    I had this set! Got it Christmas of ‘95, and to this day it’s still probably one of the coolest Batman sets just for the size. The elevator was like that brand new, really hard to pull up and turn. And just like you, I had the same batmobile from the animated series and had to make do. I agree with what you said about it being the biggest batcave and Batman playset. It was the only one like that ever made for any of the movies. The other ones were reused and repainted for every film also including the animated series. Great video! Thanks for making it! Brought back a lot of nostalgia. There’s nothing else on RUclips explaining this set. Keep up the good work!

    this was hands down my most desired present ever, as a kid or as an adult. my dad straight up told me he wasn't getting it for me because he couldn't find it anywhere. it was all i talked about for the entire christmas season. my brother as getting mad at me because i wouldn't shut up about it. christmas morning came and i had opened all of my presents. no bat cave but i got the batwing, assorted toys that i don't remember and the spiderman cartoon maker for PC. my dad asked me if i wanted him to go set it up on the computer. trying to put on a cheery face i agreed. we walked into the computer room and there it was. my dad had found it over a month ago and had been hiding it at work. i have never been so happy in my life. the ironic part is i ended up using the spiderman cartoon maker way more than i ever used the bat cave.

    Got this for Christmas a couple years later, in 1997 after Batman & Robin came out. My best friend already had the animated series version of the Batcave they repainted for B&R, and I wasn't impressed. My local Toys R Us still had 2-3 of these monsters taking up space on the bottom shelf of their Batman section even in '97, so I asked for that version for Christmas. If I remember right it was probably around $70-75, not sure what it originally retailed for. I vividly remember that Christmas, my sister and I slept over my Aunt and Uncle's on Christmas Eve and they brought us back home around 8 or 9 Christmas morning, surely to give my parents time to set this monstrosity of a Batcave up. I remember having the appropriate Batmobile and BatPlane (take off the wings and it was the boat) plus I used that bridge-trap thing as the parking spot for Robin's bike. Also used this playset to double as a Star Wars playset, something like Vader's Castle or Emperor's lair on Coruscant. Another cool "feature" was that the platforms were hollow and you could store your figures inside.

    Happy to see someone tackle the BF batcave. This was my favorite playset growing up and I don’t think any batcave has ever tried to be as complete. No one really makes mass production releases like this anymore and the whole Kenner line for the film was great right down to the packaging art. The design and features are interesting but I agree the size is really the most striking aspect. I do recall the elevator always being tough and yes the figures with plastic or rubber capes would not fit most things. I usually wound up using capeless Batman figures. The vehicles being able to be docked was a great way to further the design and while it’s not often discussed the idea was that if you had the batboat then you could park it alongside the bottom platform to have all three in with the playset.

    • @ToyTalkGuys
      @ToyTalkGuys  4 года назад +2

      Really appreciate the view and kind words, friend. Mass market playsets are definitely something of the past especially at this scale. It’s fun to rip on the figure and environment compatibility, but I honestly love these and I think this is the slickest looking Kenner batman line. I now feel like I should’ve mentioned the batboat, but with about 60 seconds of screen time in the film it sorta slipped my mind here! I wish there was just one tiny little chunk of molded dock somewhere near the elevator that would specifically call to it, but asking anymore of this playset would’ve been overkill.

    • @DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader
      @DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader 4 года назад

      Toy Talk Guys my pleasure! I wish I had gotten more of the line growing up but I believe I still have this set in storage. I think my favorite thing about the line may be the asweome art rendering of each figure on the box art. I never thought about docking the boat until I think seeing a box photo with it pulled alongside the set. The idea was probably to reference the cave beneath the cave aspect which is why they weren’t destroyed in the film. That’s one of many dropped or cut pieces that would have likely been in the longer darker version.

    • @ToyTalkGuys
      @ToyTalkGuys  4 года назад +1

      Absolutely! I don’t collect too many things carded, but that artwork makes me think twice. You’ve intrigued me, so I’ll have to track down some of those batboat product photos. Oh man! The longer cut of this movie is pretty nuts! Had no idea about it until way later in my adult life.

