200! 👏Dude go march! Had a buddy I taught with go with Ciny Tradition last season. It was crazy seeing my 30 something year old colleague drumming with them. IF I had known DCA was a thing I probably would have done that before starting my family. I didn't have much to do 21-27
Hi guys, Great episode, thank you. It was really good to hear all your stories and experiences in the drum corps world 😊. Cainan, I was the Drum Major for the Green Lancers from Warrington in 83, 84, 85. I am sure you know a bunch of the people I marched with from High Brass, Kidsgrove etc. I aged out with Valley Sound 88 playing Timpani. My top story is meeting a beautiful girl from the colour guard on my first winter camp with the Lancers early in 83. We are still married today and have 2 grown children.
Congratulations on # 200! I think we parade marched against East Union in the 70's (Merced Marching 100). I was a Theatre Producer/Director/Costumer for 35 years in So. Cal (Riverside). Moved to Central Texas in 2017 and still play in the Community Wind Ensemble (bass clarinet). Marched with the Blue Devils in a summer parade in Merced in 1975. They were 2 blocks behind us and loud. Parades lessened and drum corps grew. Great to see the evolution. Enjoy all the videos and back stories. My husband marched in the Santa Ana Winds one summer in either 76/77 on tuba. Jen has been great answering my questions. It was a challenge making my theatre budgets...can't imagine families paying $5-$6K for drum corp coming out of the pandemic and into multiple years of inflation. Hoping that as we pull out of inflation, the arts of all types will flourish again! The arts can teach so many values and learning lessons to last a lifetime. Our youth NEED and DESERVE that foundation.
I remember back in the 1980s that there were a number of years where there was no show that featured all top 12 or top 25 corps. In 1988 this was the case for sure. But I think a number of years in the 80s had no BIG regional with everyone. Regionals were more split in those days. You had Drums Along The Rockies, DCI North, DCI South, DCI Midwest, DCI Canada, and DCI East. You also had DCM, DCE, and DCW shows. Obviously it was a larger activity then but probably not as sophisticated as it is today, and the costs today are unreal. You are also very right about how the old model no longer works today due to schools. It would be nice if DCI worked to get a DCI Canada show again. It can be a regional but it does not have to be one that involves all the corps. Perhaps have DCI Canada the weekend you have DCI Southeast. This way some of the corps venture northeast after San Antonio which can change the show lineup some. Other corps venture over to Atlanta. We need more kids from Canada to see and want to experience DCI. Good stuff today. Thanks for mentioning Fred Morris. A truly great guy who loved drum corps.
I think the (physical) media is super important. DVDs are the only reason I have some of my WGI/BOA finals performances as a student. Thank God I did the leg work and ripped those off the DVD to save as a file. DVDs are the only reason I have Webb-era Avon HS shows for band and drumline. Priceless to me.

Boston Crusaders will be traveling out to California which has to be very expensive but they are fortunate to have the funding to do this.
I am a BAC alum ('66 and '67) living on the west coast now. I cannot wait for this opportunity to see them live.
