Wayne is a god damn legend. I would urge all the viewers here to certainly buy his albums, but also check out the live recordings he's made with Keith Carlock and Tim Lefebvre - this may well be the most innovative and dynamic sounding trio of this millennium. Thank you for featuring a true legend and one of the most underrated guitar players of all time here. I could listen to Wayne talk for hours!
His live recordings as well as bootlegs of his concerts, I would add. There are wonderful bootlegs out there with Carlock and Lefebvre that present Wayne Krantz at his best. A true improviser and a contemporary pioneer.
I remember seeing Carlock, Krantz and Lefebvre at 55 Bar in NYC years ago, right up close, just a few feet away from them as I nursed Guinness after Guinness... I have to honestly say it was the most revolutionary musical moment I have ever witnessed. Beyond brilliant.
I can't imagine a more suitable host; Dweezil has the chops & the credibility, and always seems to ask the right kind of questions. Like others, though, each installment seems to be too short. I'd like to see these last 20 minutes or more, because the conversations don't ever seem complete, like they haven't run their natural course. I haven't seem one that I didn't enjoy
I heard Wayne's first album in 1990 and have been a fan ever since. Such a unique and rhythmic musician and composer. If you play guitar and not familiar with Wayne there is a huge hole in your listening you need to fill ASAP!
Love Wayne Krantz! Thanks for continuing to have these incredible players on Guitar Power - but PLEASE- there must be more of this stuff. Longer, unedited episodes, please.
My favorite two players! When I took a Dweezilla lesson from DZ, he recommended Krantz's book, " An Improviser's OS. " That book has been a MAJOR eye opener for me.
Only know him for a few months, since MusicRoom, but I love love love his first 2 albums. The music is perfect. Can't stop playing them. The rhythm stuff is insane. And it's so original. Always get really happy when I play those tracks.
i love these sessions, another amazing season, this is my favorite for season 2, i'm in san antonio, everybody here owns a guitar, 2 million people but no music go figure
I've been watching the series with Dweezil. Wayne Krantz (BTW, whom I'd not heard of before) is sooooo on top of his discipline it's fun to watch Dweezil struggle to keep up (playing the role of student).
But on second viewing I see where Dweezil is enjoying the challenge. It's like with all of us, the balance between the fun and satisfaction of trying to keep up with something new, and the self-defeat of "I'm not sure I'm ready for this." Ha!
Here's how cool Wayne really is: A few years ago I went to his website and bought his book "An Improviser's OS" and was totally amazed at how little I knew about improvising and the guitar's complexity. So I sat down and worked on it a lot. Then put it down. Then took it up again. Read the book several times, jumped from here to there. Slow progress. I wanted to make a video series on the book with some practical examples. I sent Wayne an e-mail and asked if it was okay to use his book in a video series and he said yes! I was thrilled and started making videos right away. As of August 2018 I'm on part 7, ready to dig deeper into modes and subgroups, really theoretical but very useful. I was at a clinic with Wayne once here in Norway and got to ask a question. What was most awesome about that clinic was that we got to watch him actually practice the guitar. He was really searching for the right notes and it wasn't like scripted beforehand or anything. That was an incredible experience to me. The second edition of the book is ready in September 2018 according to his website and I think I will buy that one as well.
Love these D'Addario and thank you. Wayne provides great insight here on the difference between studying and creating music. Awesome interviews but also wish they were a bit longer. Dweezil is a most humble Guitar God and the perfect host.
So glad I stuck with this video. 99% of people out there would not appreciate this! This is like Ornette Colman taking it to another plane. Well done Mr. Zappa! Good questions and bringing it back down to earth.
Saw Wayne at Bar 55 last week after not having seen him in about 12 years, I was blown away. I always knew he was good but as far as I can tell he’s reached a new level. My impression was that this is a man who could go toe to toe with ANY guitarist on ANY stage in the planet.
anyone know if that's an original Suhr from the late '90s he's playing? i've never seen one with that much natural wear on it. It would totally make sense of Krantz was aware of them before the rest of us
The magic of this video really starts at 4:40. This is the shit right here! I feel as though I finally found the answer to the question as to how this guy thinks. There's a 2010 version of The Goodbye Look that hit me so hard, I reached out to who I thought was the guitar player (Herrington) and he said "Wayne Krantz" and that was the first time I heard his name. This explains that and for me, puts Os and Os2 as well as the latest book into perspective in a big way. That and some visionary videos by Mitch Chmara whom I studied with for a couple of years but I digress. This video really cleared some things up in my thinking. Wayne is the GOAT! Well, one of them and there's a couple out there for sure ;)
ok i've watched 3 of these Guitar Power videos and i love'em but there needs to be, in the description below the video, more info about who these guys are and were.... more info please !! Should i know them ? Sure. Do i ? nope. So school us !
Dweezil shouldn't be so timid, shit he's playing his pops music which is highly rhythmic. Having a background in jazz improv is a huge benefit to making improv more interesting and flexible. Wonder if he can play a simple tune like Softly as in a morning sunrise?
I love Wayne’s playing but I wonder if his statement about theory not being necessary is true. It would be difficult to say for sure if you studied theory as I’m sure he did. How would one know if it was affecting your playing at some level.
Wayne blocks people on his patreon even though he's the one with a bad attitude. He regularly loses members because of his attitude. The guy has a video of him shirtless on the front page of his website. He has some serious ego issues.
3:08 .. ascending scale is g major, not c .. i know nobody should give a fuck and i dont, and wayne krantz sure won't, but its a weird glitchy thing, and dweezil zappa looks kind of awkward like he noticed.

