I wish IWC would offer a 43mm version with a power reserve indicator. And also one with dual subdials (power and small seconds hand). And omit the date windows altogether. I have an 8-inch wrist, and even I concede the 46er is a bit unwieldly.
This was one of my early grail watches. Bought one on a cruise excursion many years ago even though i have girly-man wrists. Still find it comfortable and still love wearing it. Sounds like you've come to terms with yours - good for you.
If you still have the watch, can I suggest you trying it with a double-pass NATO strap, as this might improve the wearability if the watch feels a little large. I had a similar issue on a larger watch than the Big Pilot (but same time of watch) and for years avoided wearing it on its leather strap. One day, I changed it to a NATO and the wearing experience was totally different. It didn’t rotate round my wrist or hang or flop about like it did on its leather strap. It almost felt like a smaller watch - I couldn’t believe the change! Consequently, I wear it far more often now. For the sake of as little as £5/$5/€5, you could test it out.
@@Philtalkswatchesandmore Would love to know if this works for you…assuming you still have it. As for the crown, perhaps this could be a watch you get used to wearing on your right hand instead? It’d feel odd to begin with for sure…but would be an interesting way to accommodate the wearability.
Lovely video, though quite sad. I'm grateful for the honesty. I think a lot of people get the IWC out of proportion in their heads. Just bought my first 44mm (not IWC) and really surprised how imposing it is. It doesn't cause any pain or strain which had me thinking about an IWC but this video has bought to my senses. I have a bigger wrist but I also have better things to spend my money on.
Like you, I met my hero the 5002 Big Pilot earlier this year. I wanted it for years and when I finally got it, the charm slowly faded away. I have a 6.75” wrist, and the weight did not bother me as much. The crown however, different story. It dug into my wrist that I had to stop wearing it for a while. After that I realized the 5002 is not for me. I loved looking at it but I like to wear my watches.
The Big Pilot is one of my favourite watches based on aesthetics and movement. I just can’t pull it off on my wrist sadly. I loved my Portuguese 7 Day though, I do regret selling it.
Having a wrist around 7,3 inches of course my 5002 is much better fitting. So in this point I agree witch you, that the watch is a bit too big for your wrist a therefore probably does not look at good as it should be. BUT: If you have a One-Watch-Collection, of course this Every-Day-Watch for 365 days a year should be as comfortable as possible. And even if my 5002 fits great on my wrist, it is (and in cannot be) the most comfortable wrists in my collection. Nevertheless I personally would never ever give it away, because I can change the watches. And, although the 5002 is not the most comfortable watch, there is no need for me to let in the safe. It always will have enough wrist time for me, because it was one of the greatest and iconic watches ever made. I love to look at it so often, even I know the time.
IMHO the 43mm version is the ideal one for normal sized wrists. Now, is it a true BP? Yes and No. Yes because it still has the pedigree and character of the original BP and No because it doesn’t have its size. Having said that its clean design (no date or power reserve indication) brings it much closer to original’s origin and makes it a far more attractive choice. But that’s purely personal.
Rolex is nice bit it is overrated. Talking to few watch repair gents there is better made watches for bit less. Rolex is only a name although their products a good, for the price they are not great.

43mm with the same 5002 design would be perfect !

That’s a great tip! Never thought about that!

Man, I feel your pain. But wise words: “better to have loved and lost…”
The ups and downs is what makes this hobby so enjoyable.
So happy someone understands it and sees it the same way. Thanks for watching !

Beautiful Big Pilot. I am working on a video now on my Big Pilot Transitional. You made a great choice on that Zenith.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Can’t wait to see the video!
Try the 43. I just bought one and love it!
I’m intrigued by another iwc pilot chrono recently 😆

Yep. I’m already regretting it a little…
Comfort is important, especially with watches worn regularly and for lengthy periods of time.

Dude, mr. Horology, this watch looks completely ridiculous on your wrist. Get real.
I love it!
Just too big on your wrist! Everyone has their own taste but too much is too much! Every instruments must balance so creates a perfect music.
Just bought an IWC that fits perfect!
Stay tuned for the video 😎
