Nobody expected show accuracy back in the 80's, but it's kinda crazy how 40 years later we're still chasing show accurate G1 figures while Prime, Animated and other TF shows all nail the toys right out of the gate.
Unfortunately the character designer / lead artist Derrick J Wyatt has passed away already He put a lot of thought into everything he did for this show only to have it cancelled after season 3 On twitter he continued to sketch characters (granted some shared body “molds” in hopes of getting more in Botcon) and even made sure to correct some mistakes in the show’s almanacs by helping out in the “complete allspark almanac” as well as continued to expand the lore in his own thoughts/tweets/Botcon stories While we did get a reading for season 4’s opening 3 parter it is a shame we will never see Devastator, Sari’s Secret, the rest of the dinobots, etc. Hopefully Hasbro and Legacy can make toys true to the Animated designs like they did with some of their other characters (like G1). As much as I like prowl it almost feels like a slap in the face to not properly have him in his Animated form.
Tell me about it, out of all the Megatron’s, Animated made him a more serious threat and the fact he didn’t let Starscream return to the Decepticons unlike his other varients made him unique
What I like about Animated is that Optimus isn't actually the Autobot leader, only a leader of his small group and Megatron not bothering to remember Optimus' name until the finale
The one thing I like about the animated designs is that even though they are more cartoony, than the other guys they do have style and presence as well as look like plausible vehicles.
This is a massive burst of nostalgia for me, I remember getting a 2 pack of these guys back when the show came out! Wish they had a 4th season. Mostly because… “WAZZZZZPINATOR HAZZZZ PLANZZZ!”
Sadly the guy who designed both the toy designs and models for the show Derrick J Wyatt passed away not too long ago , so we'll never have something like those designs again

Fun fact: There is an official Anime Opening version of Transformers Animated called “Transformers Evo.”, it was created by “Jam Project”, the same ones that did both One Punch Man openings, and they did a special songs deticatee to the Decepticons called “Praised be to Decepticon”, but it was never heard of in the Japanese version of the cartoon

You should review Animated Shockwave. I love his gimmick of transforming into a fake Autobot spy, and the mass shifting they managed between "short, stocky Autobot" and "creepily tall, lanky Decepticon" was pretty impressive.
I have this Megatron still boxed with all accessories and even the Argos catalogue number on the top from when I purchased It back in the day. It was stored away for years but in the house now for a while and every now and then I can't resist pressing the 'try me' and hear the menacing evil laugh and dialogue.
I honestly wish Hasbro also made a Leader Class figure of Animated Megatron's Cybertron form; that design just looks really cool to me and I love the alien-like aspect of it. It's a streamlined, stylized mix between G1 and Bayverse Megatron.
Legacy needs to improve Animated Soundwave as he was perfect in the show, but the toy line did him dirty (he was as tall as Bulkhead in the show and he was a leader class, but they made Soundwave a deluxe)…
Funny Story. I was at a TF con in a panel with David Kaye and he told a story about when he'd auditioned for Animated. When he got the call to do a voice, he asked which part he'd gotten, assuming he already knew, when the woman who called told him they wanted him to voice Optimus Prime. And he was like, are you sure? She replied, yes I'm sure, why? I'm guessing you don't know my history with transformers, He replied. (not exact quotes) Animated Megaron is one of the best Megatron designs to date IMHO.
Considering how they did Animated Prowl in Legacy, minus the head, a Legacy Leader Class Animated Megatron, Cybertronian or Earth Mode, would be amazing.
"The Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of..." At 3:12, their enemies' emblem is there, so PrimevsPrime completed the phrase... Think about it. 🤔
Some of my friends (were G1 fans) dislike these animated figures (and show)... To me at 1st, I didn't fancy them till I looked at those figures at most shops, I find it unique and beautiful, grew in love with them.... Especially Megatron, love not only his unique body, also his double rotor helicopter form.. I really dig his double rotor swords as well... I managed to grab that Megatron but unfortunately Optimus Prime were all sold out.. later while I scout around some Hobby Shops, I found the Takara Wingblade Optimus Prime, abit pricey but I managed to grab it, this is one of my most favourite OP figure....
They really need to just reissue Animated! The weapon/accessory integration was fantastic but if you lose that part (specifically on Megatron) then the vehicle mode ends up looking incomplete. Im currently learning to 3D scan so I can make 3D printable replacement accessories for the animated figures starting with Megatrons blades.
I have that Megatron and he’s a great toy. My primary concern about these older figures is the elbows moving inwards and his wings kind of get in the way of his fusion cannon. With Studio Series expected to expand further to shows in the future, SS is the perfect place for Hasbro to remake these original toys with the modern articulation of today and still have their Derrick J. Wyatt style 🤞🏻

By far one of MY personal favorite scenes from ANIMATED was when sparkless Starscream kept dying and continued to get tossed off the cliff while Megatron made his speech to the remaining Decepticons across the stars XD
I love the size of both Optimus and Megatron as Megatron being taller than Optimus makes sense as the Optimus in animated is much younger and not an adult warrior while Megatron is more of an adult much older than Optimus so it makes sense to Make the toy of Optimus shorter and Megatron taller

Epic double review PrimeVsPrime!!!! Transformers Animated remains one of my favorite cartoon series and lines of Transformers action figures. I have always embraced the idea of Megatron being taller then Optimus Prime, since it makes them look like David and Goliath when facing each other. :D I hope one day we will get a new modern Animated Optimus Prime action figure that transforms into the entire hook and ladder fire truck he has in the series, and not just the front cab section. Keep on being amazing.
I remember having Animated Megatron toy. I found him at my local toy store at the late 2010 for a cheap prize. Normally a leader class like Megatron in my country would have cost like 700kr. But I got him for 500kr which was a very nice deal. Sadly, I gave him away to a friend.

