Been looking forward to this style of video showing more of the process you go through to get top quality end results. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
@@slbleadworks it's a good format, I've had a few tricks of you from the last few videos and applied them at work, the building paper template is so obvious now haha 😄
Thanks Stuart for taking the time to make a more in depth video of the process. Really helpful for myself who has done the course at the LSA a few years ago but never had the opportunity to gain experience from others. Looks like you managed to remove the mortar without destroying the tray damp. Have to ask did you train as a plumber who specializes in leadwork or solely as a leadworker ? Only ask as met plumbers recently who apprantly do leadwork to as well as the guy that taught me at the LSA
No worries. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. It really helps the channel out. Yes I managed to get the mortar out ok. It just leaves a bigger joint than normal to point back in. In 27 years I’ve only been on a couple of jobs were the bricklayers haven’t installed the tray like this. No I’ve only ever done lead work. Straight from school.
Thank you. The building paper protects the underside of the lead from alkalis in the stone and concrete. It also reduces corrosive attack when laying onto plywood and oak.
Hi Stuart when setting out your wood rolls would you not put them directly on the angles? I guess it would make an angle in the drip below the roll end
@@markworthington3893 Thanks guys! We use lead on a few projects here in calif. I notice some lead splits over time. I was wondering if the oil helps prevent that too?
Excellent workmanship again Stuart. You are top of the game
Thank you so much. And thanks for watching.
Brilliant to see the in-depth videos coming. Always a pleasure to do and watch others do lead work.
Thank you. I enjoy watching others too. You can always pick up some tips.

Thank you. The only trouble is the videos end up being quite long. Did you make it all the way to the end ?. Or should I try to make them smaller ?.
@@slbleadworks I certainly dont mind the longer videos.love seeing the process now in more detail.keep up the great work
The David Attenborough of leadwork
lol 😂.
Brilliant to see a real time video, looking forward to part 2
Thank you. Hopefully Part 2 will be coming very soon.
Hooked! The level of detail and quality of workmanship is great! I only came across your channel today and, have watched three, already!
Thank you so much. I’m glad your enjoying the vids.
Could watch you graft all day, absolutely class work manship
Thank you. And thanks for commenting it helps the channel out.
Some man for one man 👌 awesome viewing as usual
Thank you
Very nice work the best by far on utube keep up with sharing your knowledge
Thank you I’ll defiantly try to keep the vids coming. And thank you for taking the time to leave a comment.
Brilliantly explained mate, it's nice to have it visually explained as apposed to merely having the manual. Great work again never disappoint 👏 👏
Thank you. I’m trying to make more videos of this style in the future.

Your a master at your job. What is exactly do you call your profession?👍
Thank you.
The profession is called a lead worker.
Enjoying your videos. Can I ask what the building paper does?
Thank you.
The building paper protects the underside of the lead from alkalis in the stone and concrete.
It also reduces corrosive attack when laying onto plywood and oak.
@@slbleadworks Ah, that makes perfect sense. Thanks for replying

You can to that but it’s easier to have them to the side on the angle if you can. But really there’s not much in it.
@@slbleadworks Thank you :)
🤘😎🤘
Thank you
Can i ask what kind of stone is that?
Is that a new build or restoration?
I’m not 100% sure but I think it’s cast stone. And this is a new build project.
What's the oil for ?
It’s just patination oil. I put it inside the welts and also under laps etc.
It stops the lead milking and staining the stonework. 😎

@@ftoftheX if the lead is splitting ,it’s probably to long ( no room for expansion) so it buckles in the sun and then relaxes , and over time 🙈spilts.
@@markworthington3893 That's good to know, makes sense..thanks!