Love how Krantz incorporates a open string in nearly every chord voicing in very creative ways.
I think Dweezil is an awesome host. He has a great interview style and I really respect his musicality.
And here, he was so interested in what Wayne was saying
@@goncalomarques2711 because Wayne is literally one of a kind
Wayne is very well spoken and articulate about the building blocks of his style.
I can't imagine a more suitable host; Dweezil has the chops & the credibility, and always seems to ask the right kind of questions.

Wayne is such a great original creative player - thanks for the interview!

i wish this was longer
I love intellectual musicians. Wayne is an example. Dweezil is another one..

mark norris hi Mark your right on about SA. I’ve Lived in SA all my life.. The early 90s were much better....

Ha, from 15-19 all I did was try to sound like Wayne Krantz and Zappa. So this is mind blowing.
Hey Wayne @8:22 'Whatever That Idea Is' ...
Please do a whole album of you solo improvising over loops....
'Wayne & Loops' I could dig that.

WK "yea, we could."
😆
Love these D'Addario and thank you. Wayne provides great insight here on the difference between studying and creating music. Awesome interviews but also wish they were a bit longer. Dweezil is a most humble Guitar God and the perfect host.
this is brilliant.
Highly recommend Wayne's book mentioned in this vid. Read ur years ago, helps to break patterns and establish true improv.
Like the way Wayne goes about making music.
So glad I stuck with this video. 99% of people out there would not appreciate this! This is like Ornette Colman taking it to another plane. Well done Mr. Zappa! Good questions and bringing it back down to earth.
Great show AGAIN Dweezil

fantastic interview -- possibly the best online for krantz
Love this series
Wow! Wayne! Zappa!
This was good advice from Wayne on breaking the grid beats
i love wayne
anyone know if that's an original Suhr from the late '90s he's playing?
i've never seen one with that much natural wear on it. It would totally make sense of Krantz was aware of them before the rest of us
Darrien Day double and checking out that rig rundown, Wayne is hilarious and so professional plus cavalier about his equipment - gotta love it

Great video.
How nice was that!
EVERY MUSICIAN SHOULD HAVE A LOOPER IF THEY NEED A CATALYST FOR CREATIVITY!!!!! (at least guitar players)
What a bright, funny, earnest cat! besides being a great player.
He's right (WK.) writing out music gives you another way to look at it, but until you do that you will never know what that experience is. .
Somebody please tell Wayne that his Web site (seems to be linked to Bands in Town) ain't workin'. Dead mojo.
I heard the theme from TV series of "Batman" at 4:15

Wayne 🤩😍🎸🐕🇺🇲
WK = The Big Kahuna.
Where can I find the full version
Fantastic video! Keep it up!
Krantz the yoda
This here shows yet again how Wayne Krantz is one of the best guitarists there is and one of the best musicians that will ever be.
Would love to see Kevin Parker!
just abit like troubardix...hahaha,ähm;cooking with water...
I'm here for the white Suhr.
Who edited this? c´mon...
Nice content! Keep it up!
yeah!!
👍👍👍👍👍
what pedal is Dweezil using in the intro?
The sustainer (neck) pickup in his guitar?
probodger is that what it is? I don't have that much knowledge I just dig that sound
Its my guess and I know Dweezil had one fitted to one of his guitars, do a search on "fernandes sustainer"
probodger alright thanks
music notation; "what it afforded you beyond your ear..."
ponder that, rock stars
😵💫

great video you think Daddario would have leant him a string cutter to use on his guitar!
Dig
Who?
Still waiting for Mac DeMarco

That is the worst sounding Suhr I've ever heard. Like it was messed up on purpose to sound broken.
