- When a scientific accident releases a captured alien life form in the UK, the military is quickly overwhelmed, and the government is forced to create the Red Zone - a 200 square km area devoid of all human life.
This gives birth to Runners - mercenaries for hire who trespass into the RZ to complete assignments. Their work is highly illegal, and highly dangerous. Most do not come back. Lyndon is one of these Runners, an ex-soldier who works alone, accepting only the most deadly missions. He is taken deeper and deeper into the RZ as he searches for his missing girlfriend, Kate.
Red Zone is Lyndon's story.

Really liked this. It was well paced. I was engrossed from the start to the finish. The story wasn't spoon-fed to you but rather developed through visual cues and the odd flashback. Good acting helped to sell it too. The alien tech was kept simple within the realm of science fiction and therefore more readily believable. This is proof that you don't need megabucks to create a film with high production value. Hope there's more in the pipeline.
Thank you for the nice comment. Glad you liked it :)
Lots of negative comments quibbling over one thing or another. I don't care. It was fast paced and suspenseful, and at the same time easily understood. Good job.
Ex soldier? Our hero has zero military skills, walks down the centre of a road and blunders into exposed booby traps. Looks at his phone like a teenager crossing the road.
But the good news is the unisex hair salons are still running :D
Ex National Service Catering Corps, barely able to Recognise Food, wouldn’t know the difference between a 5.56 and a 7.62 if his life depended upon it.
Typical millenial
Wait up. This isn't high school musical?
but he knows to roll 6:03
wow. one of the better sci fi short films I've seen on RUclips!!! the visual effects and ships design were sick.
“They know you have the kill signal stay completely silent”
*Proceeds to sprint out in the open*
I don't understand the negative comments a bit....I thoroughly enjoyed this.
No clue what happened in that story, no setup or explanation. My best guess at the storyline is: in the alternate universe emo UK, Siri gives you missions to find splattered corpses in the “red zone” until you get one mission that blows up everything including yourself? That and those little square sticker magnets to mount stuff on the fridge, if one sticks to your skin it will turn your eyes black in this universe.
Am I gonna be the first to say what a good actor he is? Reminds me of Adrien Brody. This guy can act. Face it, he’s the reason you watched the whole thing. He’s definitely got a carrier in acting.
Toby Ihli Adrian Brody?! You obviously know him and have a crush on him.
I’ve just seen this. Adrien Brody is incredible so thank you so much, that is very kind of you.
He might ,indeed ,have a carrier -
a career, now, - I'm not so sure of.
Worth watching. Good concept. Hard to flush these things out in a short film.
Thank you
Excellent film, most enjoyable, thank you for this Chris Hyde et. al. ps. the music was very good also.
Thank you. Justine Barker did the music. She is incredible :)
hmm. interesting, but that guy looks like he could barely survive a sunday hike, nevermind a life threatening solo mission in hostile enemy territory.
He is a 14 year old kid, :) At least looks like one.
Right. Like dudes head is down more than its up, even an ameutur solider would be aware of his surroundings and did he seriously leave the weapons and gear after that kill? Geez
Can’t get over having a lithesome male hero? We’ve had women leads for years who look like models. Reverse the view.
Think:
let us women have our pleasant wet moments too. I like unbulked, likeable heroes . He looks good, sexy voice too. He’s emotionally involved. Loving that!
Back off traditionalists.
Get over yourselves.
@@canvasfaces so u like little kids?😐 Gross
Agreed
I never expect perfection in *any* video/film that I watch; I do expect a good story, and this was a good story. Thank you for this!
Nice, well worth watching. really liked the camera work !
gotta admit, despite all his drawbacks, the dude was pretty Abercrombie Fitchtastic
despite? that was drawback #1.
Loved it! Most excellent!
Thank you sir
Skinny dudes can you fast... their stamina can be underestimated. I Have seen navy seals smaller than this dude. Appearances can be deceiving. Good film!
Yeah, and I've seen Navy Porpoises smarter than him.
Seriously? Difference is seals have training...not only steps on BEEPING anti- personnel device and surprised by a sentry luckily looking the other way but twice missed hearing and seeing a hover craft in an open field while looking at his phone. Memorize the mission, put the damn phone in your bag until you reach a waypoint and dont forget to set it to silent mode.
EXACTLY David. The soldier of the future won’t be mr bulk, he’ll have mad tech skills and a lithesome ability to move and move fast!
Plus, I get the feeling clearly that this man wasn’t born to be a soldier, but was thrust in a situation where he was desperate. Who says “yes,” to 0 survival rate!
Omg, awesome hair. Sort of Adam Lambertish .
