It's possible to change the camera angle or distance. However, the sceneries aren't be drawn correctly just like when you play the game with the widescreen hack enabled.

I don't know a lot about programming (my focus is the art side of games), but I'm guessing every level has a specific list of models with ID numbers (local variables?) and you programmed Crash's different poses to random models within the level by changing his pose ID with the ID of each model? Am I close?
No, a custom file format called NSF contains all of the resources used by the level currently being played, so modifying animations in a level doesn't affect other levels.

I was saying I'm assuming you basically tell the character controller to switch to a different model ID, but depending on the level, the ID may be registered to like a lab assistant or a gorilla. Like "load animation 2" or whatever would be a different model depending on the level.

Yeah it would be cool but the levels would probably have very low draw distance
