Another way the movie gives the finger to the original: At 3:47, Ilya just looks at Suresh’s body sadly and that’s it. The original established that dying while drifting is an incredibly traumatic event for the survivor. Since they’re synched, they experience the pain and terror of death without actually dying. It was a big deal in the original, but it’s just brushed off here.
To further emphasize your point on just how horrifying of an experience death is during the drift, here are Raleigh's thoughts about Yancy being ripped out of the conn pod. These two passages are directly from the novelization of the film, and are written by the same people who wrote the 2013 movie. ________________________ Dawn was breaking. Raleigh had never been cold like this. He moved Gipsy Danger step by step. He could hear random snatches of incoming comm traffic, morning news radio out of Anchorage, amplified sounds of surf and wind from the shore just ahead. Another step. Yancy was gone. He could not feel Yancy. Gipsy Danger stepped onto dry land. Someone somewhere was shouting for recovery teams. Closer by he heard voices, too; chatter over Saltchuck’s radio. The boat had survived. Gipsy Danger stumbled on the shoreline. Raleigh bent, and Gipsy Danger bent, within sight of the Anchorage skyline. He saw two figures, an old man and a boy, gaping at his approach. Sensors picked up the beep of a metal detector. Raleigh had nothing left. He couldn’t feel his arm because it had been cut off. No, that was Gipsy Danger’s arm. The Jaeger’s joints squealed and began to freeze up from loss of lubricant through the holes Knifehead had torn in it. Its liquid-circuit neural architecture was misfiring like crazy. Raleigh’s head hurt and he also couldn’t really feel parts of his mind. Something was burning on his skin but if he looked down at it he would lose control of Gipsy Danger and the Jaeger would fall on the old man and the boy. He couldn’t stand upright again. Gipsy Danger dropped to its knees and fell forward. Raleigh barely got his arm up and out to stop from going face first into the beach. The Jaeger’s hand was ten feet deep in the frozen sand. Snow blew across the beach, settling in the scalloped patterns carved by the winter wind. Gipsy Danger’s sensors picked up the beep of the metal detector again, faster. Shut up, he thought. Raleigh disengaged from the motion rig and blacked out for a moment. When he knew where he was again, he was standing on the sand and could hear the sound of approaching helicopters. He looked up. How had he gotten out onto the beach? Climbed out. He realized that he’d climbed out through the shattered cranial viewport, climbed out the same hole Yancy had disappeared through. Cold stung his skin, blood was slick under his suit. The old man with his metal detector caught Raleigh as he started to fall and shouted something at the boy, who ran away down the beach. Raleigh stared up into the sky. There was blood in Raleigh’s eyes and a hole the shape of his brother in his soul. “Yancy?” he said. His drivesuit was shredded. It was cold. The blood in his eyes felt cold. He blacked out again. **After being given condolences about Yancy's death by Herc Hansen** Raleigh nodded. He felt awkward and embarrassed, the way he always did when people offered sincere sympathy about Yancy. What were you supposed to say? Thanks? Yeah, it sucks? Yeah, I’ll never be the same because I felt my brother die inside my brain at the same time as I watched that goddamn monster tear him out of the head of our Jaeger? How’s that for symbolism, Jack? The Jaegers weren’t running up the Kaijus backs and doing back flips off of them or willingly jumping through buildings.....this movie just treats the Jaegers like Power Rangers Robots......the reason people like the Jaegers in the first movie so much is because you feel the weight in everything they do. You feel it when they walk, run or fight.......what people dont like it removing that from this movie and replacing it with Power Ranger Robots
@@TheFallofTheEleventh welp, point taken HAHAHAHA that jumping through buildings got me. That scene where Bravo uses buildings to jump suddenly hit me. I feel bad only realizing right now what people meant with the Jaegers feeling extremely lightweight. They do feel a bit light for what they are.
they really shouldve played more with the idea of the jaegers being damaged over time during fights instead of getting instantly destroyed on the first hit, it makes them look less like massive weapons and more like helpless toys getting shredded.
Horizon brave is arguably my favorite next to cyote tango and crusher atlas in the Netflix show. But honestly it's just a fun time watching these movies.
If you watch this movie after the first one, it's very underwhelming. If you watch it after watching 2014 Godzilla, or 2018 Godzilla, it's brilliant. You think " wow...they actually show the monsters for more than 3-7 seconds! master piece!