Thanks. The floppy straight hair has now gone :)
He portrayed an agent with a heart I thought he did excellent A+ acting showing that a good movie can be done with hardly any dialogue
Or plot, or continuity, or logic.
Truly! Well done
He didn't convince though.
It was odd he got instructions to find a guy in a wood, wondered around and ended up back where he started, where he shot the first guard.
Hair in his eyes, makes enough noise to make a distant dog bark, and walks down the road not paying attention to his feet. Plus, everything he wore looked brand new, his nails and hands fresh and clean. Hmm.
We thought having. Justin Bieber hair would be a good disguise. When we shoot the sequel, I will avoid manicures for at least a month before the shoot I promise :)
@@RyanSpong Hah!!
Instructed "Remain absolutely silent," then stamps, clatters, groans, and breathes loudly, while knowing he's being tracked by sound! I laughed!
Otherwise, well done!
Well done, excellent flick, 5+*
Furness Abbey!, thought it looked familiar, it has been years since I left Barrow, a whole Atlantic between us now. Great location, this takes me back.
Excellent, girls and boys... That was amazing... I Love your work
How come nobody ever grows any stubble in these survival type movies.??? This guy stays perfectly shaven for days. I have more beard than him by the time I get home from work each day...
budget. its a lot harder to match stubble in multiple days of shooting. You're either paying somebody to install a fake beard every morning or literally paying a crew to wait for dude's hair to grow.
Because he's like 14.
Good short film....glad to have seen it.
Amazingly good. Acting, visuals, and storyline were excellent.
Loved it. Excellent work
Cool movie!! enjoyed it!
Awesome movie, awesome directing and awesome actor. Awesome all around.
Excellent!
I am a post-apocalyptic nerd of sorts, but usually drawn towards human vs. human, post nuclear warfare, personal survival stories, etc. types of Post Apoc. films.
This piece has completely changed my (what I now see as narrowmindedness) way of exploring.
I absolutely Loved the organic interactions with the guiding voice and Landon. It was beyond believable and realistic for me and kept me in a still, enthralled and attentive position throughput the 20+ minutes.
I was, however, a bit confused & saddened @ the end. Did Landon Die? Was the signal good for just one "kill-shot." Please forgive my Naivety, I am no film expert, but this story and Landon's character, have so much potential. I would Love to see more! Thank You for such a Great film!
I REALLY ENJOYED THIS SHORT AND WOULD LIKE TO THINK ITS PART OF A SERIES THAT GIVES MORE DETAILS WELL DONE FOR SUCH A SMALL GROUP OF PEOPLE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING MORE FROM SUCH BIG TALENT GROWING STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY
"Please contact our company, NOMAN'S LAND MAINTENANCE, If you have a zone or region cleared of human population by disease, aliens, monsters, or zombies! We guarantee all lawns mowed, livestock tended, cars washed, streets cleaned, fields harrowed, roads edged. All by our army of invisible ninja drones!" . . . Anyhow, a good little movie. Well acted.
Can't believe how long it's been since we shot this! Let's take another trip out to the Lake District.
Amazing location! Perfect for this film!
You did a great job, Ryan.
Really enjoyed that, kept my attention all through, suspenseful & good shots.
Mmmm, Starling has a rather sexy voice too. haha! :)
Good stuff
.....................................................................Amazing...........................................................................
Interesting movie, good story.
The story is a good one, but the runner... *smh* You coulda done it a little better.
When he killed the sentry/guard, he should've taken the guard's rifle & any extra ammo he had. Unless the "alien technology" can infect machines too, there was no reason _not_ to take it. On a mission like that, a pistol is not an ideal primary defense weapon. Especially when you consider that there may be more than one guard in the vicinity.
When he exited the culvert before he snuck up on the guard, Lyndon didn't look around for other enemies that might've been nearby. He showed a general lack of caution throughout the mission...not wise for a mission with such a low survivability rate.
Didn't he have any food with him? He would not need to carry very much, just a few protein bars would've sufficed. And water, unless it was already in his bag. Speaking of that, why a messenger bag? A backpack would be much more sensible on a mission like that.
I'm a " Short Movie " Freak," but,, i Only Watch the Good Ones. That is,,, the Good Short Movie's. And Yes i watched this one. ...
"thank you for sharing & May Our Creator Bless You & Fam."
Thought his bad hair was from not being able to take care of it on the run...😳
Not to mention the dude spends time each morning shaving for that baby-smooth chin
brilliant
200 kg into a dead zone and the grass is neatly cut.
@Saxxony Ger in England?
The Beatnik Hippy Hairdo is what REALLY lead to his demise.
Undeniable!
LOL
Interesting video and story.

Worth watching 👏👏👏
Great short very entertaining!
