I started driving construction company vans and trucks as a teenager back in 1962, my first mounts were a Ford Thames 15 cwt van and A Thames Trader working from sites around West Ham London. Later in life the company bought a Morris fleet of 13 Travellers, 3 5cwt vans, two 15cwts and 2, 5 tonners. Not a bad shopping list for some lucky salesman. These were employed constructing the Victoria Line Tube. The next job was under the Severn/Wye rivers, so I jumped in the plant yards ERF 7 tonner made in the late 50s and journeyed from London to Chepstow hauling site equipment. Now this is READ country and the brothers' fleets of ERFs were everywhere. Watts the local Leyland truck dealer and tyre maker.
Hoveringhams had a quarry and tarmac plant up in the Forest of Dean so loads of there trucks around.
There were so many other names that have rung bells, BRS were still running and would fill carparks in Gloucester for their overnight B&B, no sleeper cabs in those days.
My longest run was Pinewood Studious Bucks to the Valley of the Kings Egypt. Driving a fully fitted Fiat 5-ton kitchen. To feed the crew making the 007 film The Spy Who Loved Me.
Often spoke with Roger Moore as my brother looked after the white Volvo car used in the Saint. Oh, the good old days when we could lend a hand at everything and still have 5 fingers on each hand.
The ERF I drove was part exchanged for a Leyland with Watts of Gloucester and the ERF has been restored in the grey livery of Chas Brand and Sons. Civil Engineers. 33 Welbeck St. London. I have a photo but can't find the new owner to share my story with.
Thanks for putting the vid up, you've stirred my old brain to some happy memories.

Used to see loads of Scammell 8 wheeler tippers, on the walk to school, daily, back in the 80s. ARC, RMC (Hall aggregates). Saw A.J. Bull trucks, There was a bypass, being built then, loads of M. Matthews, they had DAFs. Seemed like thousands, at that time, that was in Horsham. Then I moved to Worthing, and it was all Gamble, or F&G Plant trucks.

I particularly remember from my boyhood Leyland Reivers, Leyland Bisons and Scammel Routemans.
The most memorable though, were the Commer TS3s and Dodge 500s which both sounded and looked fantastic. Especially if the exhaust was a bit worse for wear.

When I started years ago, one of the trucks I drove was and old L reg Foden eight legger, had a 180 Gardener coupled to a crash David Brown splitter/range change, I had to go through twelve gears to get up to 30 mph when she was loaded with aggregate! That's back when truck drivers were made outta clay!

I drove a 7ton ERF with a 5 pot Gardener coupled to a bastard crash box. I was told count three lamp posts and slip it into the next gear. Try that out in the country the bloody lamp posts are miles apart.
I met a Gardener brother out in the Spain, and he said the 5 pots were used to tow trailers. There was a brake leaver on the passenger side for the trailer boy to use.

These trucks are what I understand. I've been a lorry driver for 34 years (Yep. Man, boy, now woman!) and these pictures take me back to a simpler life. Why ?

What the problem with tipper fleet from north Lincolnshire like Colin Booth from Barton on Humber and 2 or 3 tipper fleets around Scunthorpe and surrounding area when you done your video on Guy big J's you only had a token photo of Febbres from chipping sodbury these companies in area's I've worked in and nothing on them if I had any photos I would of sent them to you But Bristol and North Lincolnshire are getting a bad wrap from you, what you do is good but your missing some very good companies.
