My sincere apologies to all my members and viewers who were unable to leave a comment when the video first posted. Apparently, and unbeknownst to me, I had switched the comments off. Because all the members of my channel are able to view the videos prior to making it public, they will very often leave comments. Well, after 4 days of the private posting and with over 130 views, there were no comments which is unheard of, and with that many views, there should have been at least a dozen or more views but there were none. Congratulation to you and Mona on your anniversary! Goodness that was satisfying! It is totally surprising how much muck comes out of the wax though. These bees should really learn to wipe their feet 🤣
I enjoy these videos because I’m curious about bees and how they do their work. But the excitement you have when you dump the bucket and see the wax is great. It’s so hard to find things that are enjoyable.
Thank you very much for your interest in bees and for your kind words about my experience of them. Also, thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Mark. Mr. Ed
Happy Anniversary to you and your wife. I am always delighted to watch your videos as I have learned much about bee keeping, rendering, wax rendering. It reminds me of an elder friend who kept bees for his blueberry and strawberry fields, and pear orchard. I never really knew what he did with the wax...but we loved to go picking all three fruits and buy his honey knowing that the taste came from the efforts of his workers. Thanks for those memories...and the education you are passing along to us.
Thank you very much Larry, I'm a blessed man to have such a wonderful wife. Bees provide so many benefits for us, they are a true manifestation of the magnificence of God and His creation. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed
Mr Ed, I've been watching you all summer ever since I found your videos and I love them. I do go back to the old ones and try to see as many as I can. Thank you for all you do for us!
That is so very kind of you Melvin, I truly appreciate the fact you found my channel and are watching so many of the videos I have made, thank you very much. Until the next one, God's peace brother. Mr. Ed
Happy Anniversary! It is always enjoyable to see how you take scraping and turn them into something usable. When I see that big kettle, I get hungry for a low country boil too. 😅 God bless you also.
Thank you Melanie, and congratulations on your anniversary as well. That's really cool we share the same anniversary date! Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. Thank you so very much for the anniversary wishes as well as your kind words and for taking the time to follow along with my bee wrangling adventures. Until the next one, God's peace Wanda. Mr. Ed
That was awesome! Such a joy to see the rendering video! Congratulations for your anniversary! Remember the propolis traps. This is the best time to place them. While preparing themselves for winter, they propolize everything that they encounter. At least give it a try with some traps to start (10 maybe?). You can do so much good with propolis!! God bless!
I do have one pollen trap for my Apimae hive, so I will give it a try. Thank you for your blessings, anniversary wishes, and for taking the time to watch the video. God's peace. Mr. Ed
I love ❤ Bees Wax. When I go to buy candles, I always buy Bees Wax ones. I also use it on leather handbags, leather shoes etc. Helps protect them & to repel water off them.
With over 200 hives in our yards, we do get a bunch of wax, and though it seems to be a lot, almost all of it is used in the coming year. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks so much for watching. Also, I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Brian. Mr. Ed
Hello! I just wanted to give you a tip that if you were looking for food grade buckets, check with a grocery store that has cake decorating in it. I am a decorator for a small mam&pop grocery store and we get 5 gallon buckets of icing and when we use it up, we give the buckets away and they come with a seal tight lid. If you told the grocery store that these were for the Abby for the honeybees, they would probably give them to you as well. Or sell them very cheap. I enjoy your videos - we use to keep bees when we lived on acreage. We moved into a village and it’s not worth it when all the neighbors use pesticides. 🐝❤🐝
Thank you Joe, just another job for the working beekeeper...but a favorite one of mine for sure! My wife has also suggested the making of that video, and who knows, I may actually do that. Thank you for your suggestion and for taking the time to watch the video, it is greatly appreciated. Until the next one, God's peace. Mr. Ed
Wax rendering videos are always so much fun to do, and I love sharing the excitement of seeing what comes out after it is melted. And if you enjoy wax rendering videos, you may be very interested in Friday's post, it's another wax video but the method is very different. Let me know what you think. Thank you for your blessings and for watching. God's peace Jennifer. Mr. Ed