Just a note for everyone in the comment section using the acronym I.E.D. (Improvised Explosive Device), it obviously was a manufactured explosive device although it appeared to be more of a electronic weapon than explosive device I believe a more accurate term would be landmine.
The black eyes a pretty cool. Other than that really dumb. This fella must be the most tactically unsound person ever; how has he made it this far?
I tried to get over the stupid shoulder bag he keeps slinging over ONE shoulder AND then he leaves behind an automatic weapon! I'm done here
ty for the upload well done
surprising and quite entertaining
Very nice movie
Half expecting him to lose a foot on that I.E.D
What part of remain absolutely silent is hard to understand?
That was great, I'd love to see this made into a series
um. he died.
Thank you! Shall we make it happen?
@@RyanSpong definitely!
It's raining. Hard. Why wouldn't you zip up your jacket?
Added to my favorites
That was awesome
WOW!
awesome
well better than most and, not a waste of anyones time!
Shouldn't the ai on the phone tell him the death count and survival chance BEFORE he accepts or declines the job? I can imagine a less experienced runner pressing accept and going all HELL NO after hearing the death count.
Trees and bushes are there for a reason if you don't want to be seen. His field craft is zero.
So, 68 days after first coming into existence, a 'Level 9 Runner' is apparently a thing. I assume that he has done some serious grinding to level up so fast. Next, WHY exactly are Runners illegal? Is it because they are breaking UK firearms laws? Trespassing? Contravening WHS? I must also presume that this child's military service was in an office somewhere, as anyone stupid enough to step on so obvious a mine probably deserves it. Maybe he could afford better equipment if he didn't spend so much on hair product and beauty treatments.
Zero skills ,deadman walking ☠️
great
This guy has physique du rôle, good mimic expressions, good recitation capabilities, good voice. If he will continue with actor playing career i foresee we will hear very interesting news from him. 😀😎
You will find bio and filmograohy of Ryan Spong on IMDB.
Hey guys! It’s emo-Spencer Gifts/Hot Topic mall dude meets terminator!
No soldier is going to carry equipment in a loose single-shoulder strap man purse that flops all around when you run and slides off all the time, especially when you bend down (like his does when he inspects the the body of the dude he shoots).
Also, why does he have a coiled cable USB reading lamp stuck in his ear bulb-first?
I thought the Red Zone was for loading and unloading. No parking allowed in the Red Zone.
I guess I heard wrong.
Interesting but tedious.
There was no plot setup-
just minor development.
This short film did however
keep and hold my attention.
* * * Stars out of 4.
At 5:02, Piss poor anti-personnel mine...at the very least, the least, have taken off his foot...
How did the XO's know that he had the kill signal?
Would have preferred a detailed prologue to set the scene, but hey, beautifully done regardless.
Yes, agreed
Good film. Very well done! Thanks Satchel Films!
this was a really very interesting film kept my attention throughout. The fitness even possibly weakness and the main character fell into the plot for I felt that pretty much humans at this point in the war where supplies would become Limited they would pretty well be emaciated and he would be working like this just trying to get credits for food and because everything has to be done by foot there wouldn't be any excessive fat on people doing this kind of work they'd be very lean so the actor is perfect for this roll. I really like the way the computerisation you weren't sure if it was a real person giving in the assignments or an AI and it seem like it was an AI and that was the hard part that it cared about him but knew it shouldn't because that would hurt its algorithms because care and concern would cause problems in its Matrix they're not supposed to care they are to be cold hard logic isn't that why we're creating them so that emotions won't be involved in the consideration of a job done isn't that what we want and then unfortunately that's what she could only give him and she knew it it's not even a she it's just a computer given a voice that is even more confusing they were wrong to give computers a humanized voice it just confuses the human mind we think it's human , I felt awful that he was going back constantly to that house looking for his wife. By now she was probably gone if she had made it there she would have left a note for him. Pretty cool I think this could have been a series could have been a much more filled out pilot for a series didn't take too many special effects wasn't too bad at first I wasn't sure whether he was a real person or robot because I couldn't tell what the injury was to his arm whether he'd been tagged or you were looking at robotics in his arm as I'm looking at it on my cell phone I don't have television or internet at my home. So otherwise pretty great movie colortones were really interesting part of a dreary world War causes that color is leached out of the world because it's covered with dust debris and Ash good acting good storyline. Worth the time to watch
He "undertakes missions that are illegal." Uhh, is that illegal under human or XO law?
With the many videos I've watched about post apacolyptic content, action shorts, etc, a high majority of them have situations where given the opportunity to upgrade weapons, i.e. when an opponent with a superior weapon to the protagonist is dispatched, the better weapon is left behind. It makes no sense to me that obtaining a better weapon that augments the one they have, it is left behind. In a S.H.T.F, Grid down, W.R.OL. or ant other survival event I would think that leaving it behind is a major mistake...
