    “In spite of the warnings, I worked steadily both night and day, doing outside work on the hundreds who were scattered all over.” The first Black doctor in Nova Scotia, Trinidadian-born Clement Ligoure worked tirelessly in the weeks following the Halifax Explosion (1917) as he attended to the injured - free of charge - both at his own hospital and throughout the district.
