Apparently the cobalt colour you mention was the most expensive colour paint during the renaissance, so that's why the virgin Mary is often wearing it in art from that era! The artists thought she deserved the best
emma talking about books = pure joy
Triggered! My eye started twitching at 2:02
During my last term as an Undergrad (during March and the lockdown in Oregon), I had a philosophy professor assign us Camus' The Plague. I couldn't tell if he had a dark sense of humor or just evil. Shortly after finishing the book, news stories started coming out about Colorado squirrels testing positive for the bubonic plague...I've never looked at a squirrel the same.
I- what. Bubonic squirrels. That’s a first
@@sarcastic_fish My brain glitched too! But in 2020, they year of man-killing wasps, COVID, signs of life on Venus, wildfires galore, American politics...nothing surprises me anymore.
That top you're wearing is so gorgeous oml!
Retold stories can definetly be interesting, and perhaps more valuable than a translation, or even the original such as in Shakespeares work etc.
But I still think it’s valuable to acknolwedge and retain the significance of works handed down through history, they have an immeasurable value and are still the foundations on which the retelling has been done. And just as retelling can improve a story, it can blur out parts of that foundation, making it somewhat culturally incoherent.
However I do still recognise that these works being published does signify and spur a rising public interest in the myths of classical antiquity, which is great.
P.S Also that cobalt colour is called Marian blue, and was quite expensive and usually reserved for the Madonna’s cape (hence Marian) in renaissance art and afterwards.
I can't understand why someone hasn't snapped you up for a film/movie as you are a great actress & totally photogenic, please answer.
I'm on a no-buy too bc even my mom who lives in another country told me I'm buying too many books. I beg to differ, no such thing as too many books!
You totally look like you could play an actress in an 18th/19th century movie!! You definitely have that classical look...btw LOVE LOVE you, your sense of humour and your videos! Xx
11 minutes of Emma talking about making films and inspiring the heck out of me, yes please! :3
I'm the same. Once I start it's hard to stop buying and now I have a thrift books account, so it's probably worse. I hope the lockdown doesn't happen, but it happens I'll deal like everyone else.
Just ordered "A Journal of the Plague Year" as you were talking about it... I'm intrigued!
I love your top/dress! x
So do I! Where’s it from?xx
I'm sooo excited for your next dyslexia videos!
Albert Camus is a great author to read during the pandemic! Highly suggest reading “Summer in Algiers” for anyone who misses the beach!
The Plague wasn’t one of my favorites in his oeuvre but is definitely a chilling parallel to the events of 2020.
Emma has returned! Fuck yessssss ✨✨
Really excited for the dyslexia video! Also if you like retelling you should read Hagseed by Margaret Atwood! It’s a kind of retelling of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. :)
Your videos always make me so happy😊
Favorite youtuber🥰
Yes! More books!
Haven't watched you videos in a hot minute but it's nice to be back! Hope you are keeping safe during the pandemic. I am currently on day 4 of my 14 day isolation and I've not gone mad yet. Keep making amazing content 💙
Oh god hope the self isolation isn’t too bad!!
@@sarcastic_fish it could be worse, I've got your videos to watch to keep my busy
Where is your shirt from?
When I need management advice I read Plutarch’s Fall of the Roman Republic.
this made me giggle
Has anyone else read Severance by Ling Ma this year? I read it entirely for the parallels to 2020/Covid-19. I've also ordered Camus' The Plague and Defoe's Journal of the Plague Year so I'm excited to get stuck into those next.
They are just too hard to resist! You picked up some good ones though xxx
Emma I am absolutely in love with your top😍 May I ask where is it from? xx
It is impossible to stop buying books. I think, nope, I am not going to buy any today and then by the end of the day I have another four or five books to get through. Daniel Defoe was a wonderful storyteller, read the plague year one but never Roxana.
Roxana is wonderful and underrated I super recommend it
@@sarcastic_fish will check it out ! Thank you for the recommendation
I've read Dafoe and camus in😄 September
xoxo from Brazil 🇧🇷 i love your videos
Which lipstick is this??
