I'm calling it now. Chealsea is gonna use this movie as a totally valid excuse to have Fred Durst in the next horror survivor, and I am 150% okay with that.
I know someone who saw a longer cut of this movie saying it was much raunchier and had way more kills. Apparently the Whole Kollective dies at one point and that's why Garrett and Rachel escape to follow the others when they are at the fence/porta potty area. Because i was thinking why would Garrett randomly leave the rest of the Kollective.
man that’s so disappointing!! i thought it was a pretty fun movie for what it is, but knowing there’s an extended cut out there makes me want that asap lol
I was in pre-school during Y2K and remember when we *the survivers* came back to school and all of the teachers made a big deal to change the calendars to 2000. It's amazing how many of us made it RIP to those who didn't. 🙏 😅
Taco Bell dog’s name was Gidget and she was in Legally Blonde 2, actually. You’re welcome. As a millennial as well, I HAD to look this up. Thank you for this review and the nostalgia trip. I was 9 and I definitely remember. Lol
I’m a medical aesthetician specializing in lasers. It’s an S cause laser is an acronym; The acronym laser stands for "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation."
I saw this yesterday at 10:40am. My take is I'm glad people were employed for a while and the vibes were pretty laid back. It was a chill way to start the day. I was also the only person in the theater which was nice.
Also I would like to echo the sentiment that the music video Chelsea references early IS HORRIFYING. The song is called Rock DJ, and I watched it as a child and it’s absolutely unsettling
And it's not "them ripping off his skin," it's him stripping for them in a flirty and quirky manner, and he strips his own skin off to please them. It's so freaking dark.
OKAY so I'm actually NOT weird for citing it as one of the first things that got me into horror? Because, uh, it did and everyone looks at me weird when I mention it xD
Yeah stuff like that makes be a bit angry because of how easy it is for children to see music videos which are frequently very adult whether it be gore, sex, swearing, etc. This video is a more extreme version of a big problem with music videos, especially on RUclips, with no safeguards for protecting children.
“We’re so close to being booted.” I don’t know I’m a 1991 millennial and Dead Meat(especially the podcast) always makes me feel like I’ve found my millennial home!

The Taco Bell dog was named Gidget, the first Legally Blonde movie showed one of her Taco Bell commercials it was being watched by Elle (Reese Witherspoon's) dog, Bruiser. The chihuahua that played Bruiser was Moonie. Gidget played Moonie's mom in Legally Blonde 2.
I was a senior in high school in the year 2000. Yes! My graduation year was 2000. I remember this time so clearly. It was a crazy, confusing, awful, amazing time.
This hasn't been released outside North America yet, so I'm leaving an AFK view for now and will watch the podcast properly when I can see the film. Thanks for all the wonderful podcasts in 2024 ❤
love the discussion, BUT I MUST SAY that i am completely fine with horror survivor being delayed. making something you’re proud of and want to share is >>>>> something you feel stressed making. we are here to enjoy the content, but it only *works* when we feel like dead meat is having fun. we can get horror content in a lot of ways if we ~need it~ but we can only get the dead meat team here 🖤✨
This movie worked when it was a dumb stoner comedy, it got plenty of laughs out of me. The part where the film lost me was when it tried to make care about these characters and the main guy getting together with Rachel Zegler.
Enjoy your Holiday break, Deadmeat! You guys definitely deserve it. If you guys came and did a show in DC somehow or even around that area next year, I’d for sure get tickets!
9 minutes in and it feels like listening to my parents reminiscing about the 80s cracking inside jokes etc but the energy is definitely infectious at least lol
I had SO MUCH FUN watching Y2K!!! It was a great time! If there’s one thing about a Jaeden Martell character, it’s that he wears blue and rides a bike!
This discussion is giving me so many member berry feels 😂 the LA Looks blue gel and the Got 2 Be glue, I haven’t thought about my hard as a rock crunchy spiked hair in like 2 decades
Watching this right after the Christmas live show. Just wanted to say that you two, along with everyone else who worked on it, the guests, and the audience members who played the games did such an amazing job and made it such a fun time! It made me so happy to see how far you and the channel have come since I started watching during the original Scream KCs (I think, it was like 7 years ago now 😅). Very much worth the £17. Much love to all of you! 💜🫂💜🫂
28:40 nah it would of been a thing, people HATED Jack Black in “I Know What You Did Last Summer 2” specifically because he was literally the white stoner with dreads. It’s as so embarrassing to Jack Black that he was like “put a different name in the credits”
THANK YOU JAMES for giving Natalie a copy of 28 Days Later!! She just mentioned you in her channel and the both of you are my favorite youtubers and i got so excited when she mentioned you both met! Hope to meet you both someday 😊
I was 4 years old in 1999 and have little to no memory of that year. What I liked most about this movie was the very late 90s and very early 2000s vibe.
Hi!! 22 y/o here! Frosted tips were already a micro hair trend a couple years ago and low rise jeans and heroine chic are happening right now. Y2K is actually its own very popular ‘aesthetic’ rn n has been for a couple years. In fact the kids are slowly but surely moving on to idealizing the early 2010’s.
Man, this movie. I was literally the same age as these kids. I graduated in 2k, but got in a year early. I took my 15 year old daughter opening night, and the nostalgia bombs are SO huge. PLUS the subtle references, ie, Hacker's reference at the end...I jumped like a sports ball got scored lol, bloody brilliant! (Hacker's was my groups intro to Matthew Lillard)
30:43 finally my weird collection of knowlage can be used for something! Laser is actually an acronym. It means Light Amplification (through) Simulated Emisson of Radiation.

