I enjoyed this video guys! I'm Rusty's drummer from Original Outworld starting back in 1997. Rusty and I put in many many hours of killer rehearsals and writing sessions. We always had fun and enjoyed what we did. I'm glad we had all the fun we did. That album from 2004-2005 we wrote was one helluva beast! Take care guys. DD
I was privileged to take in-person lessons from Rusty for a while, and he's a great guy and a great teacher. When I went in for the first lesson, he asked me to just play for a few minutes, and I played my collection of pentatonic-based stuff. When I stopped, he nearly stopped my heart when he said "It's hard to know what to teach a really good guitar player". I asked him to get me out of the pentatonic rut, and he did just that, helping me understand the fretboard and the relationship between keys and modes.
Rusty is a badass. Proud to call him one of my friends and bandmates. We played together in Revolution back in the day. We're doing a reunion show in Houston on July 24th, 2021!
It’s nice to see you both!! Rusty was absolutely killing it!! What a guitar player.. It’s really a shame that a lot of people don’t talk about him cause his playing feels very special. And did you see that speed?? WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL. That’s *incredible*!! Great video!!
That was awesome to see two great guitarists having some fun shredding. I enjoyed watching every second of that video. I haven't seen anything of Rusty before. He's a really smooth player. Thanks Herman and Rusty.
Way way back in the day I remember seeing a video of rusty cooley playing a 7 string fanned fret guitar absolutely shredding the fuck out of it. MY mind was completely blown. I'd never seen anything like it. The guitar. The amount of shredding speed and seeing it on youtube. I'll never forget it.
Holy crap!!! That was some truly insane shredding by Rusty! I've never heard of him before... he has my attention now! It looked like Herman might have been speechless in a few spots there!
Underrated? You know this video, and series overall, are highllighting the work of AAA guitarrists, right? Like this isn't underground or youtube music scene. These guys are the real deal.
Rusty Cooley is so good man. Never been the most melodic, I only like 2 handfuls of songs from his solo work, but he’s just so great. His skill level is just mind blowing. Such a great player. He’s so underrated overall in my opinion
I kept checking my headphone wires for 5 min until i notice the crackling was from the video feed 😂 Keep the awesome content coming Herman and the rest of you. Such a great inspiration, and so cool that you interact with the fans so much 🤟 ❤️ 🤘
Good to see Rusty out and about again. This guy named Marshall Harrison would be a great guy to have on your channel. He is amazing, fast and clean with a Swybred picking technique kinda like Tosin Abasi style. This dude will melt your face off.
Oh man Marshall Harrison is a monster! I remember his website back in the late 90's. His wide interval sweep arpeggio. He'd be awesome to have on one of his streams..
@@Matt-nk2tp okay then, lets do something to bring wintersun here for real ! if you are reading this herman, please go check wintersun songs, and bring Jari and Teemu to the live stream
Wow, wasn't aware of Rust Cooley being a real Shawn Lane disciple, this is sooo cool! Would be awesome to know how far he followed Shawns technique approach since it looks like he went pretty far with it. To me this is really insane and therefore incredibly awesome! And as most times, thank you very much Mr. Li for bringing all the cool content to us people out there!
Damn even the camera is just trying to look at Rusty's fingers and I can hear the camera saying "HUH?!!!" Lol . It's too fast for the camera . This was awesome
Holy shit balls man... That was friggin' insane! Did anyone else do the jaw-drop when Herman said he started playing in 92'? I was doing a poor job of copying Nuno when Herman was learning to play?
Great interview, Rusty is a great guy and teacher. Cool to see him show his own build. I was watching him cut that guitar up at his house from where my step dad and I were using his dads vehicle paint booth and had to go over and ask him wtf he was doing. He turned me on to shred by giving my a Racer X tape and a Carvin catalog. A few years later the Carvin DC727 came out and I was on board. His teaching rates are actually reasonable considering who he is, I highly recommend. His effortless understanding of theory is amazing. I bought one of his personal Dean USA RC7 guitars but just cant like the EMG707s.
I know this video is 2+ years old but it would be so cool to hear him on a DF song. Hearing him play on From So Far Away by All Shall Perish was so cool
@@goldenguti Yeah man we need to get him on this channel, don't know if herman actually knows him but one listen to any of his solo tracks should be fire enough to awake interest 🤞
Rusty Cooley is a great shredder. Too bad the dvd does not have onscreen tab. Just makes it easier. My favorite of all time still Paul Gilbert Intense Rock 1. I believe Rusty has the potential to put out an equal dvd, but it needs to have onscreen tab.
