Suzi and I loved watching the video. Nothing on TV excited us so the moment you put the video up we’re on to it. A beauty tuna. May there be many more. By the time you get home to NZ you’ll be an expert boat captain, handy electrician, a techy marine specialist and a fishing guru. All the best for safe journeys as you head in to Winter. Stay safe.
Hmm looking at it again, the Dorsel fin is not long enough for yellow, unless it’s a juvenile. If it had a yellow streak down the middle, defo a yellow fin, otherwise blue. Hopefully your bud that gave you the lours will be able to identify. Good eating though
I can't thank you enough for sharing your travels. When i get a notification of a new video I can't wait to get home from work, make a cup of tea and send down to the next installment.
Thanks so much we so enjoy making each episode and most of all love the comments and feedback we get. Means a lot to us that our viewers enjoy each episode. Much more to come.
What a nice tour of the coast of Sicily ! And nice to see Cefalu from the waterfront. What a great fisk you got there, some battle to get it onto the boat.... Hope you got your stabilizer sorted, even though the water and the seas were magnificent , Thank you for a wonderful episode...
Hi Mark and Fi, another great vlog - good to see your new 3rd and 4th ‘mates’ being put to good use. They look back ‘at home’ on the briney! Cheers A👍🇳🇿❤️
Getting one as soon as I get to a marine shop which seem to be few and far between where I go…too touristy. On my way to Corsica then Antibes and on to Spanish Coast. Making good progress while the weather holds up.
That’s how you do it, Mark! You will be catching them all the time now, you got to hold your mouth just right. Glad to see Fiona feeling better and glad she made it back out this time, sounded like she might be staying in NZ upon returning to Blossom Valley.
Well, a double congratulations to you. First of course on winning, or better keeping, the America's Cup. Was a very impressive way to win the series. Guess the champagne tasted great for you guys. And second of course you first fish. From now on many should follow. Not sure the fish will be happy with that though. And must say you have absolutely beautiful weather during your travels. I did see a familiar back ground passing by. This part of Sicily was used in the Italian television series 'Montelbano'. Can highly recommend that series, it is about a police commissioner, Montelbano, who works in the imaginary city of Figata. And they use the most beautiful spots of Sicily as a back ground.
Yes we won eh? I just hope NZ sees sense and financially supports the regatta coming home. Very likely depends on how much time before the next challenge. The benefits to NZ would be enormous. Tourism was our No.1 earner before Covid and we need to get back to that as it makes our country hum. There is so much promotion that could be a part of any package provided and what a country to promote. The Northern Sicilian Coast is so beautiful. Absolutely helped with the magic weather. Currently on the Amalfi Coast and weather not so nice and what a difference that makes. The Tuna was magic, so tasty and it’s a fish I have never liked so now am a convert.
Gosh you are cruising in such charming places. Cefalu looked delightful. You have also had such a run of splendid weather! I keep reading about scary winds in the Med that come up quite suddenly but your cruising has been in ideal, placid conditions. When do you plan to head for France to meet your new-found friends? I think the coast along Portugal and the Bay of Biscay will be getting awfully rough as winter approaches. Great video, enjoyed thoroughly.
Yip we have been very lucky. Coming from New Zealand I am used to adverse weather and understand it pretty well. What’s new for me is tides and currents so got some study and careful consideration of those to do
I thought what finally going to happen was a full episode without any faults on the boat. I’m well aware of that boat always breaks down sooner or later. But I’m impressed by how relaxed you are with the high amount of failures you have had on a new boat. Really great fish though👍
stunning Mark, spend 3 nights on Lipari in another life (3wks around Sicily in an 2.0 Alfa 147 for honeymoon). great spot, safe watch. Best to Fi and crew. (some great restaurants in Cefalu, just on the left of the pier as you shot the harbour on approach))
How cool. Yip great places eh. Have struggled to find what I would call good classic Italian food. My favourite restaurant in SFO got it just right. Here too much fish and too small and meat is very average. Maybe need to go to central/north Italy for classic Italian?
@@AwanuiNZ Need to eat with a local and take the pain of insulting them with lack of sea food... Veal is usually the best and the stuffed pastas or risottos.. remember its "poor mans food.." south of rome
The Tuna has been wonderful. Tried it thinly sliced with lemon juice and coated in sesame seed lightly fried in a pan. I have never enjoyed Tuna but now love it!! Sicily is amazing.
Nice fish. Nice you were able to keep the lucky lure too.! Fantastic weather. Those stabilizers were never right and are still a problem. My Dad said men should never own boats, horses, cars or planes because they are money pits. He was right of course but I've been sailing since i was 14 thanks to the the Explorer Scouts that taught my Twin and I sailing, knots, lingo, navigation and seamanship - everything you needed. With my new hip at 72, it is time to switch to motor sailing, Maybe around the world single handed is the last thing on the bucket list to do. You have inspired me. I think an Archipelago 44, Aluminum, Cass A, Explorer Catamaran made in England would be perfect. What do you think? It too would be a a very close to first hull boat too. A million Dollars US is about all I can swing money wise.
I hope Fiona feels better soon also it looks like mark caught a soviet Caspian sea monster ha ha just a joke I hope it's a big fish I'm watching it right now
Hey Mark, congratulations on an awesome tuna and the first fish on the boat. So glad to see the lures I sent work so well for you. Can’t wait to see you pull some more Fish on the deck, one thing I have to say you like to do things different catching a fish from the top is not a easy task to do good work Mate. Are you heading back to Greece? I’m heading over that way in three weeks.
Hey Dave cool eh? Heading from Italy across to Corsica then Baleric Islands and southern Spain. Leaving Italy maybe 3 or 4 November. Oh how we would love to go back to Greece…we miss it.
Slight change of plans. Corsica then Antibes to pick up control box for starboard stabiliser and to carry out some routine maintenance. Will head down Spanish Coast after that.
can you dive under the boat and check your port stabilizer for anything bound around it, or did i miss the part where you fixed it? fishing from the flybridge seems crazy but you made it work.
Did not think of something around the stabiliser….will check thanks. Only reason we fish from up there is because that’s where we all sit and operate from. Need someone specifically down in the rear cockpit if fishing from there which is difficult when it can take a whole day to get a bite!
Well we had hoped for less but then we had no previous experience with a first hull. I have learnt so much about the boat which has been great. Really no issues from my end
@@AwanuiNZ, here’s one way to look at it. At least with things going wrong, you’re learning how to fix things, that otherwise you wouldn’t have the opportunity to learn if things didn’t break.