Good morning Mr.Ed Congratulations to u and Ms. Mona! Janet and I have been married 46 years! We are very happy. Three childern Janet was a stay-at-home mom! Her love helped put me thru medical school to be a GP MD. Retired, and we have a farm called Applewood Ranch in San Antonio, Texas. We have lots of beehives on the farm. God bless you and Ms. Mona! That is a lot of wax and a lot of work. Ya'll have a wonderful weekend yeah hear.
Suggestion....make a half-cone of metal screen to set over the bucket and outlet. Keeps bees out, you have full access to the valve, and Bobs your uncle. Let Brother Lazareth (sp?) know that he is most appreciated for his multitudinous skills from CA!
Hi Jeff I can’t wait till I have some bees to do all these little projects. Maybe turn a floor fan on to keep the bees out of harms way. Peace be with you.
The world needs as many beekeepers as it can get, so I can hardly wait for you to become one as well. I did not show it on the video, but I was running a fan while the wax wax being rendered and it helped tremendously keeping the bees away. Thanks for watching. God's peace Teddy. Mr. Ed
Wow that is a lot of wax. You scored on wax. I would say don't work too hard but it would not go far with you. I think you thrive on working. I have a feeling your retirement will be spent working. But you do it for God. That is what is so wonderful. NO profit for you. Just God's love. That is some good looking wax. I wish I could buy some candles. I know they sell them at the gift shop. Beeswax is so clean and smells so sweet. God bless you Jeff.
Yes indeed, and that's just the first rendering. I still need to do it at least once more to clean it up a bit more. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Lisa. Mr. Ed
I'd be McGuyvering up a custom metal screen with a handle to fit into the bottom of that kettle. Get all melted, then hook onto the handle to pull the screen out, and most of that debris will come out with it! Then you'll only need to worry about filtering out the finer contaminates. Not to mention... less clean-up!
I actually came up with that idea a few years back and started working on a screen that could accomplish the task. It did work, but I still had issues of trash in the wax and it was very difficult to lift the screen from the kettle. In the end, the method I use now, just leaving all the trash in the kettle contained by a screen in the throat of the gate, has been the simplest and least amount of work. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace. Mr. Ed
The great thing about bees eating honey, they don't care where they find it, on the ground or from a flower, to them it's all the same. Thank you for your anniversary wishes and for watching. Mr. Ed do you think the wax is near clean enough to make candles out of? Congratulations on 2 years! Mona is a special person to put up with you and your cohort of friends. LOL
For candle making I need to render the wax 3 times, but when I put the wax on foundation once is good enough. Thanks for watching and for the anniversary wishes. God's peace. Mr. Ed
It's to bad RUclips does not have smell-o-vision so you could smell just how delightful the blocks of wax are. Thanks for watching. God's peace Angela. Mr. Ed
Hi Mr Ed… I’ve been watching your content for years on & off!… but, I subscribed today because I just like the whole concept & what you do! I’m not trying to make more work for you, but I know that you make candles! Have you ever considered casting the candles for the UCO lanterns? It is a unique candle for emergency & camping lanterns. They have a tea light size & a small pillar size candle lantern! It would be a beneficial & easy way to help many people with beeswax candles (which are very hard to find for these lanterns). I’m sure that a cheaper alternative to the high market price & helping the Abbey at the same time is a win-win! I know that I would buy them without a question, as I am 62 now & very low income. Just a thought…
First, let me thank you for making the leap and subscribing to my channel, your gift is greatly appreciated. As far as making candles for the UCO lanterns, or for that matter, any other candle production other than what they use in Monk Soap to make candles, we just don't produce enough wax to make it happen, and as good a thing as it would bee to do that, for now, it is not a possibility. Again, thank you for subscribing and I look forward to hearing from you on the next one. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed
Delighted to hear you enjoyed the video, and I too find it somewhat surprising how much trash came from these cappings as it was brand new wax. Belated Happy Anniversary to you both. What an awesome wax haul. What do you do with your blocks of wax? Do you use them yourselves for things like waterproofing, soaps, and candles or do you sell them?

