I started going to The Rink when I moved to Chicago from Boston. Crazy how a skater can go anywhere around the world and feel right at home in a roller rink

Give the Rink and its founders the Nobel Peace Prize. This is what we all need these days. This is awesome.

When on skates your problems are behind you. It's meditation. Skate to live.

Us REAL SKATERS back in the day, we went to HOT WHEELS on Chicago Ave and Pulaski. THATS where you went to LEARN how to SKATE! they didn't call it the CONCRETE JUNGLE for NOTHING.
Some of the best skaters on the PLANET honed their skills there. And the best skating group, was DISCO WHEELS!
they were UNREAL! Led by By Disco Mike, Poochie, Dale, Steve and Christine, they looked like ice skaters on Roller skates.

I returned to skating as an adult (1997-2003) and never knew there was a style called JB until 2 weeks ago. Ironically, James Brown was my dad's musical idol and I remember as a kid running out of the apt whenever he would start playing his albums. After my father's passing, I realized his choice of music made more of an impression on me than I thought. When the local rink used to put on "The Big Payback", I would "get up and do my thang" in honor of my dad and JB. I look forward to returning to the wood in 2018..if not sooner.

Monique Moss I rolled at 87th st for 20 years, we just called it JB night, if they didn't play JB's "James Brown music" we didn't go.

DTV Burns idk what you mean by that. I'm just asking? I've never had problems in the neighborhoods here in nyc because I keep to myself and start shit with ppl. Idk how the south side of Chicago is. All I hear is stories and rumors and the rep they get in the news. I was gonna go anyway, but if it's really bad and I shouldn't bother then I would like a heads up in advance.

It's an Ok area. I would not wander around too far away form The Rink. There are some problem areas close by. I'm not sure why it would matter if you were white or not, that what I was referring too.