    • @DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader
      @DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader 4 года назад

      Toy Talk Guys I always saw brief snippets of extra scenes and have been trying to petition for its release since WB teased it back in 2005 for dvd. I grew up with BF and feel most don’t give it a fair shot. There’s a good movie in there and even with its issues I still enjoy it. The novelization is a great read if you haven’t picked a copy up. It goes far beyond he long version and fixes virtually every issue. WB has said recently the long cut is somewhere around 170min which is far more than anyone thought.

    This is a great review. Yes, a little more planning should have gone into this playset by Hasbro. But I think you overlooked some of the positives of this playset. Despite its flaws it is still pretty awesome! You are not limited to using it with just the figures from the Batman Forever line. It is absolutely perfect for displaying figures that range from 4-inches to 5.5-inches. It also captures the enormity of the batcave, (even though it is a fictional place).

    • @ToyTalkGuys
      @ToyTalkGuys  3 года назад +1

      Totally appreciate the view and comment, friend! You make some extremely fair points. I certainly applaud Hasbro for the effort especially considering the lack of modern playsets out there today. I’m sure there are super fans or completists that went/go nuts for this, but I feel like, for an average/above average Batman collector, there are better/more economical caves out there for display. It’s just the space dedication issue .. if the space is there though I’m sure it makes for an insane scene.

    Great review! I haven't seen anybody review this playset on youtube up until now. I didn't know much about it but seeing images online it looked very cool but could never find it on ebay.
    After seeing this review I dont think i will ever pick up this playset, and instead pick up one of the many Wayne Manner playsets Kenner made back in the day. I just hope to find one complete at a fair price someday but so far I haven't had any luck.
    Also I LOVE the Forever Batmobile. I have a decent collection of Batmobiles made by Kenner and Mattel. In terms of play value the Forever Batmobile is the second best Batmobile, with number one being the electronic Tumbler.
    I review toys on my youtube channel with ocassional wacky humor inspired by JobbyTheHong. I hope to review my Batmobiles and other Kenner batman stuff overtime. Currently Im wating for my preorder of the Hasbro Dinozords so I can review them all on the channel. I just subscribed to your channel.

      Yes! You’re the man! Thanks! You’re making the right choice by not picking this up. It commands an enormous amount of display room while not offering the same aesthetic a Wayne Manor playset offers. You’re right though, the prices are usually crazy for many of them.
      Honestly, I’ve always liked the look of the Forever Batmobile. Definitely decent play features as well. The tumbler’s amazing...no argument there.
      Always love watching Batmobile reviews! I only ever had 1 or 2 growing up which would always bleed into each different Batman line. Could not appreciate your patronage more, friend. Thanks for the view and comment!

    I remember thinking about picking this up back when it was released. I'm kind of glad I didn't. As you said, the size is impressive, but the features themselves are kind of underwhelming. As far as the figure interaction, it almost seems like it would work better with the figures from the previous lines.

    I had this, infact i held onto the larger sections the longest and used them for decoration as a teenager. But as a kid this was my favorite playset overall. If i remember correctly the Batman Returns Batmobile that i preferred (i did have the Forever version.) Fit on the floor rotator too. But a problem I'd have is Batman driving away but i forgot to reset the platform before he came back. If memory serves it doesn't fit completely if it's not facing a specific way when you drove it up.
    But the computer banks, the gigantic spires, i had the Batman Forever Batwing (I actually loved that one.) It fit really well on the slot on the back. I remember i bumped into it and was surprised it didn't fall off.

    I saw it on shelves back in the 1990s and thought ... that's just too big. And too expensive.
    Keep in mind that they also released the Wayne Manor/Batcave set again in this line! That's a much ore compact, and cheaper, playset.

      Yes! This thing ended up being 3 average/below average playsets in 1! The Wayne Manor/Batcave had it beat in both parents and kids eyes! Really appreciate the view and comment, friend!

    Thanks for this review. Everything you said would totally be a let down for me and have been thinking of shelling out for one to get it to Australia so probably owe you for saving $ and disappointment. Ironic when the Returns one was such an amazing use of space and most features worked well and were clever

      Nice! That was the original intent behind this video, so thank you for the validation. The set's a must for completists, but, as you addressed, there are better options available to different collectors when it comes to caves.

      I wish! Someone I knew was giving this playset away, so I had to grab it and do a review considering how complete it was! Can't tell you how much I appreciate the view and comment though, friend!
