I’ll always say this kind of genre has some of the best live performers across all forms of music. It’s all about the song, music, and the feeling. No ego or attention- just pure energy
Well said man. Music was so much more giving. it was an outlet for the artist. The mainstream now is just full of people on the take. Vacuous nobodies with nothing of value to offer

Phyllis Hyman...pure soul. Underrated. She left us way too soon. You will love her catalogue of music I promise you. May I suggest.... Teena Marie? One of my favorites. Out on a Limb, Fire and Desire, Casanova Brown, Mr. Gaye. Ooh LA LA la...all will blow you away! Nice to see you. 🤗
I knew her and heard her live many times. Loved her very much a one of a kind voice. Listen to her sing In a sentimental mood from Sophisticated Ladies it will bless you.
Yes Sir, Phyllis Hyman Was A True Talent & Living All Alone Is Her Signature Song, Just Wish She Could Have Gotten The Spiritual Help That She Needed Before Taking Her Own Life, I Know Everybody's Struggles are Not The Same, But What a True Gift She Had, RIP🕊️🕊️🕊️ May The Lord Help Us All To Help One Another Thru It All
I met Phyllis around 1986 at the Tralfamdore Cafe in Buffalo, NY, where she was playing a show. I remember her being really tall, even though she was sitting down, and shew was wearing a huge hat--something not a lot of women were doing at the time. I was her waiter and served her dinner before her show. She was incredibly classy, but seemed really sad to me. Her performance later was stunning
Yes my man this is definitely a song that cries and if only she just knew even for a little bit just how amazing she is.Just a true gem of a singer and person who left us way too soon and your reactions are definitely my reactions, she looks so distraught but the way she delivered is just unbelievable!!! R.I.P lovely queen 💐💐
The cry in her voice is heartbreaking & this is an amazing performance! Her bio tells us that during this time in her life, she was happy & in a very loving relationship which somehow comforted me to know that. Don't forget that Phyllis Hyman was a Tony nominated Broadway actress. I did a video about her last week marking the 29th year since her transition, & included the epilogue of her biography by Jason A. Michael. Check it out if you want to know a little more about her.
I saw her perform three times in New York City over the course of her career. From the beginning, after her first hit "You Know How to Love Me" to the end, about a year before her suicide, at a jazz nightclub in the village. She was an incredible performer. I loved her shows. And her voice was incomparable. I love contraltos. She was really done dirty by Clive Davis (there's a special place in hell for him). I think the way she was treated by him, his label, may have contributed to her poor mental state, and aided in her killing herself.
Saw Phyllis Hyman at a supper club with my mom a year or so before she took her life. In person, she was extremely tall and breathtaking. I couldn't appreciate nor understand her artistry when I was a child, or why my mother loved her style. Then a few decades after her passing, I played one of her songs. Her talent hit me like a ton of bricks, and I sobbed like a baby. After living a full and complex life, I finally began to understand the depth of this kindred spirit. Can't wait for someone to do a proper biopic of her, and I am rooting for Jazmine Sullivan.
Check out As You Are by Pharoah Sanders (Phyllis Hyman is the vocalist), Betcha By Golly Wow by Norman Connors ( Phyllis Hymain is the vocalist), You Just Don't Know and The Answer is you by Phyllis Hyman
You should try to find that footage in it's entirety...she went from that performance and sat on the interviewers coach(The Night Life Hosted by David Brenner) and yes that was Billy Preston on piano...she went on to tell him that she learned to whistle from her mom. Very passionate woman...Broadway actress as well.
I just watched your Dan Vasc reaction. I thought you might like to look at Nightwish. Perhaps in particular "The Poet and the Pendulum". You might appreciate Floor Jansen's range and versatility, and also the incredible music composition. Genre: Symphonic Metal.
If You Enjoyed Phyllis Hyman, You Should React To Tina Marie & Rick James "Fire & Desire" Tina Marie Was The Very Best of "Blue Eyed Soul" She Could Hit High Notes Like No Other, May She Also RIP🕊️🕊️🕊️
Perfect symbiosis of soul and jazz. Perfectly Phyllis!!!
Thanks for the reaction. Yes that is Billy and Ricky Minor. Phyllis loved to whistle. Love and miss my friend RIP 💔
I met her in New Orleans a few months before she died. Absolutely beautiful and that voice!

You must react to You Know How To Love Me by Phyllis Hyman! It's an awesome up tempo joint!
A little trivia. She was a major singer of commercial jingles in the USA.
I miss Ms. Phyllis. Again, albums I remember from my early years. My Uncles LOVED her. I pray that she's resting, somewhere, feeling loved.
Yes, that was the legendary Billy Preston on organ!

She had a hard life. She was way before her time. She didn’t see the beauty she possessed
That is definitely Billy Preston on piano.

When you get a chance, you should do a reaction on her other songs. She has other nice songs out there. Too bad. She passed away beautiful voice.
Definitely need Jazmine Sullivan to portray her if they ever do a biopic
