In Australia in the olden days Wog used to refer to people of Italian, Greek, Maltese descent. Then over time it included not just Mediterranean but Middle Eastern and even Eastern European.
Wog, wop and dago covered the above, but we also had skips and doggers for the Aussies, poms or pomies or POME's for the English or our most offensive terminology Abo's for the Aboriginal .... don't think I ever heard the N word until rap music reached Australia though. But that's the word we can't use anymore? Well that and a certain block of cheese 😮
@@robosock380 That's originally a derogatory term from America. That's what the Ku Klux Klan called Black Americans. So that word is internationally offensive.
@@CeasefireNow2024 No it isnt. Wog is an abbreviated term to reference the curly black hair of Golliwog dolls a highly popular kids doll in Australia & England in the 50s,60s,70s. 'Golliwog' was originally a character in a series of book created by Florence Kate Upton even further back in the early 1900s.
@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 we're multicultural. These guys are a middle eastern heritage. Australians, in general, don't have a chip on their shoulder and can laugh at ourselves and "wog" humour.
@@DaleRyan-g5r You missed my point. Jono is a pom who now lives in Australia.. That means he is an English person now living in Australia. Now, England invaded Australia. And then you will see my point as to why our humour is similar..
Glad you liked this. It is very Australian. WOG was originally a derogatory term for Mediterranean region immigrants. But it's import began to change from 1987 on with "Wogs out of Work": a play satirizing Greek-Australians, written and performed by Australians with Greek ancestry. It was followed by the very successful TV show "Acropolis Now". While it's use can be contextual, I would say the wog is now more a term of affection than anything else. It no longer has any serious stigma. The fact that Superwog is part-funded by both the Australian federal govt, and the Victorian state govt, is evidence for this change.

It's clear this Aussie humour is lost on the guys on the left and middle. The guy on the right got some of it, and being British I'd expect that. I'd rate this reaction a big fail.
Fun fact. When the tall ships arrived in AUS in the 1700 to begin colonisation, there were tents set up on shore for both the prisoners and non-prisoners to go thru an examination, with a doctor for their fitness to fit into the general population. Us Aussies call the "Brits" - POMs or Pommy's. That is because their paperwork when first arrived in AUS and went thru this examination, was marked by the doctors on board as POM - Which stands for: "Prisoner of her Majesty". The non-prisoners their paperwork was marked by the doctors as "WOG" - which stands for: "Without Gonorrhoea. Seems like Gonorrhoea was an issue of that time. So, put simply, ALL NON-CONVICTS were called WOGS. Gotta LOVE history! But it is true, in the 70's onwards, WOGS applied to all the Greeks and Italians and other Europeans EXCEPT for the UK - They ARE POMS.- ALL OF THEM. Even upto today! Unfortunately, 2nd & 3rd generation Brits HATES this terminology of them
Yeah, these guys have been around a loooooong time and they're heavy on the improv. They used to (maybe still do) collab with MyChonny who is also very funny. Check out *Nat's What I Reckon* for some uniquely Aussie humor.
Wog was originally a terrible slang term for the people called it but in the 1970s&1980s onwards the people who were called it embraced the term & wear it with pride & the term is now a term of affection
In Australian speak... "wog" was a derogatory term applied to mainly Italian and Greek migrants. Today its a more general expression applied to just about every non English speaking migrant and can almost be an endearment.

WOG used to stand for Western Oriental Gentleman, so it was kinda a catch all for Western Europeans (think, Italian, Greek, Maltese) and people from what was then termed The Orient (at the time, not now, think Middle East) I’m not sure why east Asia isn’t captured under this heading as I am pretty sure that was also considered ‘The Orient’ at the time. Anyway, it’s been passed down through time and basically now refers to anyone of European decent that isn’t the very far west of Europe, sort Italy heading east and through the Middle East. It used to be a really derogatory term but it go reclaimed at some point and now most people who would fall under the general wog banner would probably happily call themselves a wog. As an example, my mum is a first generation Australian from a Bosnian background and was regularly called a wog as a slur when she was a kid but would now happily use it to refer to herself or the food her dad used to cook was called ‘the wog food’ in our house, as in ‘mum, will you make the wog food?’
That actress didn't actually have botox, the point was just that in the fictional world of the skit he spotted it as if that was something he could caution her about. And no it's nothing to do with making a person's lip protrude a bit.
Sorry my American friends but you just don’t get our Australian humour. We are truly unique, don’t give a hoot type people. We have many lunatics that are trying to cancel our sense of humour, but thank God for our Aussie spirit.
