Glen, I started watching your show again after a long time and I really missed your ascerbic, humourous wit and hearing your take on various music topics. Luvit! One of the best shows on YT.
Hey Glen, it's honest and knowledgeable people like you that have helped me to progress as a musician throughout my life. THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing what you've learned so people like myself being a very experienced musician while being a relative new-comer to producing my own stuff.

I appreciate your humble nature, Glenn. While we don’t see eye to eye on everything, that’s cool. Met you on the shuttle bus at GearFest last year, thanks for just being a nice guy and having a conversation.

Glen....I was at a band rehearsal a few weeks ago and I sucked sweaty balls because I hadn’t practiced. I woodshedded for a few hours and strangely enough I suddenly improved 200%! See...some of us bass players listen to you!
Hey Glen, so many great quotes in there, my favourite being "The wise man is snarky and unlikable, the fool is likable and broke". Hey Glenn, just popping in to say I love you and don't ever stop doing what you do. The world is a better place with real peeps like you. Keep up the good work!
It's always amusing/interesting listening to the venom people spew online. I take the channel for what it is - the experience of one person who's been doing the work for a lot of years. Getting that additional "behind the board" perspective has definitely helped when I've gone into the studio as far as making sure I'm not making the engineers life more difficult than it already is.
200 episodes and you run with the butthurt musicians/engineers. Love it Glenn!! Don't always agree with you, but love the humor as well as information you provide. It appears that some people have no sense of humor. Keep rolling Glenn! And by the way, when someone says Iron Maiden sucks, … it's hard to take anything else they say seriously!!
Sounds like attack of the Fuzzy Nuts Gang. Don't worry, when they finally drop and get more woolly, their tune will change. Cheers Glen...keep up the good work.
Honestly this guys channel has helped me correct so many bad habits I didn't know I had as a musician going into studio. Been worthwhile lessons in valuing your engineer.
I love that you looks like a grizzly bear but i'm sure that you are a cute teddy bear inside. Continue what you doing. Cheers (Sorry if i made mistakes but i'm french so...you know)
So glad to see this channel thriving. Glenn your disposition towards bass players made me get off my ass and get the FUCK to practicing! 4 years later and I'm still growing as a musician. Thanks for the inspiration! Keep it up!
Great channel, I'm not even in a band or in the engineering business and this channel is very interesting and entertaining to watch. Don't change a thing. It says something about how good the channel is when off topic people tune in to watch.
A few points as to why people are stupid: 1. Most of us get Into music and recording for the love of the art, money is secondary. 2. It doesn't matter who you've worked with to validate your talent, or experience. 3. Yes, there are multiple sources online, if you don't like one, watch the others instead. 4. If you don't agree with a youtubers opinion, that's ok, they are talking from THIER personal experience and is simply advice...you don't have to take it if you would rather produce the same regurgitated metal we get album after album then fine! Some of us don't want to download misha's axe fx patch and have our guitars sound like every other band out there ( not a shot a Misha, he seems like a cool and knowledgeable dude ) 5. Auto tune sucks! Get some talent you fucking hacks ;)
To add to no. 1, most of them do it for the insufferable rock star fantasy experience. Many musicians genuinely seem to act as if it's optional to put in extra effort into being a musician. "We're making music, maaaaan! That's all that matters!" seems to be their mindset.
I’m an engineer from Salinas, Puerto Rico The main genre in my area is Raggaeton and Trap, which heavily utilizes auto tune So i have it in my studio, i have grown to see autotune and other midi instruments as useful last resort tools HOWEVER if i had it my way I would never use autotune to “fix vocals” And i would use strictly live instruments
Using Autotune or Melodyne doesn't diminish your skills as an engineer. I mean it's ultimately the band decision and lack of ability, not yours. At this point it's almost a trademark for certain genres, some people want that sound. But in Rock and Metal, it's sacrilege.
I'm a videographer/editor/gfx designer and Glen's rants speak to my soul even though I'm not in audio hahah. The wannabe rappers wanting to make music videos of them smoking with their friends swaying back and forth behind them like it's never been done to clients who feel they deserve a discount because they shit gold..I have no patience for boring tutorials either......you speak to me sir, congrats!
I love all the butt hurt people complaining about Glen. But thanks to him, a lot of musicians/engineers are better off thanks to his advice. If you don't like him don't watch the fucking videos?! Keep it all up Glen, love your videos 🤘
I can totally get on board with that. I have no where the amount of years as you do in experience, but once you know where a couple of bumps are on the road, people get offended if you try to save them that incident. I know you don't care about those rants, but to me you still are one of the guys to stay tuned to. Always speak with the truth.
I just don't think "Maiden" and "sucks" belong in the same sentence together. I can understand if it's not someone's taste. But yea. Mediocrity and Maiden are pretty much polar opposites.
I know your sponsor is just a small part of your video , but I wanted to chime in that I have had nothing but awesome experiences with AMS. One time in particular I ordered a Korg K61 MIDI keyboard that had a dead key. I started a return for exchange, and they actually sent me another keyboard BEFORE I sent the defective one back. The replacement still works some 12 years later. GREAT company!
Show me a man without enemies and I'll show you a man who never stood up for anything. As a beacon of light in a sea of bullshit, you glow brighter when people throw shade. Keep it up Glenn and best wishes from Scotland.

