    I am a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan, and this series broke my heart. We battled the Blue Jays all season and came up on top, should have beat the Twins, but they got hot at exactly the right time. I was 10 years old, and after this game, I couldn’t watch anymore, because I knew we were going to lose. I think we stole game 4, but I knew we were doomed….been mad at the Twins ever since 😅

    I love that little moment at 1:05:42 here with Costas and Kubek with the homer hanky and Costas trying to put the hanky on Kubek's head. Their dynamic in the booth was almost like Kubek was the big brother and Costas was the little brother. Kubek was a mentor of sorts to Costas, I think, in his early days at NBC. Wasn't above gentle admonishes though--apparently there was one incident where Costas made the mistake of bringing up the play in the '60 World Series where Kubek was hit in the Adam's Apple by a bad hop grounder--which apparently he was quite sensitive about and didn't like to talk about. When Costas brought it up on the air, supposedly put a hand on Costas's thigh to stop him--didn't want to make it clear on the air but made an unseen gesture saying--"nope, don't go there!" But this was a great partnership, no question.

    The Tigers were coming in red hot after overtaking the Blue Jays for the AL East division title during the last weekend of the season, while the Twins lost their last 5 entering the postseason but had already clinched the West the week before. The Tigers were obviously heavily favored....and then the Twins' Gary Gaetti slammed a pair of Home Runs off of Detroit's Doyle Alexander in Game 1....and the rest is history.

    Doyle Alexander at times was down right nasty. He ended his career with 194 wins to 174 losses, he definitely bounced from club to club even pitching for my Baltimore Orioles. Just to think one year later Kirk Gibson would be a Dodger and he would hobble off the bench in the bottom of ninth to hit that epic home run off HOF Dennis Eckersley to send the Dodgers to a game 1 victory in the '88 World Series, what a nice career he had as well.

Instead of catering to those who currently do not watch, why not leave it alone for the one's who have always enjoyed. to many teams make the playoff's instant replay runner at second base without earning it, make it go away and back to game that it used to be

    • @paulsonj72

    • @ADEAL918
      @ADEAL918 4 года назад +1

      John Paulson it's VERY rare that giving up a prospect for a proven player comes back to haunt the team that gave up the prospect. Normally those kinds of trades are highway robbery because just by simple odds most of even the greatest prospects don't ultimately turn out as hoped. But Smoltz for Alexander is definitely a rare exception.

      @@ADEAL918 In 1989 the Twins made a trade that got them a prospect who had a good career and helped them win the 1991 World Series. They traded Frank Viola to the Mets and got four pitchers, three of whom made the major leagues and two who had good careers. Rick Aguilera was the proven pitcher they got and they also got Kevin Tapani, David West and Jack Savage. Savage never made the big leagues and West was so so in his career but Tapani and Aguilera had good careers for the Twins.

      @@paulsonj72 The year before in '86 the Mets were originally slated to have homefield advantage for the NLCS but the Astrodome in Houston was unavailable for Games 3-4-5 in Houston because the NFL's Houston Oilers were playing at home that weekend so they switched it up so that the Astros wound up hosting the 1st two games instead of the Mets.
