My mom's cousin was the executive assistant to the president at ISU during Bird's tenure. She always said that Larry had an odd, yet funny, relationship to the university. Like, he sent a janitor to get his diploma from the president who wanted to personally hand it to Larry. Not surprised that he hasn't engaged with the team recently.