Confidence in yourself & holding your head up can negate any negative bullshit with which people will TRY to drag you down.
Also the 'losers' actually focused on stuff that was important such as grades and a decent work ethic rather than being cool. There is time for a social life once you have a decent paying job etc.
1234, the losers are the ones who feel the need to belittle others. It is indicative of personal problems they fail to deal with.
Congratulations on 200 SMG Viewer Comments episodes Glen.
Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge, experience, your honesty and realism with us.
I appreciate all of the honesty and nitty gritty truthfulness, it is absolutely needed.
Love your work, Glenn. Guys like you are keeping the fire of metal music alive and burning bright.
"A good man has a few enemies. A ruthless man has none."
Keep doing what you do, Glenn!
Cheers from a fellow Ontarian
I'm from Canada, and I haven't heard about AAS till now
I wish I still hadn't.
If you haven't checked out one of their videos then don't.
yeah don't do it it's horrible.
1:45 was one of the hardest come backs in the whole video. Boi needs some icy-hot for that one.
This guy is the spirit of metal in physical form.
I wish all metalheads were as genuin and charismatic as you are.
Cheers from Texas✌
I like your channel dude, you're honest with us, honest about yourself. You're funny most of the time, and you're informative. You make me laugh and you teach me, who needs more than that?
Jeez man. I find your attitude against these comments very funny. But at the same time, I can't help to feel sick to my stomach with all the toxicity towards you. Keep going strong and here's to many more episodes!
You should see the smack they write about him on reddit. Makes the ones on RUclips look lice civil discourse.
This is my first time on your channel and I have to say, I absolutely love your attitude and approach to these comments. You've easily earned my sub
8:15 Autotune is awesome, because Rembrandt’s work would’ve been much better if it was photoshopped.
Gratz Glenn! And thank you so much!
Thanks so much, Atlas!

Aaaah Glenn, you rock dude ! Keep destroying these wastes of food and air 🤘
Man, I loooove your channel! I've spent 30 years recording pop, jazz and classical and you're telling like it is. It's so much fun to hear your perspectives and observe your technique.
I appreciate your humble nature, Glenn. While we don’t see eye to eye on everything, that’s cool. Met you on the shuttle bus at GearFest last year, thanks for just being a nice guy and having a conversation.
I decided after you said not to trust my headphones you were absolutely right.I went out and bought Makies right away
Thanks for all your help.
Congrats on 200 episodes man, here's to another 200!
thank you very much! I sure hope you guys stick around for another 200!
@@SpectreSoundStudios Hope you can put up with us for a LOT longer than just 200 more !
@@SpectreSoundStudios wright today was my
got up on the wrong side the bed day...but not having been to sleep days..
Ew someone from abandon all ships was bitching at you? Grooooss.
Also congrats on episode 200, dude.
I love the answer at 2:39. It's a great explanation of what this channel is trying (and succeeding) to do. Honestly, I think it's great to see someone who followed what they enjoy doing and making a career out of it. Good for you, Glenn!
There aren't many RUclipsrs I admire or feel inspiration from in the way you lead yourself, your content and the response to viewers, products, and experiences. I admire the confidence you breathe and bleed, I feel the fearlessness. We are very lucky to be alive when you are, to share space with you on the interwebs and absorb learning from something you are so passionate about. You make learning fun, laughable, and have us think about things: "You might want to do _________, but it DEPENDS on what you are going for."
Glen....I was at a band rehearsal a few weeks ago and I sucked sweaty balls because I hadn’t practiced. I woodshedded for a few hours and strangely enough I suddenly improved 200%! See...some of us bass players listen to you!
I hate it when my wood sheds !
@@gilbertspader7974 it will refill.
So I looked it up, and woodshedding means practising? I've never heard that term before
Batphink Reynolds I know that's what scares me !

