Every time I hear the word burger it reminds me of a friend , we went out and had a burger meal for £6.80 just lovely until a month later she had her bank statement and saw her £6.80 contactless payment was actually £68.00 . No receipt , no refund . Check the machine before you tap and always get a receipt .

What I don't understand is why you didn't complain about the grease/oil and allow them to correct the mistake. If nothing else you could have got a price reduction for the poor standard of food. As a former chef, and in my opinion, that food was totally unacceptable for the price. Scribbles should be ashamed of themselves.
If they see the video I'm sure it will have more impact than just having a word with the staff and it getting hushed up.

On the upside, they will not exactly recommend them to friends and family and thats why many places like this don’t last long. Love your videos guys - very real! It wasn't just your chips that were dripping in grease...it was literally running from the bottom of your burger as you bite into it.
Yes, I noticed that too! I think the dry burger bun was just there to act as a napkin and absorb the grease perhaps !? 🤔

You may want to LOOK AGAIN (at about the 4.30 mark). He lifts OFF the top half (with burger, cheese and bacon... The tomato is on the bottom 'half', sitting on the lettuce and base bun. You can see 'juices or oils' dripping down (from what I suspect is the cheese and burger, but NOT the tomato!).
EDIT: I'm in London and you can get some fantastic, homemade burgers (with chips) for lunch at half the price - Yes, I know I'm maybe comparing 'apples and oranges', because of staff wages and 'sit down' diner overheads, but £20 + for that burger, chips and drink is not cheap! They would be comparable to some London prices that many complain about.
Just checked with a local diner that we havent been to in a while. I love their beef liver and onions. Comes with soup, salad, potato, and bread. Oh and a slice of spinach pie. All that used to cost $10.95 US. As of yesterday it now costs $19.99 US. So that cancelled that idea. Then i looked up my favorite Italian place to see if they've gone up too. Price for spaghetti and meatballs used to be $10.95, the meatballs are huge and you get 3. Comes with salad and garlic rolls. Now its $20.00. doubled in price. Sodas are $4.00 and thats just ridiculous. Its gotten so ridiculously overpriced that we cant afford to eat out unless the restaurant is having a special. We only do special occasions now. Its a shame.

I actually thought i was the only person who orders tap water... it really gets on my nerves that establishments charge so much for soft drinks. Hi Sharon and Martin, I have family that live in Elgin. Can't believe the prices of the food. £15 for a burger is very expensive.
I can't believe you paid £15.50 for the Burger and then paid an extra £1.50 for chilli chips. what a rip off . We had burger and chips cooked in the air fryer served with salad for two people and coast me in total £6.00 and I made the burgers myself . Loving theses Scottish videos Sharon and Martin, can't wait for the videos when your family come to visit you all back in Lincolnshire ❤

The oil on the chips may have been chilly oil which is drizzled on after cooking. I don't understand why you didn't complain when it was served? You didn't give the restaurant a chance to rectify the problem
It's a review video. No one puts chilli oil over chips, did you not see how saturated the chips were? Watch the video properly. I never send food Back, I've heard too many horror stories of what they do to your food when it comes back.

If it's bad out the shute you send it back and don't order anything else. Eat all the food then continue slam the place is odd. If it's bad don't eat it.
How am I to review it if I don't eat it? It wasn't bad, it had no flavour and the meal was over priced and the chips were dripping in oil.
That's the going rate these days! It's over a tenner in BK for a steak burger.
If it was bad then complain at the time and give the establishment the opportunity to fix things.

Since the Pandemic so many places have got sloppy and are over expensive.
So many places here on the Isle of Wight charge £15+ for a Burger meal
£16+ for a Roast and many places charge over £3 for a coffee.
It's no wonder people have Open Wallet Surgey.

