Here's How Much Power $1000 in Performance Mods Gets You! *BMW 335i BUDGET BUILD*

  • Back on the dyno but this time not with the E93, but with the E90. I have massive plans to make my BMW 335i one of the most powerful ones out there but before doing that I wanted to do a budget build. $1000 in performance mods were installed and a mobile tuning app called MHD tuning was used. The results were pretty shocking. The fact that you can make so much power out of the stock twin turbos just shows you how much potential the N54 engine has.

      Just being able to pay for all the repairs on those 335's is my dream... I have a 335ix e90 with the supposedly more reliable n55. It's sitting in my yard awaiting a starter, a charcoal canister (whole evap box really) a headlight and a fog light. Then I can fix the leaking valve cover and do the brakes and other normal wear and tear items that failed in the last 3000 miles 😆. At least my Volvo is cheap and reliable.

      @@ewiouhjohn1707 bought it used for like 22 4 or 5 years ago. I had an e46 before that i got when it was 2 years old and the thing was a rock. I also had an e90 328i that threw a valve going down the road one day. n51. The e9x platform has a lot of issues. Ive been working on euro cars for years and i really like bmw but those e9x's are a bitch to pay for. And i have the "more reliable" n55 in my 335.

    • @magincap70
      @magincap70 3 года назад

      oh and i forgot the worse one of all, my oil pan has a good leak and that requires taking the engine out in the 328, so i would imagine the n55 and n51 have the same issue and that issue means 30 hours to replace a gasket.

    First of all, I love your channel, it's informative, spontaneous and has some good vibes! I been following for a while.
    However I'd like to point something out, something I have see a lot of car youtubers doing. MHD or BM3 are very user-friendly and overall their OTS maps are well designed to work on most cars so this is promoted a lot.. but.. as you also kept pressing: maintenance is vital! And apart from maintenance, every car is different. i.e. when I saw your first pulls I knew immediately it was your hpfp that was going, in your case it came in handy you could swiftly locate the problem and replace the hpfp (and also the lpfp later on), you have the technical support and knowledge.
    My point is, it is strongly preferable for most "normal" people to have some good support near you if you want to use MHD/BM3 so you can log the car after the tune, or even better, have a custom tuner (especially when going further than Stage 1). Most people just flash and drive the car and think everything is all gucci. In your case the fact your car misfired/backfired immediately showed there was something wrong (with the hpfp). The fact is, if you really want to know if your car is really happy with the tune, the car needs to be logged (IAT's, railpressure, timings per cylinder, etc), because unless you do that, you are never sure if the tune is working well with the car (causing potential short or longterm damage). I am sure if you had logged the car even before tuning, you would already have noticed a drop in railpressure and known that the hpfp was not capable to take even more load.
    Again, great thing you kept saying maintenance first, but it is actually even more than that I'd say, logging a car is crucial when tuning! Tuning the car has become (literally) TOO easy with the MHD adapter haha.

      @Tomer Lehr....I think we should be right around 330-340 whp and around 380-390 wtq with the setup I currently have going. There was an article that gave dyno results for each MHD stage with every step up the FBO ladder. Can't find it.

    • @Mcmuffinman414

    • @ferrynpalmer3875
      @ferrynpalmer3875 3 года назад +1

      @Tomer Lehr....the difference is the DP's. They make big power. If we had the DP's on our 1+ tunes we'd be up another 30-40 hp and about the same on the torque. And remember we're talking whp here. So our 340ish whp translates to 400 hp at the crank when accounting for a 15% drive line loss.

    Fantastic N54 content...we appreciate for sure.
    Your HPFP was wear but probably if you would have tried the stage 2+ V9 would haven't error's because v8 maps are fuel based and V9 boost based.
    Anyway, n54 engines are fantastic's. 😀

      V9 maps are beta so I didn't want to use them for that reason.

      @@VehicleVirals beta but launched 1year ago and with extremely positive feedback. But ok...is one valid reason. :)

    8:36 I feel you bro… same with me. it’s a love hate thing with n54’s.. 😭 like I wanna swap my 335i with a 2Jz, RB or LS still
    Not sure cause my n54 is still in healthy condition with just hitting 100k miles and it’s an 07 335i. But I get iffy about pushing it to the limits cause when I do push it. The beautiful thang that pops up at 10:25 tends to say hello. lol

    Engine is getting swapped with all new gaskets, went with 17t turbos and going to wrap it chrome. Wondering if i should do a review 🤔

    All those mods + mhd license is closer to $2000 not $1000, plus you need sparks coils and injectors index 12 in order to run stage 2+ without problems. But clean build bro :) cant wait for the single turbo

    How many gallons of E85 did you add to the 93 to get the “roughly” E30 blend? I have the super license and stage 2 fuel pumps but haven’t tried the blend yet because I don’t wanna get the numbers wrong lol.

    Do you have anything on an N55? I have a 2011 535I rwd. I am pulling the motor to get some head work done, and looking for advice on what should be done while the engine is out

    Damn, I have full bolt on vrsf 535i, including inlets and upgraded stage 2.5 fuel pump. I run stage 2+ e50 blend hitting 20psi. I need to get on a dyno ASAP!! 😬
    How much boost did you hit on e30 blend ??

    Oh by the by FCP Euro has now changed their warranty rules. They no longer do a lifetime on fluids or filters or any regularly maintained type things. Like Coolant or fluids. AS WELL they have changed the way they calculate the warranty "Worth" pricing. Instead of going by the price of the item being returned using the new higher priced product pricing for the return they will use the original price that was paid for the item then deduct that from the new part replacing the original. For EG: If you paid say $350 for a water pump in 2019 and it craps out yesterday (Feb 21, 2024) and the price for that same pump today is $400 you will have to pay the $50 difference to get the new pump. In other words they saw all those profits flying away and just couldn't stand to not make more cash even though it was that very policy that made them the big successful company they are today. On the other hand they are now basically just the same as every other company out there. Maybe there's a difference if you go through a lot of radiators and ten years later you have needed five new radiators it will be a big win for you but ....Meh?!