I dont know much about Regal Cinema as I'm from the UK but anytime I got to Vue Cinema we have some guy talking about putting your phones away and stop yapping it's great, it's simple and straight forward and the movie begins.
Literally Y2K is the only New Year's I stayed up till midnight for. I don't remember anyone being really concerned, but I do remember a group of us at school focusing on the oncoming zombie apocalypse that 2000 would bring 😂
And James, T-1 in a nutshell: It was at universities at first because they were the only ones who could afford it. It was the first broadband wiring into large routers then connected through ethernet cables instead of phone cables. It was basically the birth of ethernet, which ruled until wifi. 35:37 in high school I would always play beer pong with shots of hard liquor because for some reason beer would always make me really sick. Barley and hops are high in nickel and that’s why I always got sick from drink half a can but could drink a lot more vodka for example and yes get drunk but not get sick
Robbie Williams 'Millenium' music video must be watched if y'all are planning a James Bond podcast... worth the watch for the Sean Connery James Bond era Easter Eggs. The shoes probably had more scenes, but there was an interaction at the party where the skaters call him a poser for wearing them. I am surprised they never called Fred Durst, Mr. Durst or none of the older people called him Mr. Limp Bizkit. Looking forward to the review on Letterboxd. Good podcast as usual.
Yall did meet the Stranger Things guy 2 years ago. Said yall really liked the guy and yall met him because his booth was next to yalls. I forgot what episode it was but yall mentioned it on the podcast a couple years back

And I remember burning my 2 cds I ever had to burn with greenday and some other music from the early 2ks lmao

When Eli is walking around the party two kids come down the stairs and they look at his shoes and call him a p o s e r. Looked like “skater kids”. I was confused why they called him a poser until later in the movie he has a melt down over his shoes. Since his shoes are from some celebrity skater line 😂 I am also in the timeline meta verse where when they were getting ready for the party it looks like a small zip lock of blow, not a durex condom 😅 *The line about a white guy with dreads was the most obvious not 1999 dialogue 😂

When I ran 35mm film, there were specific parts in ads that signaled to me to switch projectors (I remember the Regal one being a big popcorn kernel popping). I graduated high school in 2000. I remember watching Limp Bizkit on MTV’s New Years special performing their “1999” cover. One of my best guy friends was huge into Limp Bizkit, I remember telling him he looked like Fred Durst and it made his life. lol Or at least his teen boy life, he seriously lit up like a little puppy dog, I’ll never forget it. I don’t know where he is now 25 years later but I hope he sees this movie and remembers that moment as fondly as I do. Also as I recall, the term “fuck buddy” was in use back then!
My husband was just complaining about that same commercial yesterday! When I told him that Chelsea was sick of that commercial too, he gave you guys fist pumps of solidarity. 🤣
Question about the live show, I want to buy a ticket for the livestream, is that just the general admission ticket on the website or is it something separate?
Not my favorite movie of the year, but i enjoyed it enough. Having a queer numetal head was a highlight for me. We never see that on screen and it brought me joy.
48:05 that’s exactly how are you to do my hair I get out of the shower. I towel dry it. I would put my hair upside down brush through it. Take that exact gel and crunched the hell out of my hair so it was curly, but it was so much gallant dried. You could literally touch it and fear the crunch.
51:25 bath then we had this one friend who would do anything no matter how disgusting it was if he paid him it was like the money joke with us and it wasn’t like we were picking on him. He was like do you want to throw me through a table OK do you wanna spit on my pizza and make me eat it five dollars it was a crazy time
I'm calling it now. Chealsea is gonna use this movie as a totally valid excuse to have Fred Durst in the next horror survivor, and I am 150% okay with that.