I love your wax videos especially. In fact it was searching for wax videos several years that led me to your channel, and I’ve been here ever since. One question: I know that bees use the honey when you have it in the hives as a base on the frames. Will they reclaim wax that is left out, or would they just clean the honey off and leave the wax?
What ever the reason that lead you to my channel, I'm very happy for it as you have been subscribed for 6 years and that's a very long time. Like you, and a whole lot of other viewers, I too love making and showing the wax rendering videos. It's just so cool taking beeswax and making these beautiful blocks of wax from them. To answer your question, the bees are for the most part getting the honey from the wax. However, I can not say with all certainty they are not taking a very small amount of the wax as well. Thank you very much for your faithfulness to my channel and for taking all that time to follow along. Until the next one God's peace Ralph. Mr. Ed
I will still need to render the wax once more to make it clean enough to use on our foundations next year, first video link below, and that is what I primarily use the wax for. However, I render it 2 more times and then give it to Monk Soap here at the abbey for their use of it in candles and balms, second video link below. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed ruclips.net/video/ijEIsxVlLhw/видео.html ruclips.net/video/G9RXmboBXTQ/видео.html
These capping came from about 120 deep honey supers, a process that took place over a period of 2 weeks. I would go and get about 25 supers and run them, and then go and get about 25 more. Check out the link below showing one of running of our honey supers. This year we had about 200 hives which is more than I want. I like having about 150 and that's where I'll be once I have sold some of the colonies. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. It just is not possible, unless it was frozen, to keep the mixture as it would go rancid. It's just simpler to feed them right away. Happy Anniversary to the both of you may you both be blessed with many more.💕💕💕Wow what an amazing bounty of wax . Do you all just use it for candle making or is there other uses just wondering. Such a beautiful place the Abby is. Jesus blessings to all. 💕💕💕🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much for your blessings and kind words, as well as taking the time to watch the video, it is all greatly appreciated. Most of the wax is given back to the bees so they can draw new comb on the plastic foundation in the frames, but a lot is given to Monk Soap in candle and balm production. In case you have not seen it, check out the video link below on all the cottage industries at the abbey. God's peace Grace. Mr. Ed ruclips.net/video/NzByZB7f7vI/видео.html
Part of the wax that is rendered is given to Monk Soap for the making of balms and candles, and because that wax is refined at least 2 more times, it is placed in molds. The video link below shows that process. Thanks for watching. God's peace Karen. Mr. Ed ruclips.net/video/FxJUTM4unzk/видео.html
Good morning from Odessa Florida. How long did it take to bees to clean up the buckets? Congratulations on your anniversary and thank you for another wonderful video
Good morning David. My prayers go out to all Floridians who are in the path of Hurricane Helene, but it looks like Odessa may escape a lot of the damage. Within 2 days all the honey water that was poured out on the ground was gone as well as the buckets cleaned up. Thank you for your anniversary wishes and for taking the time to watch the video, and you may want to take a look at tomorrows video, it too is about wax melting but using a solar wax melter. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed
The manufacturer of the kettle is Vulcan, and they do make smaller versions. However, due to the cost of them, I would highly recommend you look into used kitchen equipment and find a used one, very often they are quite affordable. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed
Yes it will. For me, there is nothing prettier than a brand new frame with brand new honey and wax on it. It is one of my biggest joys of being a beekeeper that I have. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed
Mr Jeff, got a question. I have about 3 acres of land near the Red River in Pineville area. I am currently working on harvesting trees and I grow a bunch of Kahali Ginger…trying to start a nursery. Anyway, don’t know if this is a thing, but I would like to see if I could make a little passive income. Either storing boxes (property was a car wash years ago, so well drained concrete), letting a keeper set boxes to feed, or really anything…ha! I’m willing to learn to “watch” the boxes and would like to have bees one day, just don’t have the money currently. Appreciate it and your channel, it’s very informative. Best✌🏼🤙🏼😊
Awesome idea on generating some income. I would suggest locating a bee club in Alexandria or Pineville and present your idea to them. Who knows, it may present itself as a good thing to a beekeeper. Let me know how it goes. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. @@JeffHorchoff awesome! Thank you. I’ll look online and see. We aren’t too far from the VA and the Wildlife & Fisheries facilities…maybe they would have some info too. Yes, sir. I just caught your channel a few weeks ago, it appears to BEE a great resource. Appreciate the time Mr. Jeff, I’ll update you on any progress and if anyone reads this and wants to add info/ideas, please do so. I was thinking there may be an app or community already that organizes. I know keepers bring bees to farms for pollination, but it may also be beneficial to the honey to have a variety of input nectars. Have a great week!😊✌🏼

