- Surprisingly popular game. I'm not a big fan of deck builders but this one looks fun and quirky. I am getting drawn in despite myself. I'm curious to see where this goes.

Inscryption is an inky black card-based odyssey that blends the deckbuilding roguelike, escape-room style puzzles, and psychological horror into a blood-laced smoothie. Darker still are the secrets inscrybed upon the cards...
When you sacrificed the snake you should have given it's skill to the snapping turtle instead of the wolf, that way the turtle would be a tank AND an instant killer, meaning you could place it Infront of a bear and kill it on a single turn while surviving the attack of the next bear to then kill it. Which is the scenario that you had for the second (and your final) boss
I was yelling the same thing at the screen.

I don't think hostile ants count. The description specifically mentions "number of ants that the owner has on their side of the table."

Squirrels can be a sacrificial blocker if needed. The sigil that sends a card back into your hand is THE BEST ONE! always take it.
"Why are there three hands on this clock?" It seems we have forgotten that the third hand is the 'second' hand. Though to be fair, not every clock has a third hand which is the 'second' hand, and when they do it is usually far less pronounced than the second or first hand. Love your videos Francis!

Rare cards often have effects not necessarily obvious from the card itself. For example, sacrificing Child 13 will swap it to a version with attack power (1/2 IIRC). Sacrificing it again will return it to its 0/1 version.

Awesome series to do, as someone who's played Inscryption to 100%, do your best not to spoil the game please, commentators and Francis. ENJOY!!!
I actually think, in this case, he should absolutely read the comments and exploit the heck out of the card side of this game, if anyone can absolutely boss this with a lil knowledge, it's FJ

@@aaronius932 I'd also go as far as, if he's reading comments and learning from them, why not just google it and learn from others on the internet, it would mean less comments "giving out" about what he "should" have done
Ants increase in power the more their owner (you) control.
The drawer puzzle: imagine the battlefield and how damage would be dealt by creatures/blockers if a turn were to begin. (4/6 opposed by 0/1 gets blocked, dealing 0. Slide the blocker piece up and now it deals 4 unopposed.)
That's how I was understanding both things.
One of my favorite runs included an unkillable ant and the ant totem. Every time you sacrifice it, you get it back and another ant. Infinite swarm, slowly growing stronger 😂
he puts poison to 3/2 wolf instead of 1/6 turtle... what a shame
Francis, use your items! They will help you a lot. You can ABSOLUTELY beat his cheating play; in fact, doing so is a challenge in Kaycee's Mod, the roguelike mode. Also, you need to explore the cabin. You can get very nice upgrades, like the Smoke going from 0/1 to 1/3. In fact, if you had used your items earlier, you may have gotten scissors that let you cut up one of his cards, allowing you to punch him in the face with your 7/3 for an instant win.
I wanted to scream every time Francis sacrificed a solid strategy for a big smashy cards. Francis, not everything revolves around attack power.
Here's the thing, Francis hasn't learned to exploit the game yet, when he does, he'll likely absolutely wreck it, think of his stacklands playthrough and how it took a little while but then he was basically unstoppable
One of the first fights, the one with 2 trees and a rock is super stacked against you. After a first two turns he just starts spamming bears, you are supposed to die there, and if not - some time soon before fighting angler
You're so good at the game you hit the "rocks fall everyone dies" devs put in to give themselves more time to explain mechanics

It wasn't actually blind luck: Francis didn't fully understand, but there aren't that many combinations in total. So he managed to try enough of them.
That's called "solved through blind luck" :P
Surprised you didn't pick up the roach. Passing that skill to another critter e.g. a wolf seems strong.
It's a great skill Putting it on a free cost card is honestly broken; Infinite sacrifice loop.

Just beat part 1 by giving the ant queen undying, and getting to the totems. This game has a lot more to it than I was aware of, you may be in for a surprise how mind rattling this is!!
Every time you play a new game you do it in a way I never expected or saw coming. Can't wait to see what you do with this bad boy! Loved it myself
There are so many ways to play Inscryption. The only certainty is that FJ's style will be different than mine.

Part 1 of the game is a true masterpiece of a cardgame, probably one of my favorite game in general.