Do you know how high food costs for restaurants (and other businesses) have risen lately?! The costs of running a business stay the same and bills still have to be paid. Local restaurants like Scribbles adapted so well during the pandemic and kept providing a much needed service for their loyal customers.
Jane, you keep popping up everywhere on this thread. The fries were saturated in oil and the burger was bland, get over it. The pizza was very tasty and the staff friendly and quick. Focus on the positives and attend to the issues we had and everything will be fine. Move on.

liam had cheeseburger and chips in morrisons other day & said it was the best he ever had and he is a very funny eater think it was £7.........them chips look horrible.😥& very dear.
martin you look so annoyed......and i would too....the burger is a £5 burger at most......and the chips....salt & chilli chips for £1.30 more....is a total rip off......as they only put half a fresh chilli on there.......(asda bag of chillies is 55p for 5).......and you could have added salt at the table.......i felt for you at this eatery......even the bagettes looked small too.......but hey ho.....thanks for the vlog......and i might not try there if i am ever in elgin.....great vlogs though up in scotland

Sorry mate I know I'm a Yorkshire man but I could feed a family of 3 for the cost of that burger and chips. I understand they have overheads but if your going to charge those prices you expect quality food.

I think these places should be ashamed of themselves, charging high end prices for very average food.
We're natural tight wads: 2 lunches for £10.99 at a local Brewers Fayre or a Carvery does us during the week! Somewhere like the Apron would be right up our street!
I'm not one to complain usually (but did recently at Miller & Carter, well just said something wasn't very nice when asked "How is your food?" = refunded us, which we said wasn't necessary (nice one M&C!)), but I'd have sent back those chips.

Crikey, I would have sent those chips back and told them that the burger was tasteless. I always have tap water when I go out for a meal, drink prices are ridiculous. They should be encouraging people to buy soft drinks to avoid drink driving but unfortunately they rip us off over here. In USA soft drinks are unlimited 😊😊. Still, it's lovely to see you out and about ❤❤❤

I'm pretty sure the owners don't always get to hear complaints from customers passed on by staff especially if they are at fault.
You should have complained,and l know it's not British,and them price's are over the top. also l drink lime and soda it's 38 pence in wetherspoons and l have paid £4.25 at a café why the difference?enjoyed your family life x
You know Martin by the time you finished that there was so much Grease on that plate I thought it was going to jump up on it's side and give us a rendition of "Summer Nights" "Beauty School Drop Out" and "You're the One That I Want".

I think Sharon had the best and you had the worst...I could see the grease dripping from the burger, as for the chips...Us watching were with you!. My burger and fries meal was there for all to see. We in no way rubbished the restaurant but pointed out a valid issue compared to other burger places in Elgin where we reviewed. Humble Burger and the Beach Hut At Lossimouth. Both of these places were a lot more tastier and cheaper. Our review was how it happened on the day. Others have also said the same thing so there might me something that needs looking into. The pizza was very good as was the service but no one mention's that. It wasn't a matter of complaining, we were there for a review of the food and it wasn't up to scratch on that occasion.
I believe that one looks like an advertisement instead.

Evening folks, I don't wish to bring down the wrath of the Empire but I'm afraid the burger and chips would have been rejected. All the oil was just not acceptable- looked a bit of grease to be dripping out of the burger too?? At the prices, going rate or not (certainly not around here) I'd expect better. Super venue and presentation but the grub seemed below parr.
Always order the tap water instead of bottled water.

@@butlersempire Burgers are bland by nature, that's why restaurants put all those different toppings on. When I do a BBQ for family and friends I rarely cook burgers for that reason.

The food wasn't inedible, the burger was flavourless and the fries were full of grease as you saw. WE always eat the food unless it is inedible. How can you review the food by only eating a little bit.

The funny thing is you make some similar items at home in your air fryers that look so much better than that and Cost a third of the price for two of you 👍 what a rip-off . With the nasty greasy chips and put back in the fire for a minute must’ve been already cooked and put back in for a minute and then dumped in your ramekin

Couldn’t have been that bad, you finished the burger and at no time did you complain.
It was a review, We always finish the food unless it is inedible. The point of finishing it is to see if it fills you up. No we don't complain, the point is to review without them knowing so you don't get special service and to see what the food is like. On this occasion, the burger and fries were not worthy of the price in my opinion. Others have said the same.
Terrible price for what you had, that was restaurant prices not lunch time cafe. You should have looked at the menu before sitting down to eat.