Old dude kinda looks like Glenn Howerton from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"
That’s not the first time I’ve heard this. Now, I have contained my rage for as long as possible, but I shall unleash my fury upon you like the crashing of a thousand waves! Begone, vile man! Begone from me!
Definitely not ex-military. If the walkie talkie could bring down the aircraft why did he need to go to the radio antennas? Did he trigger some kind of nuclear response at the end? He accepted the contract to find his gf, got that but...
I always read the comments now and will watch it or not because of them ,,but please put spoiler alert when you talk about the ending..Thank You
Loved it. But no camouflage??? And why didn't he take the rifle after killing the "thing person"???? And would it not have made sense to disguise himself in thing person's uniform???
Enhanced Human will not do!
What the hell happened at the end? He appeared to have no military/survival experience.
@@PD-bg2zj after all those tries to find wife, he was ready to die.
This guy is a hunter. Lol no more like a kid where he should not be
Wow. What talent The Lord God has given you.
Stepping on a land mine usually has the immediate effect of limb removal. Must be different kind huh?
He got implanted by some chip, which he removed with great difficulty. The other guy in soldier outfit had it on his arm.

Meh...can take it or leave it... Thought the buildup was a bit much for an ending that seemed to just fizzle... Being former military, I can't complain because some have no idea/clue about it... BUT...😁... The tiny script in the beginning read 30km as in the description it reads 200 square km for the red zone?!?... Had to enlarge because I despise missing any part of a film to give accurate commentary... To that end, hope your future shorts have improved. Good luck!
Good video. Too shaky in places and the music was too loud to hear the computer voice. All in all, great job.
Find the Strelok.
ไอ้โง่ทำไงมึงไมเอาปืนมันวะไอ้ควาย🖕😒

I mean all good, great work but it lacks common sence...Like how he was all wet at the end even tho it wasnt much of a road or how we was walking on the road as if he was in no danger or how he fell asleep. Esp when he killed the enemy soldier, it was such a drawback...a pistol holder doesn't make so much noise if carefully removed. How didnt the soldier hit him with full auto. Why didn't he take his gun?. If he only takes special missions why does he only have a pistol? If its that dangerous it would have a decent pay. Just...0 common sence he keep looking at his phone like a 6y old playing games on it. Just dumb shit
The film was mostly good. A little more back ground would have been nice. You should have hired someone who knows weapons. Your hero was carrying a Sig Sauer probably 9mm. That weapon was never made to be carried in a cocked position. It has no safety for that type of carry. The weapon he is carrying is a single/double action gun. You leave it decocked and when you need you simply aim and pull the trigger. The weapon will fire and the gun will be cocked for the next shot.
The manual for SIG P220 and onwards DOES state operating as single action is within the design parameters. This will potentially improve accuracy, however, dropping a cocked weapon is never a really good thing, why most operatives will use the double action. The good old "Handguns were designed to shoot yourself in the foot" applies ! (-;
Morten Kristoffersen I did a stupid thing, I stopped drinking leaded coffee last Sunday. I think the problem is you can cock the weapon for the first shot. I know there is not a provision to carry it cocked. I managed to get a Sig 230 and I love it. Great weapon but it's heavy. That's why they make so many models, we are all so hard to please. Ha!!
rickd248 (-;
-How about trying a Glock ? They are lighter, but of course, it´s not a SIG metal item, but lightweight polymer. Perhaps one of each ?? (-;
Morten Kristoffersen I wish to start over again if that is alright with you. I've learned a very valuable lesson, don't speak if you don't know what you're speaking about. I was completely wrong about the 220 and you are right. No excuses here, I let my ego get in the way and I blew it. I'm sorry. I looked up the 220 thinking it was another model and that's when the light came on. When you are wrong the only proper thing to do is admit it which I am doing now. I am very sorry I argued with you. Please, forgive me if you can.
rickd248 Rick, please, I did not wish to insult you, and I don´t think you made any mistakes ! You are completely right, I just wanted to mention that some users may carry it in the cocked position, but it is certainly not the right thing to do. And getting a SIG is the sensible thing for connoiseurs of quality, but for everyday carrying a Glock is probably more comfortable.
There is no argument, we are on the same side ! Apologies if I was being unclear-and you do know your weapons better than most non-servicemen!
O c'mon ! If u have a pistol and you kill an enemy who has a machine gun..whats the first thing you do ? To many things dont make sense in this
He's a runner.. not a fighter.
He is handsome, who is he?

Well, I liked this film because it's romantic.
In my opinion the film was well done and could have been very satisfying but the ending left much to be desired.