YAY! Inscryption is such an amazing game, please treat this game like you did Subnautica and don't look up any guides. This game is best while you're in the dark, and don't mind the Stoat, he doesn't know what he's talking about. 😂
+1 for blind. After 'winning', look up all the guides and challenges, but there's nothing quite like exploring such a demented game blind.

That puzzle at the ending was so Frustrating to watch. The goal was to arrange the cards so that you dealt 5 damage in one swing

i hope you enjoy this series, it's one of my favorites, next to subnautica, but apples and oranges when compared to each other but quality all the same. There are ways to call mulligans for cards you pick but some may see it as save scumming or cheating so I'll leave the information if requested

There are a LOT of hidden mechanics, I won’t spoil any but many cards feel weak but their sigils can combo in surprising ways. My advice is try to combine as many different sigils together, you will discover many interesting stuff
This is one of my favourite game ever, it is weird but the scenario is very original. If you have time the roguelike mod after the end of the story is cool too and has some very challenging decks to try

Inscription will take some of your brain power. Eventually.
Winning in the very first run of a fresh save takes a decent amount of brain power.

The game is solid regardless, and one of the few spoiler heavy games I find replayable, but there is simply nothing like playing this blind.
The only game I can think of with a more stunning reveal was 4d Golf.

51:17 you are simulating one turn of a battle and trying to deal 5 damage with those numbers on the tiles being the strengths of the cards on your side and the opponents side. So for the first one, when all the creatures were on your side, and he had no defenders, you dealt 5 dmg and won.

Where things get crazy is if you get the option to give your SQUIRRELS that ability. It's quite cursed.

1) I bet you will make use of the grizzly. 2) The bird wasn't great, but flight is a great sigil to sacrifice to other cards.

It's easy to forget that most "intelligence" is just stubborness that survived the learning curve.

Inscryption isn't 'hard', per se, it just takes a while to figure out the rules and interactions. Kacey's Mod (which isn't a mod, it's the prequel to Inscryption), now THAT one's hard.
FJ missing out on overkill damage:
02:40 Could have stalled, drawn more squirrels, then played more cards.
06:55 Could have replaced the stoat with a wolf for +2 overkill. Could probably get more overkill with better planning.
09:50 The river snapper might have been the better choice. It would win slower, buying time to play more squirrels for more overkill damage. It depends on what the enemy plays though.
20:59 I'm not gonna do the math on this one, but that's a ton of missed overkill damage.
25:34 Could have waited for the tree to die, gotten +1 damage a turn over the opponent, and played the grizzly at the last second.

This game is incredible. The cardgame is easily broken, but the story is fantastic. No spoilers from me

I'm now 5 hours into this game ($8.00 US on Steam now!) and can't make it past the boss in the Wetlands. Hoping for another episode soon to see how you manage it.
47:15 I think you could have not waited a turn, put down a squirrel and sacrifice squirrel and stoat to put the wolf out that turn which also gives you bones to put the possum out too. Could have been outdamaging the sparrows that same turn

The puzzle you had no idea what you were doing in was just a simple board with some card representations, you had to place it in a way to deal 5 damage to the enemy. You figured it out by randomly swapping but it was supposed to be a simple puzzle
I think those puzzles were just the main game but you had to do 5 damage on top of the cards in each scenario, and the front/back rows were the second turn of it

There's also a fair amount of in game music to choose from, but I don't know what the copyright on that stuff is like.

It's very strange to me what people call "rogue-like" these days. I have played rogue. This game doesn't seem at all similar, beyond having a few fantasy elements.

There is ALOT Combo you can do in this game but ill tell you that mantis is very useful, its attackin left and right but if you put the sigil to the wolf just how nmuch can it damage now? 2 + 2 = 4, not only that but if you increase the wolf attack it will do 3 + 3 = 6
I haven’t played the game, so I don’t know if this works, but maybe try to set the clock to 12 o’clock. It looks like a cuckoo’s clock and maybe something pops out?

This game is weird. And it only gets _weirder_. Enjoy Act 1, it's my favorite.
There's a reason the DLC/Mod/Prequel/Sequel thingy expands on Act 1.
The other acts have their own charm, but aren't as replayable due to how the story and game design works.
