Laci, this was such a informative video! Your last style was the exact way my mom wore her hair as a “cracker packer” girl at Nabisco in 1946. She and my dad met there (in Detroit) and we’re married in 1947. Dad said those braids were the reason he first noticed her! ❤️ thanks for sharing today!
Laci your hair looks so healthy! Honestly, that's really due to the fact that you don't wash it so often. As an African American woman with very thick natural hair, I can't imagine washing it every day! You're lucky if I wash it every two weeks! LOL. I love how you show us how you maintain it at night and how feminine you looked each day of the style. Love your channel! :) Happy to see it growing. Keep up the vintage content!
Looking at your hair reminds me so much of my mom. She had masses of gorgeous brunette hair and set it in pincurls. It lay on her shoulders like yours does. She was born in 1925 so was an adult in the 40s and 50s. Thanks for the memory.
@@LaciFayTheVintageGirlNextDoor My dad was born in 1921 and he had thick hair and was gorgeous to the day he passed. I had thick hair but menopause has made it much thinner. I had oily skin but now have dry skin. Trying to adapt to my body changes and hormones. It's a challenge. Lots of body lotion now and less hot baths, more lukewarm. I need to slather on lotion in my early 60's and don't even want to think what comes next in aging as it's all going downhill.
@@lynnlindsay4480 at least you got a chance to have skin that’s not dry. I’m in my 30s and have had dry skin even as a child. I was shocked early into my marriage to discover my husband never wears lotions of any kind and has perfect supple skin.
Thank you for showing how to do the scarf thing!🌹 I remember growing up only washing my hair on Saturdays. Now this was back in the 50s, my mom would roll my hair and tie it up similar to what you do. When I turned 15 I started rolling my hair every night, washing it every other night simply because I was in school, and those were the days I had PE. This went on way into college. I don't know what possessed me to cut my hair short and and start blow drying, big mistake. Washing and blow drying everyday is extremely hard on your hair. I am so glad you brought back vintage styling. Returning back to my old ways, thanks to you, my hair is so much healthier! I can go 4 days without washing, I'll get there to the 7. Thank you for bringing back femininity. 💖
I dont know how many other 53 year old men are watching this but i found it quite facinating - i can't imagine so much work on waking and retiring dealing with hair as someone who barely looks in the mirror and runs his fingers through his hair if he remembers before walking out the door - i cant imagine sleeping with rollers , pins , head scarf but i have to say you do look great and have a beautiful face to go with your beautiful hair - enjoying this channel
This was the most informative vintage hair video I've ever watched! Thanks for taking the time! I love your channel -- your positive vibe has been so helpful during this pandemic!! God bless! By the way if you could do a DITL of 50's wife I'd be forever grateful!!
I’m naturally curly so I also do a protective night hair routine. I use a satin bonnet. I’m going to have to try doing pincurls on my pieces that lose shape after a couple of days. Your skin is beautiful! Would you consider sharing your skin care routine?
I love this! You’ve really helped me. I have a side shave(terrible decision )that I’m letting grow out and I’ve been doing very voluminous vintage styles to hide it. But I’ve been using heat every day, you showing how to do a wet set and make it last has cut down on my time and effort and as a new mom that really helps.
Just wanted to say, I’m an 80s kid and had the female sideburns, shaved sides when I was younger too. I saw you say you hated doing it. Don’t feel bad, lots of us have done it and had to do the grow out, you aren’t alone 😂❤
Your videos bring back memories from my childhood ~ black & white TV, dial telephone, Betty Crocker cookbook. My mom taught me how to do pin curls when I was a girl, but mostly my hair was just straight & long or in a pony tail. She had naturally wavy, gorgeous hair ~ it was red, too. I was so sad when she cut it. I never liked red lipstick, but my mom wore it all the time. One fond memory I have is the drawer where my mom stored a bunch of very cute, stylish open-toed shoes that must have been popular in the forties. I won't be going vintage, but I got some ideas about how to do scarves for my hair from your video! I enjoy your videos ~ they are such a good escape from what is going on in the world these days ~ I travel back in time...thank you!
Amazing to see how the ladies decades ago probably did their hair routine. Also I ♥️ your day Halloween outfit and ur vintage Halloween decorations as well 🎃
Do you have an original pink bathroom? I love vintage bathrooms, if you do too, I suggest the retro renovation website. They are all about saving the vintage bathrooms and have built new "vintage bathrooms" too. Love your videos!
I used to be like that til I looked up 40-50s beauty routines. Going a week without washing my hair calmed down all my dandruff. We really have to look at ingredients, store shelf stuff was not good for my hair. Now I can rock a wet set once a week with a refresher set in between.
I don't feel clean after a day 3 . I have to shower and clean my hair. I always take baths on day two but day 3 has to be shampoo., As a kid of the 60's I remember people going to the beauty shop once a week to get their hair styled and it was once a week shampoo. No way. The way I sweat and deal with post menopause I have to be clean all over. It's not an option. You will get hot in a minute over nothing but a memory or eat one ice cube you have a hot flash.
Only thing missing is dippity due and Aqua net. Love it my grandma used to do her hair similar with the wet set and scarf for sleeping and she always wore a scarf for dusting day.

Once I learned this I can now go a week or more without washing. I'm a super dry person so everyday showers were getting torturous and high maintenance. So much lotion to repair the damage. Now I'm dandruff free which is not what I thought would happen.
I find vintage hair tends to look better when it's a little greasy, so it always lasts me longer that way. I love the way you roll the back. I've been throwing curlers into my sides and front instead of pin curls. I'll have to try that out. I'm struggling to find silk hair scarves to replace my two vintage ones. The silk is just different compared to now.

Nice end of the week with braids..it looks classy! I also notice younger woman that I work with don’t wear make up. All naturally now. I feel washed out without it! Awesome vid! I always wondered how they kept their hair so nice from day to day without daily curling or always being under an iron. It was these simple little tricks that made all the difference! Just need a good set of foam curlers, a head scarf, some hair spray/setting spray and a few clips and pins and your ready to go!😉
That is a lot easier. I usually just keep spraying with water and pin curling ever night. I'll have to try this method, although my hair is much longer haha and don't feel bad, I also wash my hair only once a week due to it being colored and doing sets every night. Thank you for this! I will be watching your video over and over to get those tips cemented in my brain. Thank you again. Also, I love your Thift Haul videos and your Vintage Gadget videos. Love what you are doing...keep it up!

So much work went into this! Thanks for doing this 💕
Hi, Laci! I enjoy all of your videos. I love the hairstyles. What did ladies in the 50's do if they were 'blessed' with thin hair?
That was amazing and you hair is so adorable. Thanks honey 💋💋💋
i wish you can also share your skin care routine in your next video ❤

Congratulations! Your channel and sponsors are growing! Another great video! I don't know if I'm too late with this question but could you tell me about the Rabbit Dress day 5? Where did you get it? It's fantastic! What era is it from? Is it from a little later than you normally wear say 64 -66 ish? I would love to know more about it. Thank you!
Thanks so much!! Oh yes! The rabbit dress is so comfy! I found it at the hoarder house. I’m pretty sure it’s homemade, late 60’s or early 70’s.
I always love how your hair looks! 😍😍😍 It’s cool to see how you do your hair to make the most of your set. ❤️