@Chris Maturino the appeal is what better vehicle for the Decepticon Leader; a living weapon, to turn into than the biggest weapon of all? A big ass tank. I won't deny that Jet Megatron is also cool, but the Tank is definitely his modern alt mode now

HOLY SHIT i didnt even know about Megs landing gear, legit hes the only toy ive gotten since i was 10 that makes me ALWAYS go "Holy Shit I DIDNT KNOW HE DID *THAT*" Like even yesterday I just learned the fusion cannon can rotate!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen the leader megatron presented this well. Omg I think I need it. And omg if the new movie trilogy is gonna pull out a new megatron please take something from this (like just the alt mode would be life changing)
Both releases are spectacular and still to this day up on the TF shelf in the display room. Never understood a lot of the griping about Megatron either other than his shoulders couldn't really articulate outwards. Other than that it was a fun toy with an amazing design, and presence and like all three Leaders had amazing lights and sounds. Still get a kick out hearing maniacal laughter from the toy. Space being a serious consideration I have to store Prime's weapons/extra bits in a storage bin. For future reviews Bulkhead, and Ultra Magnus are also very good at the LC price point.
I remembered as a kid I loved Animated and owned a roll out Optimus. But I can't wait for a release of Animated Optimus next year and Megatron if we're lucky 😢❤️
i still have my megatron that a igot for christmas the only thing missing is one of the propelers, sound still works perfect, it was my first transformer
Haven't seen it mentioned here before, but I saw it in some old review. Megatron's Fusion cannon can be removed from the connection piece; the review used brute force, but the screwhole suffices. The 'extra' landing gear works well then, and there is no gap to see Megatron's face.
That reminds me. I still need to unbox my Shadow Blade Megatron. I got him from a collector's shop a few months back through a trade. He doesn't make sounds though so He hasn't been opened so I'm not sure if his electronic gimmick is still function after all these years.
alright man I have to say this before I forget, if you want a human figure that scales decently with most transformers studio series figures whether for display or comparisons I highly recommend getting some of the Mega Construx COD minifigures, they come with weapons and stuff and look like they came out of the Bayverse. I use a couple in comparison with my studio series figures. one example is one of the figures is almost perfect size to fit on ss Arcee bike mode
Transformers Animated has always been a big talking point among the boomers. you really need to watch the whole cartoon. especially that episode when Blur makes his mysterious appearance as a nod to Speed Racer / stunticons.. you can also review ultra magnus

Omg I've had the black and purple version of that Megatron since 2008 and I never realized there was landing gear!! Also, I always hated that I missed out on the grey and red so if you'd ever consider a trade, mine is 100% complete, with missile....just saying😂😂

Optimus Prime’s alt mode is a futuristic four-wheeler truck or it can be an eight-wheeler fire truck.

alright man I have to say this before I forget, if you want a human figure that scales decently with most transformers studio series figures whether for display or comparisons I highly recommend getting some of the Mega Construx COD minifigures, they come with weapons and stuff and look like they came out of the Bayverse. I use a couple in comparison with my studio series figures. one example is one of the figures is almost perfect size to fit on ss Arcee bike mode
One of the best Optimus & Megatron figure ever. Too bad voyager class Optimus didn't have a cool Axe like his SHowdown deluxe class version.
Megatron really does look like he has a giant handlebar mustache though, doesnt he.
Transformers Animated has always been a big talking point among the boomers. you really need to watch the whole cartoon. especially that episode when Blur makes his mysterious appearance as a nod to Speed Racer / stunticons.. you can also review ultra magnus
I really missed out on some good figures back in 2008, id only ask my parents for the live action movie toyas back in 2008 because i had never seen transformers animated, now im regretting that
It would've been nice if we got the retractable battle mask for the Bayverse Optimus Prime figures.
To be fair, I always preferred the deluxe Optimus axe, it looks way better, especially paired with this Optimus.

Hey primevsprime sense Derrick J Wyatt passed away I watch Transformers Animated in memory of him, I even made cardboard cutouts of the tfa characters from the series a few years back.

Even if Legacy Prime isn't super faithful, it's definitely gonna have better posability. And that's what matters to me.
Maybe try reviewing the characters by their first appearance in the show. That could add a little somethin'

Omg I've had the black and purple version of that Megatron since 2008 and I never realized there was landing gear!! Also, I always hated that I missed out on the grey and red so if you'd ever consider a trade, mine is 100% complete, with missile....just saying😂😂
