer for it😂😂😂

    Hey David. Any thoughts on using rhubarb leaves for mite control? Had a bee keeper tell me that there is a chemical in the leaves is the same as some mite treatments. Thanks

    • @e.l.1303
      @e.l.1303 7 дней назад

      There wouldn't be enough oxalic acid in them, and the OA would need to be vaporized or put into suspension in a glycerine solution in pads where it can outgas. So no, the rhubarb leaves (or oxalis/shamrock leaves or monsteraa fruits) wouldn't be enough to accomplish mite reduction.

    Started the season with two hives. One just got wiped out with a wax moth infestation during all this flooding on the NC east coast. The queen survived. The other hive just had some drone brood. Hurt my back so my wife stepped in and combined them using the newspaper method. Very proud of her. Checked them today and they were removing drone brood larvae. Hopefully we can save it. Love the timestamp!!! Gets me to questions I need answered. Please continue doing it.

    When i had to move hives and the bees bearded outside, i sprayed some water from the top. They were very eager to get inside and get away from the rain 😂. That worked very well. Try that for putting on the robberscreens.
