Thank you. I'm in Scotland, and in some areas we have lethal little insects called midges (think tiny, tiny mosquitoes by the million) but we don't have screen doors here. We just don't open doors and windows in midge season. I needed to know how a screen door works because I've only seen them in movies. Now I can build one. Thanks again.
I love the way your aways their for your Mom. It's so lovely it brings tears to my eyes. And maybe slightly a bit envious. I'm sure Grandma Carol will love the screen door! Go RidgeLife ✌
I grew up in a seers in roebuck house. My dad remade a screen door hand drilled no power tools. Took a lot more time, looked exactly like your door brought back lots of memories. God bless you Tim and your family.
Thank you sir!! I followed you step by step and installed my screen door lol. I had to use some weather stripping to quiet down the slam lol it was too loud
Thank you for this video. I was hung up on the hinges and flipping them to offset was the answer. It worked perfectly and enjoying the nice breeze flowing thru the house.
I love the old screen doors and how the slam. LOL That's how our parent's knew what we were up to, if we were excited, mad, or whatever! Didn't know that's how you can offset your hinge though. Thanks for the info!
Good job Brother. Granma Carol's going to love leaving the doors open with the heat coming and the screen doors keeping out the pests. My best to all the family and stay safe on the Ridge
Corner brace/bracket installation should be predrilled and the pilot holes should be drilled angled away from the joint. Thx for the video! Some good advice on some things I didn’t consider
Very important questions. #1 can you recommend any other hardware for locking the inside other then that type of latch? #2 for someone with pets, wanting the air flow and view for the pets, but not wanting them to push it open and get out, can you recommend anything for the outside? Only problem is, I don't want someone messing with it and locking me IN. I hope no one else already asked this, I may not have read enough comments. I LOVE the way you did this. Simply explained. Ive wanted a screen door on my backdoor for 14 years, and this year, I'm doing it myself! Thank you so much for this!
great explanation! I've been screening in a portion of our front porch and my last step is figuring out how to build the door frame and hang the door. This will help!
All of these builds and repair jobs everyone keep showing reminds me of my childhood and working with my Dad. Great memories. Thanks for showing each set of hinges, and how to make the off set hinge. I remember my Dad making the corner braces out of a triangle of wood. And he put two 2×2 side to side right above the halfway point so little hands didn't go through the screen. Lol Love your Beautiful flowers. Thanks for sharing Tim. Stay happy, healthy, hydrated and safe. May God continue to bless you, your family and your adventures.
I am making that exact style door for one of my friends. Are the hinges heavy enough for the door? I am so excited I found your video. I gave her the link for the hardware. Thanks!
first of all, I want to say I think this is a great video and you've gone above and beyond here, I got the same kind of door except I think mine is very warped, Even before I hinged it, So I think really the first step should be identifying that your door is straight maybe?
Thanks for this video! I was lucky and didn't have to cut any edges to fit. I knocked out this project this morning and it looks great with your help. Pretty much had the exact door (but a 32") and hardware. ✌
is there another way to use the offset hinge? I’m in an unfinished stucco home and there’s not a lot of wood to drill into on the left of the frame. Can i utilize the space between the door and screen door with the offset hinge?
How do you keep the screen from splitting when you add the spring to the backside of the screen door? It seems like when you drill it you potentially create a tear? Great video THANKS for all the great information!
The screen covers the whole back side (1 solid piece) which you have to drill through the screen in order to attach the eyelet for the spring. Drilling into the screen leads to potential tear… is there a way to prevent that other than being extra careful? And thanks for the quick response before my second comment/questions. Excellent video indeed!
You never mentioned using 2 temporary shims under the bottom of the door for clearance. I had a neighbor put in two screen doors in, & they've scrapped since day 1. You did a great job!!! Wish I'd seen this video before mine were installed😏. VOTE BLUE💙
Hi Tim I was wondering I bought a screen wood door from Lowe’s and one side has the wood and the other side is just the screen. The side that is just screen would be turned to inside but where would we drill hole for the spring ? It would be through the screen since the wood frame is only on one side. Is that what you did?
I can't wait to install my screen door. I misplace my screws. I also need to frame my front door. I don't know how to frame it. Now I have to buy shims or ask for some extra hands I need to practice using a drill.
Even if you're very old you can still do it piece of cake, Too many people think it's hard to do and they won't try but shoot I do just about everything .
Thank you. I'm in Scotland, and in some areas we have lethal little insects called midges (think tiny, tiny mosquitoes by the million) but we don't have screen doors here. We just don't open doors and windows in midge season. I needed to know how a screen door works because I've only seen them in movies.

Looks good brother 👊👍 FJB
Thanks 👍
I do hinge pilot holes with self-centering bits.
Perfect!
Add a self closer so that way it doesn’t slam and they have inside handles that have a locking mechanism at the bottom
But the slam is classic! Ha! Thx!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Thank you for this! It helped a lot!!
Good deal!
Thank you

Great How To man! Doors look awesome on the cabin👊
Thanks man!
We may need to mount our screen door on top of the door casing. How would we set hinge for that?? Thanks
Ooh sorry I would have to see it first.
Great video! Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
I could use a closer look at the hinge install.
Sorry for that.
Does the spring have to go in center of door or can it go at the top or bottom?
I think it will be ok wherever you put it.
Wow, thank you for this video!

Great video THANKS for all the great information!
The spring is only on the wood cross bar. Doesn’t get near the screen.
The screen covers the whole back side (1 solid piece) which you have to drill through the screen in order to attach the eyelet for the spring. Drilling into the screen leads to potential tear… is there a way to prevent that other than being extra careful?

@@hshadowens9695 you are so right! I had to go look. We haven’t had any issues but I bet a fender washer would help with any stress or tearing.
Thanks for reminding me to put a spring on my chicken coop run door
Ha! Oh yeah!
NICE😊👍🏼✌🏼🇺🇸
Thx!
Maybe a dumb question but the top or bottom of the hinge hitting at 8”?
Top of the hinge to top and bottom of door 8".
good job
Thanks!

Are these the Lowe's doors and install kits?
The doors are from Lowe’s. The hardware kit I got on Amazon. The link is in the description of the video.
Key info missing, such as are there hinges for different size offsets or just quarter inch?
Ooh! Don’t know. I didn’t see options like that when I ordered them. They fit great!
Hey buddy! 👋
Howdy man!
FIRE bro
Thanks 🔥
I can't wait to install my screen door. I misplace my screws. I also need to frame my front door.
I don't know how to frame it. Now I have to buy shims or ask for some extra hands
I need to practice using a drill.
Good luck!
It looks like you cannot paint the back of these doors, is that correct?
It's wood on both sides. Not sure why you couldn't paint them. We stained ours.
Take the screen out and you can paint/stain. Then just put the screen back in place
it was an inch short, and I cut it three times, but it was still too short, , , I should have used a wood stretcher.
Ouch!
Why were offsets needed?
Due to the door facing depth.
Good video except I've done all those things before and rescreened doors and windows
Oh yeah! Fun to do yourself!
Even if you're very old you can still do it piece of cake, Too many people think it's hard to do and they won't try but shoot I do just about everything .
Why didn't the hinges go inside the jamb?
The door has an offset jam.
A $12.00 magic mesh is looking better/easier the longer this video goes on
Give it a go!
"Guys, if I can do it, so can you." Girls can do it, too! Thanks for the guidance.
Absolutely!
