Just amazing, my mom called that her "City by the Bay" I realize that's what it's called but that city was SO special to my mom, and she always showed me pics since she worked for a company during her work time and got to travel there many times after she retired, mom took my baby sister out there a few times. WOW wish mom was still alive, I'd love to show her this aerial view. Mom would tell me most of her trips the bridge was hard to see from the fly in or out because of fog. Great day to see the bridge. Thank you. God Bless you Mom!!!
San Francisco Bay is definitely the most beautiful region in America, I visited a few times and the people are awesome. It feels you’re in Europe, very diverse and open minded people.
@@stevenhj3124 Cramer is right. San Francisco and San Franciscans are the most insular people on the planet. I grew up in the Bay Area and saw it change to become one major cesspool of group think and Liberal policies that have virtually destroyed this city. Now, if you don't subscribe to the Bay Area's already determined view of the world, you're not only not welcomed, you're singled out. Now, even people who were born in the Bay Area are leaving because they realize how it's become an utter disaster. The only hope for this place is a major reboot via an 11 point earthquake.
Well obviously the Bay Area is the only insular , siloed place in the US. I guess I’ll go for a walk in downtown Boise wearing my yarmulke and Harris/Walz t-shirt.
I worked on these United 747’s for many years. In overhaul at the Oakland Ca hangar. Also on the line at HNL. I taxied these in Honolulu back in the 90’s. Mostly the classis 747 and 747sp. It was a big airplane ✈️. Easy to taxi . These days we work on 787 Dreamliner, 777-300 aircraft. Also worked on the 737 max before it got parked and will be working on the Max very soon. More than 36 years in aviation (USAF VETERAN) and I still love airplanes like when I was a kid.
I live in San Jose, and I fly out of SFO most every time we travel. I don’t remember if I was able to see the plane that day, I doubt it sadly. This is such a cool tribute, rip queen of the skies
In 1970 I was in the Army with the 6th Army Aviation Detachment at the Presidio (near the south tower of the Golden Gate Bridge). You flew over the Presidio Army Base at 5:10 on the video. I lived in military housing at Fort Barry on the north end of the bridge. At 5:52 you flew over the small group of homes and pine trees where my wife, daughter and me lived for 18 months. Back then, Fort Barry, was a Nike Missile Base used to protect the San Francisco area from an aerial attack by the Russians and/or Chinese Air Forces. This was one of the greatest experiences in my lifetime. Thank you for sharing this video.
Unaware to most, United's first passenger flight with the 747 was the same flight way back in 1970: from San Francisco to Honolulu. They ended the service as they started it.
In 1972 I took a TWA 747 out of LAX and I remember spending a very long time on the runway. What gets me is how much more powerful the newer turbofans are.
What a great video...beautiful weather for a beautiful takeoff...have flown out of this airport many times and the view never gets old. Just love ❤️ the Queen of the Sky and hate to see her go but at least some airlines will use them for cargo. Have also seen Lufthansa still using them as passenger planes. Also, no matter how often I see the Golden Gate Bridge it takes my breath away each time. Love My City by the Bay!
I flew the SFO ICN SFO in the UA 400 many times, loved sitting upstairs. I remember the UA daily between ICN and NRT was also a 400. The only other UA route I flew in her was HNL to IAD.
Thanks Ben!!! Great video. I lived in Palo Alto for about nine months in 1972-74; but never saw the bridge. I occasionally worked at SFO and was there when the Concorde came in which was quite an experience.
Yes, I agree. I wish United and Delta would consider the 747-8i. Delta is the only U.S. airline left flying the 747-400 on just a few Asian routes from Detroit, but will be phased out soon too like United.
A good family friend of ours was a training captain on the 747 for United and he once took me to the simulators in the Denver Training Center where I flew the 747-400 out of SFO and under the Golden Gate Bridge. Coolest experience!!
I wish her last flight had been cross-country. It would have been so cool to track the flight, look up, and salute that beautiful Queen as she carried her last passenger across America!
@@anthonypisculli2121 "Parkside" is a part of S.F., not a separate city/town: it is the usually considered to be the strip of houses close to "the side of the Golden Gate Park" along Lincoln Way, an east-west street leading to the ocean, and is considered part of the Sunset District where I grew up in the 1950s and '60s. Aside from that, what a great place to have grown up in. But that cookie-cutter house at 32nd and Rivera that cost less than $10, 000 new in the 1940-50 postwar building boom is now assessed at $1.5 million.. And it's still as unchanging a house as it ever was, just with a terrible paint job now
What an absolutely fantastic video! I was tracking the flight live and was thrilled when I saw it head right by the bridge. Nice shot of that. United definitely did a great job at sending her off with pride!
Hi Ben, Is there any chance that I can get a little clip out of this to include in a special video I'm producing about the farewell? I will mention your channel indeed.
Completely forgot this was happening. I was in the school yard of the school I work at in the sunset district and thought to myself thats a weird flight path. Noticed it was a United and obviously a 747. Didnt hit me until later what I saw.
Tim Barrango i was in Disney world in fla during the last take off mission from Orlando. I didn’t realize it either. Until after seeing it and it passing. Of course that’s been some time ago. And before the constant use of cell phones (2010)

I got to go aboard one of the world's first 747. At that airport I was about six years old and it was around 1970 back then we went up a truck with stairs built on it LOL
One of my favourite flights over San Francisco been 3 times been to every continent and the other flight is going over to my anty Barbara over state of Washington the mountains thanks for the memerys

What a lovely view. And it really showed how fast airplanes move. Golden Gate is a mile crossing and it took just seconds to past it.
Climbing out of SFO. Amazing bird that 747. The iconic Golden Gate in all its glory. Thank you.
Glad you like it!
The 747 is a classic that'll be in our hearts forever
I've done that takeoff so many times, the view of the bay never gets old, miss the -400.
Me to
i think every pilot flies there on purpose

One of the best Flyby videos of Golden Gate bridge out there.
What a way to retire for a airliner who did her job successfully for many years . stunning view of san Francisco Golden gate bridge

Now that was an epic takeoff!
I only flew on a 747 once (Northwest Orient), going from SFO to Hawaii and back, in December 1981. The 747 will always be Queen of the Skies.

That's music to my ears! The sound of those Pratt & Whitney 4056 engines. Definitely a plane I miss seeing.

Flew right over my childhood home in the Marin headlands at 6:07 The memories were overwhelming !! Thank you !!
Beautiful clip, the sound of those engines makes me so nostalgic . Thank you.
Yep. Loved the powerful "turbine sound" they made!

Every time I see that view of the Golden Gate Bridge I can't help but think of James Stewart and Kim Novak In Hitchcock's "Vertigo".
This is a great video.. It is sad the see the Queen of the Skies now relegated to Cargo duty.