As long as you TURN ME UP I'm fine with shitty 16th notes, but if you turn me down, you better believe I'm slapping!
Hey Glen, so many great quotes in there, my favourite being "The wise man is snarky and unlikable, the fool is likable and broke". I've just passed the 5-year mark with the recording of my first proper solo album, my producer is my old metal bandmate and friend from school. There will be no autotune on my record! I'd love to send you a copy when it's ready to say thanks for all the content I've watched of yours. Keep weeding out the idiots. And telling them not to be shit. Some people just don't get it.
I really enjoy your producing tutorials. To someone who has been playing music for a while, but just recently gotten serious about production, your advice has helped me SO much. Thanks!
Just checked out Abandon All Ships and just about died laughing when they started squatting in unison. Uffda
Glen the man! Yaay!
Congrats, 200th episode sir!
Forget them haters!
That one "robotic" dude lost it, haha! I bet he's fun at parties. Anyway, Glenn, I love your content and view it is very informative satire. Keep it up!
People have got a problem with you.. you must be doing something right
Keep it up Glen, you rock
James Black cheers for taking the time
200 episodes and you run with the butthurt musicians/engineers. Love it Glenn!! Don't always agree with you, but love the humor as well as information you provide. It appears that some people have no sense of humor. Keep rolling Glenn! And by the way, when someone says Iron Maiden sucks, … it's hard to take anything else they say seriously!!
Thanks, Chuck! Much appreciated!
Dude not in the metal scene but damn you are spot on and damn good at what you do really appreciate your hard work here. Thank you
I love that you looks like a grizzly bear but i'm sure that you are a cute teddy bear inside.
Continue what you doing. Cheers
(Sorry if i made mistakes but i'm french so...you know)
That's pretty good English .Looks should be look other than that perfect ! !!
8:10 I had to pause the video cause I couldn't stop laughing. Oh my god dude :D
for me it was 7:27 :D
Nah, just keep doing what you have been doing the whole time.
As long as Tie-wearing Glenn never resurrects....
On boring RUclips days I sorta miss business suit/bail hearing Glenn
That persona is perfect for a fearless gear review that needs to be as sarcastic and ironic as possible.
I'd watch that purely for the comedy.
Nice pfp, I love the Division Bell
@@montychristo86 dude that's a very fucked up thing to say. Guess you've never had a friend hang themselves, believe me it's nothing to joke about.
I LOVED THE TIE!!!!! So Mormon so......Glenn do a conversion Video. From Tie to Metal.
A few points as to why people are stupid:
Some of us don't want to download misha's axe fx patch and have our guitars sound like every other band out there ( not a shot a Misha, he seems like a cool and knowledgeable dude )
The Pee Wee's Big Adventure quote at the end of the last one had me rolling.
I’m an engineer from Salinas, Puerto Rico
The main genre in my area is Raggaeton and Trap, which heavily utilizes auto tune
So i have it in my studio, i have grown to see autotune and other midi instruments as useful last resort tools
HOWEVER if i had it my way I would never use autotune to “fix vocals”
And i would use strictly live instruments
Using Autotune or Melodyne doesn't diminish your skills as an engineer. I mean it's ultimately the band decision and lack of ability, not yours. At this point it's almost a trademark for certain genres, some people want that sound. But in Rock and Metal, it's sacrilege.
Morir Auto tune todos . MORTIFICAR !!!!!
Good stuff haha... I will say, as an isolated musician, with no friends here(in Montana) your advice has been a huge help. Much respect here \,,/
Outrage and anger are the hallmark responses to truth, honesty, and real talk. Keep doin what youre doin brudda..
yiiikes that asking alexandria comment was maximum cringe
A rant King Joffery would have been proud of.
im startin to wonder if that was a troll comment.
jssycamore Asking Alexandria is maximum cringe at this point!
Seriously what happened to those guys? I was never a huge fan but their new stuff.....what had even happened???
l laughed and laughed, l am old school and this is so cool. lol
"This guy makes me unusually violent"
Nope. That person is just a pansy
The kind of kid who gets mad and breaks his own toys. Never been in a scrap in his whole life, but acts tough online. Almost hilarious!
Woah! Those comments are unbelievable! Never change Glen. Great channel. Very informative.
Dude you rock and I enjoy l enjoy your channel.
Thanks, Gerry!
>move out of mothers basement, and get a girlfriend
>is a homeowner and has been married for X years
I love all the butt hurt people complaining about Glen. But thanks to him, a lot of musicians/engineers are better off thanks to his advice. If you don't like him don't watch the fucking videos?!
Keep it all up Glen, love your videos 🤘
Exactly...he is very knowledgeable and entertaining
I can totally get on board with that. I have no where the amount of years as you do in experience, but once you know where a couple of bumps are on the road, people get offended if you try to save them that incident. I know you don't care about those rants, but to me you still are one of the guys to stay tuned to.
Always speak with the truth.
Love you Glen! You're amazing! Thank you for all you do, you deserve all the success that comes your way!
6:30 MY BRAIN HURTS
ps Abandon All Ships? More like Abandon All Shits.
Abandon all musicianship.
seriously!?! i thought i heard "maiden sucks" ill bet that was a comment from a bassplayer that failed at playing steve harris lines...
I just don't think "Maiden" and "sucks" belong in the same sentence together. I can understand if it's not someone's taste. But yea. Mediocrity and Maiden are pretty much polar opposites.
A rant worthy of King Joffery.
selling a lot of records doesn't make your music good either, just look at the trash on the radio
