My first encounter with IKEA was in the store in Richmond, BC, Canada in the 70's. That store has moved and expanded twice since then. Thanks for the video of IKEA in Sweden!
@@ThreeStarVagabond I lived in Richmond when it first opened and they had a huge crowd on opening day. I ended up working near their second and third versions of the store, a very dangerous proposition at least dangerous to my wallet. I loved going there after work to either eat dinner or pick things up to cook at home. I still have a lot of IKEA stuff in my house including things that are no longer offered by IKEA. Typing to you from my computer sitting on an IVAR unit. lol
Haha, that's lovely! I've actually never lived close to an IKEA, and I don't have a car - so there's no risk of me buying too much furniture spontaneously. But I do have a fair bit of stuff from there. Right behind me is a chest of drawers that's not sold anymore, and I can't recall what it's called... It's a pity - it's quite nice looking!
Intersting and informative vid. Thanks for the explanation of the product names. When my Swedish friends visit us in Scotland and we go to our local IKEA they laugh at the product names and how we try and pronounce them.
I appreciate Ikea having a miniature gävlebocken we can all enjoy burning in the comfort of our own homes, no matter what country we live in. I will also add that I would find it a very enjoyable video if you talked about snacks, food, and drinks from Sweden. Could be traditional or obscure things, or things someone must try or try to avoid. I have a friend in Gävle who I exchange care packages with and he always manages to send me the most disgusting candy he can find, I refuse to believe this is all Sweden has to offer 😅
A burned Gävlebock in every home - that's our motto! :D And thank you so much for that suggestion! Ironically enough, I have been thinking of making a video about Swedish candy, but I just feel so ridiculous at the thought of lining up tons of candy at home... But yeah, Swedish snacks and drinks and candy - those are all great ideas! Thanks ^_^
Now that you've made an episode about IKEA, you must of course make one about the other big store that is soooo.... important to many Swedes: Gekås Ullared.
Oh absolutely... You know, I was thinking of it but it's just a bit too far off to make it an easy visit. I have it on my todo list though! And as soon as I can combine it with another trip to the region, then I'll go for it :D
Interesting tour. Not been to IKEA in the UK for a long time. They are always so busy and impossible to park :( Wish they'd open up more branches. Though I do get my meatball fix elsewhere. Yum 😋
Yeah parking is always a bit of a mess. I went by public transport on this visit but yeah that won't work if you're buying furniture... Cheers for meatballs!
@@TheGramophoneGirl Well yeah, that's true.. But it also used to belong to Denmark, and back then some parts that are Swedish now belonged to Norway/Denmark. It's a bit of a mess!
Cool vlog - love some of the weird naming conventions at IKEA! Wish I knew the Gnabbas trick when my children needed discipline 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for sharing and can’t wait for the road trip vlogs to come😊
Haha, I'm glad someone approves of my child raising tips ;D Cheers! I'll start the work of sorting through 320 GB of material for those videos this week ^^
Awesome video, you learn something new all the time, like how IKEAs name came to be I thought it was a family name. There is an IKEA about one hour from where I live and we have been many times, they definitely figured out how to get you to see the whole store, one way in and one way out not in the same places. When we were in Sweden we drove by the IKEA you were at, thank goodness we didn’t crash 😂. Stay safe till next time
Haha, I'm sure they made the road reeeally safe after the king got into his accident :D I really like going to IKEA, so this was fun - even if I wasn't shopping this time. But this one might be a tiny bit too big! It was really sprawling all over the place...
I never new that I needed a rocking moose! Great video Miro! I love IKEA, but having a FIAT 500 I have found myself quite limited on what I can buy in store - thank goodness that IKEA do home delivery service. If you can, look up a song on RUclips called I fear IKEA by The Lancashire Hotspots 😁. Have a great day ❤
Everyone needs an Ekorre :D And yeah I know your pain. I don't even own a car, so I have to rent one if I want to buy something! Haha! Oh that was brilliant. "He went missing a week ago between kitchens and beds" :D Love it! Cheers :D
It almost seems like they must have people employed solely for naming their products. Perhaps they'll soon use AI for coming up with new names, and then they might end up with names of really tiny unknown places or weird old words depending on what they've fed the AI with. And even some AI hallucinations? 10:15 - Isn't that berry supposedly a luxury? But they sell it in Ikea? Hm... 🤔 Bearnaise sauce? Lol! That's just so 1980s! 😂
It would be so much fun to see what an AI would come up with actually! There's no way it would have that quirky humor that they usually have :D Yep, hjortron is a luxury, but nothing is too luxorious for IKEA! Haha, nah, the jam is actually commonly available (but hard to find cloudberries in the woods). Oh, bearnaise is still going strong at every crappy pub in Sweden...
As usual, another brilliant video that made my face hurt from smiling. I have a friend who I did IKEA days with. Yes, a whole day. IKEA Lakeside, outside London. Then I moved north. I call IKEA "Little Sweden" and I do food shopping there on a regular basis. (We also have Jysk, which you don't want to know about 😂 and I call "Little Denmark" but it's less exciting, no café and less interesting stuff, although they do really good pillows....sorry IKEA). In the UK IKEA, surprise surprise....you get fish and chips (and mushy peas which they charge more for when there are no regular peas). I love the kids section too and now mine are all grown and gone, I still buy cute stuff and have a box of things for when I have grandchildren. It's a good excuse to indulge. And there are rumblings of imminent little feet! 😊 I'm not on social media, but I would love to see some traditional crafts.
Haha, lovely to hear that we're spreading some Swedishness over there as well. Even if the Danes apparently are trying to invade too. Those bastards! ^_^ I should have expected there to be fish 'n chips at IKEA over there, but I never really thought about it actually. But hey, don't let the lack of suitable kids yet deter you from messing around with the childrens' toys - that never stops me. Alright, traditional crafts is noted! It's not really an area I'm familiar with, but maybe I could find something...
This was a lot of fun. We have two IKEAs in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas...and almost had a third close by (that would have been near our NASCAR race track..."Yee-Haw!!!"). I have friends who have credit cards that get IKEA reward points. So, Sweden has successfully invaded Texas (and won the hearts of many).
Sweden hasn't just infiltrated Minnesota in other words - we've infiltrated the hearts of Texans as well :D Some day I'd love to go to that IKEA as well as NASCAR, to have a perfect contrast of cultures....
@@ThreeStarVagabond We're a couple weeks away from a NASCAR weekend. If nothing else, the people watching in town gets good. (We'll get a one-two punch of a run on grocery stores in the area between people coming in over the coming weekend for the total eclipse and the following weekend for the race.)
@@ChristopherGronlund There's a lot of stuff happening in other words! Fun times - and meanwhile in Sweden it started snowing again today. This is Mordor!
Of course, as tourists, we made our way to Kungens Kurva Ikea but it was way too big and we escaped the 6 rings of hell. We'll stick to our local store.
ikea is regestrated in the Netherlands and is a non tax paying compagnie, yes than you can get that rich isn't! But anyway, thank you for your nice content. Kind regards
About Kamprad being stingy. I saw and interview with Ingvar Kamprad some years before he died. He ate at one of his restaurants on camera and complained to the staff of the cantina for getting one less meatball than he had paid for.
In 1943, a lot of Europe was at war. I think Sweden wins in its use of time, and no one has been hurt. The Denmark town names really make me laugh, that's some sense of humour 🤣
Well, I think we shouldn't blow our own horns too much about what we did during the 1940s. But thanks - I love pokning fun at the Danes whenever I can :D
