MisterJonasRouge~ Artists recycle the clay but it is used more for building up bulk for a wall for mold making. WED Clay dries out so quickly, it is already going off while he's sculpting. - John
CustomFig! Just so we're clear, it's LONG alright. This is the PREVIEW. You can watch the full lesson at the link in the description box above. It's more than 2 hours and DON IS AWESOME. Go check it out! -John
Ha! Patrick. You bet I'll pass it on, but... He'll know before I get to him! He's the best. We are honored you keep coming back and thanks for the nice words. -John
Don Lanning is amazing. I have worked in the industry and worked with the school. What they are doing is magical. Listen to the voice over, brilliant. If you want to work in media, the professional lessons shared are priceless. Thank you SWSCA!
If you're mechanically enclined it is ALWAYS better and cheaper to make your own tools, but if you're not..... They sell them at better clay art stores. It's called a "Dragon Scale Tool". I got mine from a place local to me called Chinese Clay Art. They have a website, but for some reason RUclips doesn't want me to post it.
just a humanoid. mostly for a mask that would go over human facial forms. it would be difficult to create a creature that takes away from human facial structures to make a mask, it would require CGI, which at this time period don't look quite right.
just get a ice-pole stick Stanley knife aka box cutter and shape the tip the same as in clip a lot of sculpting tools are handcrafted by guys of this caliber
Damn you StanWinstonSchool! You keep releasing these amazing classes and I have to buy them. Don Lanning is truly amazing and a wonderful teacher. He makes sculpting a monster romantic. He has so much passion in his work and it is really inspiring. (you can tell him I said that)
It's ALWAYS better to make it if oyu can, but if you aren't mechanically inclined you can buy them at one of the better clay art supply stores. They are called "Dragon Scale" tools. I got mine from a shop that's local to me.
There is absolutely zero schools in Toronto that teach sculpting like this...and I thought we were suppose to be hollywood north...i can't wait until someone opens a class like gnome here....:-(

For things such as horns, is there a wire frame that runs under the clay to maintain structural integrity ?
Yes, Yoda Darkness, For longer horns and appendages adding additional armature wire for support is required. -Matt
He's got that magic touch that makes it look so easy and natural, when you know that really it isn't. At least, not for everyone.