@@JeffHorchoff what’s the name of it because I couldn’t find it on amozon ? I watch ur videos all the time they are great. I wish I had Gods piece. I find it very hard when I have to go through hard times, I’m going through something hard now. For some people it might not be a big deal for me but I overthink everything, get overwhelmed easily and stressed out easily. There’s really nobody that I can talk to, nobody that will really understand. Most people are too busy to talk and not really caring. Life is full of challenges every day and lots of times I just wish life would pass by even though I have everything in life and have good health.
what kinda buckets are those that you use for pouring the wax into? ive been using orange home depot buckets, with a l id over top to cool, and every time they crack and the wax gets stuck to the side of the bucket. makes for a heck of a time trying to get the wax out without breaking up everywhere.
They are 7 gallon, food grade plastic bucket that contained coconut oil used in our Monk Soap operation. Whenever I need buckets I ask for them and they give them to me. It is relatively easy getting the wax out of them, but from time to time, I get difficult ones that cause me to work getting them out. Thanks for watching. God's peace Dan. Mr. Ed
8:45 - is there some sort of cover you could put over the bucket and pipe to prevent them from getting at it while the hot wax is pouring out? Might help a few of them have it not "go well" for them ;)
Any cover that would be place over the bucket as the wax is dripping would hinder that flow. What I did to prevent the bees from getting into the wax was place a fan near by and blow the air towards the dripping wax. It was strong enough to keep the bees away and still allow the wax to flow unobstructed. Thanks for watching and for your suggestion. God's peace. Mr. Ed
Would the cappings be a good approximation of wax production? The combs are just started with your prep right? Maybe cappings plus X% of the comb wax? I was thinking maybe a wipe of the buckets with a paper towel with cooking oil would let the wax loose. Shouldn't be enough to contaminate the wax I don't think.
I never considered an equation for wax production, as long as the bees produce it, I'm ecstatic. It is difficult sometimes to get the wax out of the buckets, especially when the blocks are very large, but for the most part it is simple enough. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Dave. Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff it’s just random curiosity of the scale of things, we can see honey production directly but with the reuse of wax it’s not so clear how much wax bees produce is all. I’m funny like that.
Happy Anniversary Jeff Many Blessings. My Oregano is in full bloom and covered in honey bees even though there are no domestic hives near us for more than 2-3 miles. Is there a way I can find out where they are traveling from. I love using Beeswax on my woodturnings. I just can't find much locally.
Thank you for our anniversary blessings. I never was any good at "lining" bees, finding out where their hive actually was by following one, but I'm positive there are videos on that very subject if you are interested. One of the volunteers here at the wood shop is also a turner and I give him beeswax for the exact same reason. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed
If the last block you opened was not the first one you made, it makes sense that it would need longer to harden. I also think it could be because there’s too much wax in the bucket, it held more of the heat than the smaller blocks
I'm always amazed how you get the wax out of the buckets. All of that horribly nasty wax I bought (165lbs) was murder to get out of the buckets. I actually split around a third of the buckets, beating them with a 4lb dead blow hammer. The wax was a puke brown. Three hours down, three hours back. A terrible waste of time, money and effort.
Oh, that stinks. Reminds me of a load of sheeps wool I once got, where the shearer mixed the hair sheep shearing with some truly lovely Merino crosses.....
It may be because the buckets are food grade the wax blocks come out so easily. How horrible a story you had, I can only imagine your frustration at the entire process. God's peace Jay. Mr. Ed

