I love Finn. One time when I was going into panhandle exotics in Pensacola Florida I held a tenrec and he was so nice and held on to my hand the whole time.
Hi tori, I really need your help, I’m getting a hedgehog soon and want to give it the perfect diet but I’m really not sure, i think I found a good cat food and I found some freeze dried hedgehog mealworms and beetles and Vegetables but I want to make sure it’s ok, I know that the percentages are ok but I want to double check about the ingredients they are ... Turkey meal (28.5%), brown rice, white rice, maize gluten, poultry gravy, potato protein, turkey fat, tomato pomace (3.0%), sugar beet pulp, alfalfa meal, whole linseed (1.5%), pea protein, potassium chloride, seaweed, omega oil supplement, chicory extract (0.25%), calcium carbonate, carrot, sodium chloride, cranberry extract (0.05%), glucosamine (0.045%), nettles (0.025%), yucca extract (0.02%), rosemary extract, chondroitin (0.005%) And it’s 34% protein 3% crude fibre 10.5% fat content. It would be great if you could help me out to see if this is good. Thank you
I know this isn’t a hedgehog video but I was wondering g if you could help me with my hedgehog. I just got him 2 days ago and he is very scared. I did a lot of research but I still think that he won’t open up. I need some advice, do I leave him alone? Do I still have to bond with him everyday? Will my hands get used to his spikes? I really need to know! He is also not drinking water but he is eating food. He is also quilling as of this moment. All he wants to do is hide.
Its only been 2 days, but you have to keep on handling him, he probably won't open up right away, but just keep him with you as much as you can, in a bonding bag or a fleece blanket. If he is quilling he will be extra sensitive and grumpy. So don't let all of this intimidate you, he's still a baby so he can be tamed. Just keep on "manhandling" him...do not leave him alone. Keep working with him, its only been 2 days, that's nothing. For some owners it takes months and months, or even years. You're lucky that you have a younger hedgehog (if he is younger I'm just guessing based on the quilling) and that you can tame him. Join Hedgehogs Anonymous on Facebook the admins and breeders there will tell you the same thing and more advice :) good luck!
I just bought my hedgehog two days ago too! Mine is 4 months and scared out of his mind too! I played with him for about 1 hour everyday for the past 2 days. But im rotating the play time to about 15 minutes every couple hours to help him settle a bit more easily. Try wearing a hoodie when you're handling him and only pick him up from the bottom. My little guy seems to ease up once he's flat on my hands but he's still pretty jittery and scared. I left a used t-shirt of mine in his cage too so he gets used to my smell. I also noticed that he's losing a ton of his spines so I guess he might be quilling and maybe he's just grumpy because hes in pain. Anyways best of luck!!
It’s not particularly healthy to keep tenrecs out of torpor unfortunately. They’re naturally suited for it. Even in tropical climates they will go into torpor once a year.
I have been doing lots of research on hedgehogs and I have been watching your videos. I really want to get a hedgehog but don't know what to house it in. I was wondering if a small rabbit hutch would work. It is about 5 square feet. If anyone knows what would work could you please let me know. Thanks!!
She has a link in her description where you can get her cadges that she uses. You can probably also find them at a pet store. Some people also use c and c cadges that you build and design the shape yourself.
That should work, it sounds large enough. Just be sure that it is sealed properly (hedgehogs will ruin unsealed wood with their pee and poop) and that it can be heated. A lot of hutches would require a space heater most likely. Bin cages are also a popular option if you’re on a budget. I prefer the 50 gallon totes but a 110 qt is the minimum size. C&C cages also work!
Can anyone help me? I’m looking into a hedgehog and have been looking for about a year. The problem is their are no “certified” breeders (according to hedgehog central) in my area. Their are some breeders that are unofficial which kinda scares me. Also their are some pet shops that sell them. I don’t know what’s my best option. What would anyone advise?
Colm D'Alton i have seen some in craigslist..you know how people are, they easily get bored unfortunely and don't want to commit.😪.And thats with rabbits ,puppies ,pigs ...To certainnPoint it's a rescue and sometimes they include cages.
Check in with the hedgehog groups on Facebook. Unfortunately certified breeders only have to be certified when they have over a certain number of females, so it doesn’t always mean they’re great breeders either. Hedgehog Happenings and Hedgehogs Anonymous are the biggest groups and will probably get you breeder suggestions the fastest.

You should totaly do a hedgehog pros and cons video. It would help me out so much!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
Finn is so cuttte!!!
What does anoint mean
Will a Tenrec torpor in a tropical country where winter does not exist? I kind of want one but I don't want an animal that will torpor/hibernate...
It’s not particularly healthy to keep tenrecs out of torpor unfortunately. They’re naturally suited for it. Even in tropical climates they will go into torpor once a year.

Hey! Ilysm! U have given me so much advice

And the rabbit hutch should work just make sure everything you need fits. Hedgehogs usually need 4 square feet or more
That should work, it sounds large enough.
Thank you all so much this really helped me!
What percentage UVB do you use? Thanks for making the video, it was great! I love Finn.
10%! UVB is debated a lot for tenrecs though, so you’ll find people use a lot of different spectrums because no one has decided what is best yet. :)
Thank you for answering my question! I'm thinking of getting a tenrec sometime in the future so I'm trying to learn as much as I can.
Imo, lesser tenrecs are more hedgehoggy than any real hedgehog ever could be 😂
Can anyone help me?

Colm D'Alton use a breeder only. What state do u live in? I can ask the hedgehog page I'm part of on Facebook

I don’t live in the U.S I live in Ireland. Thanks for the recommendations everyone.
You can look at volcanoe view hedgehogs if you live in the United States 🇺🇸. 😀
Would you ever consider doing a tenrec care video?
Probably not! Tenrec care is evolving everyday and I only feel comfortable doing very basic videos on them. :)
❤️I luv it ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I’m getting a hamster soon and if it’s a boy I’m naming it Blaise for you so rip Blaise and I’m sorry for your loss
🖤🖤
Why does he have those hairy spikes?
