Majority of the people who are going towards leaseholding are the ones who can’t afford a multimillion dollar home or rental pricing from gentrification. Thankfully Oahu is still pretty decent and has a great amount of housing on inventory but other places like Maui, Molokai and Kauai are very limited and people can’t get million dollar trap house.
People like myself who have a 800+ credit score and 6 figure salary can’t afford anything here in Maui. Now got a job opportunity to Kauai who is even far worst and now I’m probably going to do a leasehold of $315k with a $1500 monthly for 2bdr condos which is unheard of for any homes in Hawaii on any island