It's an unbiased review on our experience. No different than TripAdvisor. Why shouldn't we express our findings, it may help them to improve rather than just give a refund. I bet if the management sees this video, they will act on it immediately instead of the issue just being reported to a member of staff who would probably just give a discount and move on without their issue being rectified. That's the power of social media

I would not have been happy,frozen French fries cooked in cold oil,beef overcooked in the burger, and never get a burger with Monterey cheese no taste, needs American, Cheddar,or Blue cheese,fried,or raw onions would be nice.
Think I would of gone for Sharons pizza, looked better and more filling. Those chips were gross with all that oil, but I think they were frozen chips, thrown in the chip pan. Also when you showed us the burger and lifted it up, it was dripping grease. Not a lot of food for that price. Yeah a four for yours Martin and an 8/9 for Sharons . ❤
I like a nice pizza - with pepperoni on it! Can’t have a pizza without pepperoni on it! Even if I order a pizza that doesn’t come with pepperoni, or doesn’t have pepperoni in the ingredients, I usually ask Domino’s to add pepperoni to it!

Trafford Center, Manchester has a restaurant that charges just over £10 for a burger. Mind you just walked into a railway station take away and was going to purchase a bottle of water, then walked out. £2.69. Walked further along and went into Boots and paid just under a pound.
Dont buy anything from Railway Stations as double the price.

I’d rather buy a McDonald’s burger and fries than pay extortionate prices for a less than average burger and greasy chips that look like they’ve come from the freezer.
£17 for a burger and fries what a rip off. I make my own burgers with 5% fat mince, a bit of onion, a few breadcrumbs and an egg to bind it together. Each burger costs less than a pound if I buy the mince at the full price, which is very rare as most of the time I use mince that's reduced by 30% or 60% meaning that each burger can cost as little as 50p. In Jan 2023 I got 4Kg of 5% mince for 90p per 400g pack, the mince was use by that day,2/1/23 but each burger that I made cost about 23p each. I also made 20 mince and onion pies with two packs of the mince with each pie costing about 15p per pie as the 2Kg of flour, I bought from a site that sells food that is excess or just out of the best before date was 5p per Kg and the Marg was 99p. If possible I never pay full price for anything.

As someone that lives in Elgin... yeah for what you got that was overpriced.
100% they have to pay their staff min wage and they can't always be busy but even so the actual amount just isn't worth is, no salad or anything just the burger/cheese/bun(sure little garnish) and chips that put it to nearly £17
That's pretty bad... two onion rings / Coslaw / Salad would have at least made the plate fuller rather than £13 (cause no way you can say that amount of chips are worth more than £3) for just a burger.
I like scribbles haven't been in a while but em yeah it's went from a place to go before the cinema or for a nice lunch to somewhere doing big city prices
Although saying that knowing how the council is run I can quite imagine the council are taxing and charging them big city prices to be there.
In Ireland restaurants are closing weekly too expensive eating out now i know stuff s gone up but majority are taking the piss with their increase a steak sandwich now with bit salad 36 euros and thats not in tourist area

No it isn't, we ate it as part of the review to see if it was filling and it wasn't. The humble burger we reviewed in Elgin was around £9.00 and far superior and the Elton John burger at the Beach Hut in Lossie was also far better and cheaper.

You really should have called someone over , i once called them over because of greasiness..they replaced meal…then i found a fly in it..they said its summer & window is open! They wanted to replace it again but everyone else had finished…so they said they wouldn’t charge me!!! Hah as if! No wonder they went bust!

My husband and I have done that more than once. Sometimes we just order water until we see the menu, or glance at z few plates coming out.
