Are Henna Tattoos Safe?

- Henna tattoos are popular with celebrities but are they safe? Emma Evans' right hand erupted in blisters after she got a henna tattoo at a popular shop in Virginia Beach. Her hand felt like it “was on fire,” she told Inside Edition. She sought treatment and was told she had third-degree chemical burns. A month later, 6-year-old Peyton Knauer got a temporary henna tattoo at the same shop, but red, raised marks soon appeared on his skin. When Inside Edition went to the shop, the artist hid. #InsideEdition

I've had Henna many times before, you're supposed to treat them like you would a normal tattoo, and if you've never had one before you have to tell the artist so they can test your skin for a reaction first.
Growing up in all-Arab family henna was a part of most of our traditions. My mother use to use henna on my sisters' hands, but she would always remind my sisters to never use black henna because of the damages it can cause. She also said to never put it on your face. One day my sister decided to not listen to my mother and went and used black henna for her wedding, the next day she broke out in blisters and a rash. She had had a scar for 2 months because of it.

I’ve never seen black henna ink used before. The ones I have gotten in the past were made using brown, red, or orange ink. My brother nearly went to this store when we went to Virginia Beach a few years back but decided against it because it was really hot out. Thank goodness he decided against it bc I know for a fact he would have chosen the black ink option.
What do you mean?
Oh wow I actually live in va bea CA
Hi there-I’m someone who used to work as a henna artist in my college years. I noticed a pattern where untrained jerks mess people up with black henna. Even trained people make mistakes with them. Our store’s policy was to NEVER EVER use black pigmented henna just in case.
We always recommend you get the brown henna. Brown henna looks better when bleeding into the skin too, anyway

It isn't a true henna ; it is industrialized. It has chemicals. The real henna is made of plant.you should always buy henna overseas which it is originated from India , turkey, and many middle eastern countries such as Pakistan, Somalia, yemen, and Egypt .
I figured it had to be something like that. People should do a patch test to make sure they aren't allergic anyway, to _anything_ they've never put on anyway.
Yes but from India it sells the real one I buy the tube one

I do henna and I've done my research. Any pigmented henna (that isn't a natural brownish color) tends to have some type of chemical in it. Even when I'm using my henna, I always tell my client that if it ever feels tingling or burning, to let me know because the client may be allergic to it without knowing. I haven't had anyone experience any of these but it is always good to say it before any henna service.
As a professional henna artist, this made me so angry! THIS. IS. NOT. REAL. HENNA!!!! What causes reactions is black henna. Notice how Beyonce's is orange, not black (also, it hadn't oxidized yet). And Ariana's was "white henna" which is just body paint that doesnt stain the skin, thus, also not real henna!

My mom and everyone in my family and in my culture only gets henna for weddings or special events, and I'm not allowed to get it yet, because it's a tradition for weddings if you're getting married, or if you're like a bridesmaid or flower girl, so that sucks.
