History of Saab, Top Gears Tribute to SAAB. A BMW and a Saab dropped from 8 feet, which would you rather be in? a clip from Top Gear S18E05. crash test of SAAB and BMW.
We had a Saab 9000 which was written off in Italy when a Fiat went into the back of it. Despite the Top Box being catapulted off the roof and into the next lane along with the crumpling zones, well crumpling, the only thing damaged in the boot was the video camera. Me, my Dad (who had managed to stop the car hitting the one in front), my Mum and Brother all managed to get out of the car OK with no injuries. Unfortunately the people in the Fiat (who weren't wearing seat belts) had much more serious injuries and (I think) had to be cut out. Additionally I think our Saab managed to do more damage to the Fiat than the Fiat did to our car! The rest of the holiday involved about 3, maybe four, hire cars (we had to change cars at various borders).
I've owned many cars over the years, e-type, series 1 XJ6, currently XKR-s, 3 XJS, BMW 635csi, Jensen interceptor 2, Honda Crx vtec, golf GTI MK2, Renault 5 turbo and many others, but the two cars that have really got under my skin and I wish I never sold were both SAAB's.. A 99 turbo and a 900 turbo convertible with Abbot racing upgrades. They just felt different to anything else I've ever owned..
the 4 main insurance companies quoted the OG SAAB 95 as the safest car ever (the one that started production in ‘97, and at the end of production in ‘09 it still had 5 stars). Saabs are still the only cars to survive the moose test ( not the handling one), and were notoriously overengineered so despite the 20 years difference it has a hell of a chance taking into consideration that most of the innovations in safety over that time period was in accident avoidance technology. It would preform well, there are still modern cars that have 1 or 0 stars. Even with a modern state of the art 5 star car it could do well if you define well as minimising the injuries inflicted on the occupants. The new car would of course be better, but if a Saab can hold a 5 star rating for 13 years, and the newest Saabs are 10ish years old it could get 5 stars today.
I quoting directly here, "Not good at all." And from that point, the joint venture completely fell apart.
What a bad cut! Cheers for the ending!
Good man.
Thank you
I would prefer the Saab
If you were Richard Hammond you would be alright. 😂😂😂
I was literally reading this as they said it

It wouldn't perform well against a modern car.
