    The charticulator is amazing.
    I think the main problem, for beginners like me, is finding a learning path.
    We know that seeing tutorials like this is fantastic and seems relatively easy because whoever presents it, masters the tool.
    We, the initiates, when we try to put it into practice, we feel lost with so many nuances and variables that the charticulator has.
    I don't know if it exists, but it would be, in my view, essential a course, step by step, for anyone who wants to start in charticulator.

    Thank you so much for the great session!
    This, by FAR, is the best Charticulator video I have ever seen. It's eye opener and inspires a lot of great ideas.
    Much appreciated 👏👏👏

    Very helpful. I did have trouble with the Top/Bottom/Left/Right labels in that i could not control the visibility and all were rendered. So, at the moment, I have one value label I want to keep and 3 of "0.0" that i do not want to keep.

    This is amazing - thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. Would there be a way in charticulator to create a KPI that sums all the months - basically acting like the native card visual in Power BI without the need for the 'Is end month?' filter?

  • @vladsamoilov9905

    Awesome video, thanks Daniel and Reid for sharing. Really helpful step by step guide. Quick question - how easy is it to modify Charticulator visual? For example replace measures on a left (numerical) side or remove chart on the right.

      At any time in desktop you can go back and edit the charticulator visual if you ever need to make changes to it :)

    Great job Havens! I tried applying the charticulator following this video, and one thing that I noticed was that the chart I built has not gotten filtered by another chart. Is this right or is there a feature that I need to turn on? Just to highlight, all the interactivity from the charticulator were turned on and kept how it is.

    • @HavensConsulting

      They should communicate by default (native visuals / charticulator) so I'd be curious to know how the model setup looks.

      I believe the only way to do that would be converting it to a text string using the FORMAT function in DAX

    Q1: how can i make end of month measure with logical Yes and No.
    Q2: how you convert values in millions digits.

      I'm not sure if you've obtained the workbook from Reid's links, but this will allow you to have a look at my approaches to to visual in a bit more detail. I think it may do a better job of answering your questions than I can manage on a RUclips comment, but I'll have a try:
      ===
      1.
      ===
      Whilst this is covered in the video, the `Part II: Card Initial` tab in the sample workbook is where you can explore further. But to break this down:
      Firstly, I created a measure to calculate the latest 'visible' month in my dataset. I have a column in my date table called [Month Start] so that any dates are 'snapped' to this for aggregation purposes:
      MAXX( ALLSELECTED( 'Date' ), 'Date'[Month Start] )
      This will give me the date value I need to check for later on. This measure is called `Latest Visible Month Start` in the workbook.
      Secondly, I create a measure to check this date against the current row context and return a 'Y' if they match:
      VAR LatestDate =
      [Latest Visible Month Start]
      VAR ThisDate =
      MAX( 'Date'[Month Start] )
      RETURN
      SWITCH( TRUE(), ThisDate = LatestDate, "Y", "N" )
      This measure is named `Is End Month?` in the workbook. This is the one I add to the Charticulator visual to use for conditional checks.
      ===
      2.
      ===
      I created a measure in my model that divides by 1 million and added to Charticulator's dataset. This measure is named `$ Sales (Millions)` in the workbook.
      Alternatively, if you want to work with a raw value, you can take a look at www.burningsuit.co.uk/blog/2021/07/charticulator-in-power-bi-9/ to learn more about how to format the measure within Charticulator. For millions, I believe that this format specifier would be:
      {.0s}
      Note the small 's' - the 0 is to indicate 0 decimal places, so you could change this. As D3 formatting syntax uses SI units, it uses 'G' for million, so you may want to suffix this with an 'M' instead, or divide the measure by 1 million and then format. Something like the following would work:
      ${avg(`$ Sales`) / 100000}{,.0f}M
      Note that the math needs do be done within the first set of braces, as this represents the expression to evaluate in the formatter (second set of braces).
      I personally opted to do this as the `$ Sales (Millions)` measure, as it was easier for me to manage in my data model. It also meant that I would not need to change much inside Charticulator if I decided I wanted to scale or format differently.

    Dear please tell me. How can I add ➕ sign before positive value

    • @dm-p
      @dm-p 3 года назад +1

      Hi Kabir - in this case, you add a '+' to the beginning of format specifier in the text mark's text property (between the second set of curly braces. This can be seen in the sample workbook (if you've downloaded it from Reid's resources), but an example would be:
      ${avg(`% Sales MoM`)}{+.1%}
      Format specifiers use the same syntax as D3.js, which is what a lot of web-based visuals use. There is an excellent Power BI-centric walkthrough on this available at:
      www.burningsuit.co.uk/blog/2021/07/charticulator-in-power-bi-9/
      (I'd also recommend the whole series of posts - Alison has an excellent approach to learning and documenting Charticulator)

    For some reason, when I publish my report with a Charticulator visual, the visual won't render. If I start editing it in the web editor, Charticulator is nowhere to be found as a visual type. Are there any permissions that need to be enabled by PBI admin for this?
    Also if I try to Export from the PBI desktop, I'm getting "Download unavailable" error message. Has anyone faced a problem like this?

    • @HavensConsulting
      @HavensConsulting  2 года назад

      Hmm, they're working when I publishing them. Has there been any mention of this on the Power BI community forums?

    • @VladMZ
      @VladMZ 2 года назад

      @@HavensConsulting Strangely enough, the visual started working the very next day. Could be some visual caching or something, because I bet I'm the first one on our capacity to use tickulator visual :) All I did was I recreated the visual on the ch website and exported it as a custom visual file. When I published the report with the new custom visual, I noticed that the original Ch visual works as well. Weird.
      Another thing is that I made a nested chart by exporting template from ch web and importing it in desktop. Now when I edit the nested chart in desktop, I can save it and export as a template. But the outer grid visual cannot be exported - still getting the same "Download unavailable" error.
      Nevertheless, Charticulator is awesome! I spend my holiday break learning it, as I need to make one of my KPI reports more dynamic. Last year I had a fixed number of KPI's so I achieved what I wanted with static standard visuals, but now I needed more, and instead of trying to copy paste, I rebuilt my page as a Ch visual. It works so much better and faster for some reason, although the number of queries a still the same. My page is a grid of square cards that looks like the periodic system, where each square has KPI name, target, current score (reflected as a color of the square, too), and a small bar chart to see how the KPI trended to the current score withing the last 6 months. The only thing I couldn't figure out is adding a flat line to the bar chart that represents the KPI target, because I don't know how to sync the scales of Y axis on 2 separate plot segments.

      Hi Kabir - Reid and I recorded the video and provided the workbook in order to walk through the concept and break things down into smaller chunks so that interested creators could review and work along at their convenience. These questions are addressed in some detail already in the video, and you can explore the data model and download the workbook to drill into these concepts further if you want to look into them. If your use case matches the visual exactly, you could export the Charticulator template and apply to your own reports with minimal changes :)
      If you require more guided assistance, I am happy to provide this via consulting services. Please reach out to me via the contact details on my website - www.coacervo.co - and we can discuss rates and how I can possibly assist you in a more dedicated manner, or produce a similar visual using your data.
      If you are still unsure how to address these challenges after reviewing the video and workbook, but are not keen to engage my services, I would still be keen to receive your feedback so that I can deliver these kinds of sessions better in future. Similarly, please feel free to reach out via the contact details on my site. All the best, Daniel
