I love your classroom. I'm in Texas too. South Texas. They say everything is bigger in Texas, but I have noticed that most elementary classrooms in Texas are tiny with 20-plus students. Thank you for sharing because I will be starting as a 2nd-grade teacher soon. 😀
Thank you for sharing your classroom! I love how everything has a purpose. You have been intentional with every area. It gives me some ideas for my own classroom. I can't wait to see what you will be changing!
I just found your channel and i learned a lot from this video. I was a specials teacher last year and I'm moving to another district to be a SPED Autism teacher so I will need to set up this classroom very differently from the last one. I want to have as many systems in place on day one as possible.
We use HMH too. I'm really curious how you'll revamp your center ideas to fit it. ETA: where do I find the HMH projects you made in the wiring center portion of this? Also where is the monthly prompt list that goes on your third ring from?
Currently thinking through how I’ll revamp my centers now that I have the time to think. Iv’e just added the choice board link in the description, the HmH projects will be added later.
How do you handle hallway misbehavior? Like what consequence do you use if a studnet misbehaves in the hallway? Also do you have studnet who need to be refocused a lot more sit right next to you? Please answer
Great question! In terms of hallway behavior do you mean how do I handle it when we were walking in the hallway? I use the proximity to my advantage, I am teaching whole group I would assign them a sit spot close to me or in the front. For their desks I would sit them closest to me. Hope this helps 😊
Yes I meant how do you handle it while walking in the hallway? Like what consequences do you use for it? Like would you have them hold your hand or just walk with you? Also would you have them sit right next to you at the kidney table if they need to be near you? How would you have them sit right next to you at the kidney table like would you have them pull a chair over ? Please answer
I’ve had them hold my hand before, but what works better is if I give them a job like line monitor. It gives them something constructive to do while also reminding them of the expectations. And yes, I have had students sit next to me at the kidney table if needed. I make sure to use a timer so they don’t get too comfy.
How do you have them sit right next to you at the kidney table? Do you have them bring a chair over since there is no room at the kidney table for them to pull the chair over? Also what do you if a studnet want to hold your hand for fun? Like what would you do if that happened? Please answer
Chair or on the floor with a clipboard and a cushion whatever the student needed. Yes, they would want to hold my hand for fun, so giving them a job is your best bet. Also, nothing beats strong routines, systems and procedures. Everything is explicitly taught and reinforced all year long.

I am so glad that you found it helpful! That’s a big move! Best of luck and stick around for more videos about systems and routines 💛
best of luck to you!
I love your classroom. How did you attach your pegboard to the cabinet in your writing center?
Thank you so much!! It’s attached with heavy duty command strips. 😊
What a great space!
Thank you so much!
Please make more videos! I am going down to 2nd grade from 4th also in North Texas!
More videos coming soon!! I am glad you enjoyed this one and want more. Also second grade is the best grade! 💛