Oh my god, I just now realized what the point of the mega kaiju standing in front of Newton was; In the first movie, Newt said he always wanted to see a kaiju up close. So, the precursors, as a thank you to Newton decided to give him a chance to see a kaiju up close before the mega kaiju caused the extinction event. That's a real nice nod to the first movie I have to admit
For everyone trying to defend how fast these Trashformers jaegers move, it's 10 years after the end of the first movie. For reference Cherno Alpha was 10 years old by the time of that film and it was relatively the same speed as the other jaegers showing they were around the limits of the jaegers by then. With your logic the cars today would be going twice as fast at cars made 10 years ago.
They can be twice speed like 10 years ago but the cars need to be 1100-1300kg to be fast. But these machenes are 10000 tone so fucking impossible to do back flip. Fucking unrealistic. And also in this this film there is no shadow. Thats why its look crappy or like some game scene
As garbage as this movie was, the kaiju designs were great imo. That and I love the concept of a “Mega Kaiju” that’s near unclassfiable, it’s in a league of its own.
I mean you can't lie the movie is not the worst the robots are from different eras and I know their are fans of this movie and I respect you because I'm also a fan of this film.
The main problem i saw on this movie were the perspectives and weight sensation, the first movie did that pretty well, most of the time you had first person perspectives, like when you can see below Gipsy in the first movie, and every blow was so heavy that the camera would shake every time, and the sound design helped in shaping and giving the viewer that sensation of heavyness, here in uprising the too far away perspectives made the jaegers look like you were playing with toys, they were tall, even in the concept art, but not in all the camera shots, only a few close up shots can be seen through the movie, and the movements of the jaegers lack the feeling of heavyness, that's why i always felt that whey weren't doing enough damage to the Kaiju, when the movie shows the Kaijus feeling pain after a punch or sword cut.
Well, they kept forgetting about the super-powerful cannon in the first one too. Get shoved around by the turtle-gorilla, punch it ineffectually for five minutes.....then shoot it to death with the cannon in about ten seconds.
@@Bestroyer348 Even so....you'd think the best time to use it before the enemy starts twisting you into a pretzel. Being able to attack at long range is kind of the selling point of a gun. :-) Then again, the movie also had the bit with the insta-kill sword, so I just assume the pilots are really forgetful.
@@Fmb4uok? just because it looks like toys doesn’t mean that it looks terrible, and I didn’t see anyone banging on Godzilla for doing a gravity defying dropkick. The less realistic feel allows for more creativity and interesting fighting styles for the Yeagers. @@Blizzardholocron No no, he has a point. The pre-establish fight scene from the first movie had weight to it, in the new sequel it throws away that premise entirely. Now if this movie was it's own thing no one would really care it'd just be another power ranger movie, but the fact it's a sequel to Pacific Rim, and it throws away all the establish mechanics of that universe is the problem. . .
The others Jaegers received tragically little screen time, IMO. They were one hit wonders, getting brushed aside for a Jaeger that already had one movie and most of the screen time here
I don’t know why you’re being sarcastic and making it seem like it’s a bad scene, it’s really bad ass, and the animation is top-tier, even if it isn’t realistic.
literally the first scene of the first movie is that thing, that being a jeager pilot isn't having fun with fighting big monster but a really terrifying and painful thing eith huge amounts of responsibility. This movie is literally teenagers seeing it as a game and not like a life death situation that even the slightest mistake might bring doom
When you get down to it, some of us are still kids watching those Godzilla monster movies. Back then they were just people in suits against a cardboard city. It never gets old, they just get better
I quite like the whole three kaiju being merged into one super kaiju thing. Think it's a tribute to one of Godzilla's ultimate enemies, Destroyah, whose final giant form was created from multiple smaller creatures fusing together.
I won’t have a problem with their speed if they portrayed their Jaegers kicking up tornadoes just in moving so fast Would have been awesome if their “tank” had a brief hand to hand stalemate before being torn apart
The fact that they are moving so fast, makes it feels like toys are fighting. In the first movie you could literally feel that heaviness in the fights.

ugh.......... i think somebody forgot Eureka fighting Mutavore and Danger sprinting to Leatherback.......
JK Stuffs46 no we aren’t forgetting anything. While Danger may have sprinted in the first movie it was much slower and much heavier than this movie.
Amen
@@TheFallofTheEleventh welp, point taken HAHAHAHA
that jumping through buildings got me.
Wow, they really lowered the requirements for being a Jaeger pilot....

Oh my god, I just now realized what the point of the mega kaiju standing in front of Newton was;
In the first movie, Newt said he always wanted to see a kaiju up close.

Fuck your logic. The physics and slow movements action scenes were one of the main reasons the first movie was badass.
They can be twice speed like 10 years ago but the cars need to be 1100-1300kg to be fast. But these machenes are 10000 tone so fucking impossible to do back flip. Fucking unrealistic. And also in this this film there is no shadow. Thats why its look crappy or like some game scene

Mega-Kaiju is badass, one of my favourite monsters of all time.
If Obsidian Fury and Gypsy Avenger were duo they be like:Ninja time.

“Fire everything you got” doesn’t activate plasma canon
It was turned into a push-away-inator
Well, they kept forgetting about the super-powerful cannon in the first one too. Get shoved around by the turtle-gorilla, punch it ineffectually for five minutes.....then shoot it to death with the cannon in about ten seconds.
@@paulgibbon5991 in the first movie I think the canon had a limited number of shots, so it makes sense why they didn’t use it much.

The fights in this movie were shit, they looked like toys with how fast they were moving. And spell right next time.

@@Fmb4uok? just because it looks like toys doesn’t mean that it looks terrible, and I didn’t see anyone banging on Godzilla for doing a gravity defying dropkick. The less realistic feel allows for more creativity and interesting fighting styles for the Yeagers. At this point, you’re just trying to come up with invalid reasons in order to make this movie seem even worse than it already was.
@@Blizzardholocron No no, he has a point. The pre-establish fight scene from the first movie had weight to it, in the new sequel it throws away that premise entirely.
Now if this movie was it's own thing no one would really care it'd just be another power ranger movie, but the fact it's a sequel to Pacific Rim, and it throws away all the establish mechanics of that universe is the problem. . .

literally the first scene of the first movie is that thing, that being a jeager pilot isn't having fun with fighting big monster but a really terrifying and painful thing eith huge amounts of responsibility. This movie is literally teenagers seeing it as a game and not like a life death situation that even the slightest mistake might bring doom
Why didn’t they attack the kaijus when they were becoming the mega Kaiju that would’ve been easier
Maybe they had no idea what was going on at first when it was happening
