Mr TD ,there are some viewers like me who want to see these aspects of life rather than 5* Life styles , today you really gained a lot of appreciations showing rickshaw puller''s struggle in Kolkata, sametime , I request to W.Bengal government kindly forbid that practice of pulling and make efforts to shift those guys who pull rickshaw to another jobs.
Fyip, WB Govt has stopped giving licenses for hand pulled rickshaws. Few years back Govt had offered alternative livelihood proposal to handful of existing such rickshaw men but they denied the offer
Government has stopped issuing license And they even offered alternate jobs for these pullers, but they denied coz they r seasonal rickshaw pullers. Most of them r farmers in rural bengal/bihar and they come to the city after harvest for extra income
They say Bengal is a poor state, what they don't say is Bengalis help each other like no one else, most equality is served in Bengal. Yes its' a poor state, but happier than rich states. Poor people get free education, free healthcare, free food and everything costs lesser here.

This type of rickshaw is also available is Tokyo and they are called Jinrikisha. They are mainly used to pull tourist around and the puller earns around $15 for 10 minute ride.
Yes, I was also thinking that this should now be converted into Tourism and heritage and should only ferry tourists as it can increase the income of the pullers too.
This is called Hakney carriageand the British introduced in Hong Kong ,Singapore Sanghai ,Calcutta. Now only in Kolkata metropolitan area it is available.