Congratulation On Your Anniversary Mr Ed And Mona. Amazing Videos. Just love What You Do For Your Bees. ❤
Thank you so very much for the anniversary wishes as well as your kind words and for taking the time to follow along with my bee wrangling adventures. Until the next one, God's peace Wanda.

I love ❤ Bees Wax. When I go to buy candles, I always buy Bees Wax ones. I also use it on leather handbags, leather shoes etc. Helps protect them & to repel water off them.
Happy Anniversary, wishing you many more.
Man congratulations to you and your wife!!!!
That kettle has a genius design!!! (Happy belated anniversary to you and Mona)
You are very meticulous.
These are my absolute favorite videos.
I have another wax rendering video next week, a lot different process than this one. Stay tuned. Thanks for watching. God's peace.

I can not even imagine! I think we had about 4-5 lbs this year. Thanks for sharing!
With over 200 hives in our yards, we do get a bunch of wax, and though it seems to be a lot, almost all of it is used in the coming year. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks so much for watching.
🐝❤🐝
I actually use them, I have about 15, 4 gallon pails I get from a local restaurant. Thanks for watching. God's peace Lisa.
Mr. Ed

Mr Ed, could you make an hour long video of just bees cleaning out buckets or the frames after a honey run? It is a very relaxing buzz...
My wife has also suggested the making of that video, and who knows, I may actually do that. Thank you for your suggestion and for taking the time to watch the video, it is greatly appreciated. Until the next one, God's peace.
Mr. Ed
By far my favorite videos!! So relaxing! Blessings from Alaska! Jennifer
Great idea about the screen, thanks for that and for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Congratulations, Happy Anniversary!
Hi Jeff
I can’t wait till I have some bees to do all these little projects.
Mr. Ed
I enjoyed seeing the process.
And I really do love sharing the experience as it is just so cool! Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Happy anniversary Jeff and Mona!
My wedding anniversary is also September 13. It has been a great 21 years for us! Best wishes to you and Mona.
Congratulations on your anniversary and for the many years you have been together, that is so beautiful. God's peace Matthew.

Happy anniversary!
Don't forget to warm up first. Enjoy the sounds. Thanks for watching and listening. God's peace.

Such beautiful wax
Yes indeed, and that's just the first rendering. I still need to do it at least once more to clean it up a bit more. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Lisa.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff I've been watching you for years I love your videos and your uplifting kind spirit I tell others too.
Bon Anniversaire to you & Mona🥂 Yes, you saved the best for last. I wonder what the 🐝 think of clean honey?😂
The great thing about bees eating honey, they don't care where they find it, on the ground or from a flower, to them it's all the same. Thank you for your anniversary wishes and for watching. Also, I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them.

Happy anniversary!
Mr. Ed
Goodness that was satisfying! It is totally surprising how much muck comes out of the wax though.
Delighted to hear you enjoyed the video, and I too find it somewhat surprising how much trash came from these cappings as it was brand new wax. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace.

Great video. Will the bees take any of the wax back to the hive?
To my knowledge, bees do not bring wax back to the hive it's only honey they are interested in. Thank you for your kindness Larry, it is always appreciated. God's peace brother.

Belated Happy Anniversary to you both.

Mr. Ed
What do you do with the rendered wax? Could you refine it another time for a more pure wax?
I will still need to render the wax once more to make it clean enough to use on our foundations next year, first video link below, and that is what I primarily use the wax for. However, I render it 2 more times and then give it to Monk Soap here at the abbey for their use of it in candles and balms, second video link below. Thanks for watching. God's peace.

That’s a great wax harvest ,how many colonies or frames of honey did that take to get ? How many hives are you running 2023/24 season ?
These capping came from about 120 deep honey supers, a process that took place over a period of 2 weeks. I would go and get about 25 supers and run them, and then go and get about 25 more. Check out the link below showing one of running of our honey supers. This year we had about 200 hives which is more than I want. I like having about 150 and that's where I'll be once I have sold some of the colonies. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. Have you ever thought about saving some of the water you pour out from the process to feed the hives over the winter? Just a thought.
It just is not possible, unless it was frozen, to keep the mixture as it would go rancid. It's just simpler to feed them right away. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them.
Mr. Ed

Is there a video of the wax being put I to molds? And the finished product?
Part of the wax that is rendered is given to Monk Soap for the making of balms and candles, and because that wax is refined at least 2 more times, it is placed in molds. The video link below shows that process. Thanks for watching. God's peace Karen.

Mr. Ed
What is the cook pot equipment you use for separating the wax, where might I purchase something like that in smaller version?
The manufacturer of the kettle is Vulcan, and they do make smaller versions. However, due to the cost of them, I would highly recommend you look into used kitchen equipment and find a used one, very often they are quite affordable. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff God bless you as well, I am just a new beekeeper and I really love your channel

Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff Great idea with the blowing air! Love your vids, "keep on making more"!
Good morning
Some people use a 5 gallon paint strainer bag to filter the drained hot wax.
There are so many different ways to get the job done, and I'm very satisfied with the process I use. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
I agree, for those reasons the block had not fully hardened. I think I need to practice more patience. Thanks for watching. God's peace Jayne.
Mr. Ed
Mr. Ed
Is the raw honey and honey that has been heated a different product?
Yes it is. Once honey reaches temperatures above 114 degrees, the active particles inside of begin dying and so the honey is changed. The honey is still honey but the benefits of it are somewhat reduced. Jeff, what liquid do you use in the jacket of your heated honey tank? Water or oil? If oil, what type and has it ever gone rancid? Thank you for your videos. I always learn something from them.
I use distilled water, it's simple, cheap, and if spilled, it drys up without making a mess.
