Great year Danny! Thank you for all the vids! Just remember never to turn your nose up again to sizeable red mullet. Its maybe the tastiest fish out there... definately the best tartar/cheviche thingy ...
Another great video Daniel. 👍 It’s been a good year and I’ve really enjoyed your company and vids. Next time we dive together, I must do a better job of giving you content 😂
i would like it very much if u posted the footage of every one of ur hunts, even if it's unedited on another channel for example!!! anyways great video as always!!
You should plan a spearfishing video in South Dakota, USA for 2024! My son and I would love to have you in our state. Keep up the great videos! Give me a shout if you are interested!
Dear Daniel! Simply magnificent video as always! I was curious about the switching of Carbon guns to alu guns, because I have considered that myself too. I really love my old aluminium gun, but they aren’t in production anymore. Are there any alu guns you will recommend? What are you using for example? Greetings!
If I can, I will never dive without a neck weight again. I also use a heavy duty bungie loop tied with a constrictor knot on my spear butt to counterlever my 90cm aluminum rail gun. I can twist my wrist to make the loop tighter if needed, lock my gun in place when i swim with the handle near my waist by flipping it and using the tension of the bungie to sort of lock the handle with my fingers instead of awkwardly holding it upside down, and when i land a big striped bass i can let the gun go and catch the loop with my fingers where the bungie helps tire the fish out because of its stretch. The counterlever aspect alone makes me wonder why more Spearos dont use a similar setup on guns over 80cm. Thoughts on neck weights and my handy dandy spear butt loop?
I don't find the need for a neck weight unless I'm in the pool doing freedive training. If you are connecting a speargun to you in any way, shape or form I'm against it and would strongly recommend you stop the practise. It's extremely dangerous and someone in the UK has lost their life tethering their speargun to their hand.
@@DanielMann constrictor knot is on the butt, not the wrist. Rolling my wrist 1 or 2 times tightens the loop, but the tension is only locked in place by griping the gun. As soon as you let go of the handle the loop twists free. Furthermore, even if say the tuna clip gets caught on my forearm the Bungie stretches enough so I can pull my hand through at any time, so the gun is no more attached to me than it is without it. Trust me brother, the counter lever, tension clutch, and lockability during gun tuck makes this another addition I will never dive without. As far as neck weights, the ability to put 4 lbs on your neck instead of your waist has amazing benefits. Less back pain with heavy weights for thick suits, DDs are far more efficient, form improves during descents/ascents because the weight is heavier/lighter, and I barely notice it even on long days in the water. Try one out and you'll add 15%+ to your down times. Seriously.
Thanks for the great video. I hope you don't mind me asking. Which brand of speargun are you using now and why did you switch from the Orca carbon fibre?
I still have my orca spearguns. I don’t use them in the U.K. as they are too big. I had smaller carbon guns from underpressure in Greece and swapped for meandros for my everyday diving in the U.K.
Lovely vid Dan 🙏 I love my Rob Allen twin 14mm banded snapper 90 👍 Have a great 2024. A little gift for you, if you haven't done, buy BTC before it's too late! 💚
Nice recap. Hey, in one of your many past videos you mentioned a suit lube in powder form that you just whip up on the spot using a water bottle. What's the brand name of that again?
Hey Dan, I'll be back home in Cornwall late January, do you think I'd get away with my 5mm for the occasional scallop dive or should I grab a 7mm jacket and stay with 5mm pants or go 7mm all over ??
@@DanielMann Interesting, this is the sort of thing I wouldn't know not being a spear fisherman or marine biologist. I wonder why that is? Presumably because it's more isolated and "open ocean" than offshore areas of the rest of the UK. Perhaps more suited to a mini break with a side of spearfishing. If you've not been yet it's a very interesting and beautiful place. Feels very different even to Devon and Cornwall. All the best.
when you say you are pushing it with the tide... i dont have a lot of experience swimming out as far as you do... do you sort of only swim out in an ingoing tide or slack tide so you avoid being swept out to sea or is outdoing tide not really a problem?
I know that the tide will start to become stronger and stronger as time goes on so I want to avoid that so I can swim back safely. By pushing it I mean I’m staying too long even though I know I should already be swimming back jn.
