Eating Only What I Catch SURVIVAL in DEEP SNOW (NO Food, Water, Shelter) | Stone Arrows, Bow, Wire

  • I gather 10-survival-items and head out into the Northern Canadian Wilderness to set up a primitive shelter, hunt by primitive stone arrows and longbow, and drive the elusive snowshoe hare in deep snow.
Vision Quest Outdoors (arrows): / @wildernessquestoutdoors
River Bend Longbows (longbow): / @riverbendlongbowsoutd...
I set up snares, and push rabbits from their daytime hiding spots into a snare line carefully crafted to intercept moving hares. I also build a primitive shelter using natural materials with the help of snow, branches, a shovel and a saw under a fallen tree. I use my pot to make rabbit stew and to boil water for drinking. Winter survival is all about staying warm, and more importantly, staying dry. After that, survival is about gathering food and other sustenance so that it's more about thriving than just suffering.
10-Item Primitive Winter Survival Challenge (NO Food, Water, Shelter) | Stone Arrows, Bow, Wire, Saw
    My 10 Winter Survival Items:
    1. Pot
    2. Shovel
    3. Tarp
    4. Lighter
    5. Saw
    6. Snowshoes
    7. Snare Wire
    8. Long Bow, and Stone Arrows
    9. Sheers
    10. Seat (luxury item)
We also catch some snowshoe hares in the deep snow by setting some snares. Winter survival is difficult, but with knowledge and experience, surviving in Canada can still be comfortable.
Primitive challenge with a few simple basic tools. I will show you how to start a fire. After survival is taken care of, it's all about making your situation even better. Finding food, water, and making a shelter is a must to create ultimate survival comfort. I use a saw and basic tools to make a bushcrafter shelter in the Canadian forest using materials around us like tree branches.
Thankfully there is plenty of snow to make water, but first a fire is needed to survive as eating snow cools the body and is difficult on the body's system. Thankfully we have a small billy can or steel water pot for boiling water.

Try to incorporate some Braggs apple cider vinegar into your diet each morning. Drink it through a straw though to avoid as much on the teeth due to the acidity of the vinegar.
The liquid or even gummies would work fine either way but if liquidmake sure it has the "mother" in it. Braggs brand is the best for that.
It will help neutralize amd balance the acid in your stomach naturally.
The spices being eaten I'm sure aren't helping with it but hey you do you, just a suggestion is all.
My daughter has gerds and cow dairy products and store bought eggs effect her horribly but goat dairy products do not and fresh laid no antibiotics added eggs from our own chickens don't effect her any what so ever.
Get a peppermint plant and chew on a leaf or 2 as well when it flares up real bad, you could even dry them and pack a few with you in a zip lock bag on your trips and make a peppermint tea even.
Just trying to help the best I can with suggestions that I know help our 11yr old daughter. She use to be on liquid Zantac from the time she was 2. We paid attention and eventually changed her diet and incorporated the peppermint and vinegar. Night and day now and no more man made prescription meds past 5yrs old. Straight up water can actually be hard on your stomach as well. Doesn't react well with the stomach acid. Keep that in mind as well. Hints the peppermint tea and maybe add some honey and even jasmine to it. 👍

When i lived in cannada and when I was an eagle scout we would go survive and camp in the snow and midle kf winter and we lived in way up north side of Ontario where it got really cold and tons kf snow and would survive in groups of three by ourself for a week and all we could bring for each person was a thermal blanket a small tarp and flint for starting fire and one way to catch food per person be either a ice fishing pole with a small collapsible survival habd auger, sling shot, or a small collapsible sjngle shot survival 410 shot gun that had a tube insert that was rifled to be able to ahoot 22lr out of jt as well with 5 rounds kf ammo and that's it. And we made kt out alkve no injuries and problems evsr and it was fun and the snow shelters we made under the snlw was so warm and cozzy you cohld sleep in your blanket in your bkxers and t shirt or else you aojld over heat and sweat and then freeze from saeating all night in your winter clothes.

I honestly wish snare wasn’t the most viable option here, snares kill slowly…it’s literally the animals panic trying to escape that eventually kills it 🙃 don’t get me wrong survival is survival, it’s a necessity but I just wish there was a better way than snares, that’s all.

Get beef bones from your butcher. Put three or four lbs on a sheet pan and sprinkle with apple cider vinegar and bake for 45 min to an hour at 425 degrees. Put that in a pot or slow cooker and cover the bones with no more than an inch of water. Bring to a boil then reduce to a low simmer for twelve to 16 hours. Pull out the bones and run the broth through a fine strainer or flour sack. Let the broth cool and then refridgerate it. Pull the beef tallow off the top and freeze it for someone else to fry with. The bone broth will look and act like a stiff gelatin. Heat some up daily in a mug in the morning salt to taste. I guarantee that it will fix your digestive system. Also, stay away from hydrogenated fats and oils. You might also need to visit someone conversant with food allergies like a nutritionist as well as just seeing your doctor.

On my way thing I’d watch out for is if there’s any heavy rocks or snow that could potentially fall on you, maybe even while you’re sleeping. He did a good job cuz the fires heat won’t melt the snow up top but long term survival I’d be careful with that. Picked a similar spot camping last year for a weekend. By the second day my fire had melted the snow that was giving me shade and it all came down onto my fire lol. Had to dig out and make a new fire. Good thing it didn’t fall on me tho cuz the heat had melted and hardened the remaining snow so it was like a block of ice.

For things like rabbits you might want to just use blunt arrows. This stone points are fairly large(for stone points), and if you use them for too small game they’ll tear it to shreds, but they’ll have too much friction to take game larger than deer. Those are nice points, and clearly functional, but might be a bit big for rabbits.

Oil lantern or candle? It's funny, because there really are zero feasible alternatives to any of those. Bow drill fire, and spending all day collecting pine tar to make a tiny torch? It's a comparison between a chainsaw, saw, or just breaking branches with your bare hands. I've never really grasped the idea of how primitive you go before you just sit in the woods eating cold snow straight from the ground while starving. It's either, you get some hand tools, and go, or you just wait out the clock like Les Straud - who never eats, or does much of anything productive. I can tell you that no one else is going out consistently building something to sleep in, then catching any food all in one challenge besides Zach - and he compounds inside of 30 days, with lots of misses. I spent 4 hours walking around for hare.... This is actually about as difficult as it gets. If you bring 3000 calories like Luke from Outdoor boys, you can spend all your time building. But on empty, little can be done. It's the reality. The balance.

@@ChirpyMike fair call mate..we all take different gear into the scrub mate like in my summer pack is completely different from my winter pack but in both packs i carry a lighter a little folding saw and head lamp and that's just in case you get stuck for some reason the Aussie scrub is very unforgiving oh and a snake bite kit is mandatory..

I keep thinking to myself, all those camera angles of you walking away are making you lose more energy than if you just walked with a go pro. You have to walk back and grab the camera each time you do that

Love the videos. I use them as background noise while i make food. I do watch and listen to try and pick up new skills. I know this is almost a year old video by now but if your still having gut issues ive been there and i think i may be able to point you in a good direction. If your interested let me know.

Keep up the good work buddy the show was entertaining, talking about gas stomach i usually take the citro-mag it's basically a magnesiun oral solutions it cleans up the stomach of bad bacteria so i only do it twice or three times a year. It's such a relief and also helps alot not catching any flu or cold during seasonal change.

Chicken feet are also full of collagen..just be sure to discard all the floating fats and oils. Strain out the bones and meat which won't really be edible due to all the small bones after a long overnight simmer in a pot.

The small bones can be a pain, but it's the best way to get the most of out of hare.
