If the Duffer Brothers won't give me this plotline in canon, then I guess me and Joseph Quinn have to do it ourselves.
I can't remember the last time I was this invested in a non-canon ship. Probably Klance? But I'd compare my Steddie feelings more to my 2014 Stevebucky era (totally unrelated to the Eddie Munson Winter Soldier AU that has NOT left my brain since Vol. 2) or Merthur. Either way: GOOD SOUP
This video idea has been lingering in my head for like, a week and a half or something. I know that Eddie's advice quote at the beginning is ~supposed~ to be pushing Stancy in canon, but I REALLY wanted to use it in the "resigned to my fate that my crush doesn't like me back" context because, like. Fuuuuck. Teenage me would've gone absolutely BONKERS over this song.

I definitely thought he was gonna hug him/kiss him or at least ask him out right then, like a "if/when we get out of here, you wanna go -- with me?" kinda thing. the silence between "hey steve?" and then the "make him pay" was deafening.

Honestly it’s more of just a concept/list of parallels in my head rather than a fleshed-out AU? It’s essentially the Kas theory but like, Bucky Barnes instead of vampires. Also I thought of it before seeing the Kas theory and then I just never bothered to do more bc they’re similar enough at their roots lmao.
Like: TFA Bucky also dying a hero in the middle of battle, Eddie getting taken right before death by Vecna and then brainwashed into a soldier during the timeskip, only to remember himself after seeing Steve (also Dustin ofc bc BROTHERS 😭), etc. I just had the most VIVID image in my head of the “Bucky?” “Who the hell is Bucky?” scene after watching Vol. 2 but with Steddie instead (helps that there‘s a Steve in scenario LOL) and I love making myself sad. It’s been a fuckin’ while since I’ve watched my CA movies/shows though so the details basically end with my TWS memories from late high school unfortunately 🤣
