And they try to use the excuse of "Oh, I didn't see it." How can you not see it? How can you not hear it? How can you not feel the ground shaking as they speed by? Anybody who can't tell when a train is coming is a moron. Period.
Oh, that was way too easy. It's a lot more fun when the engineer has to run around kicking the engine and beating on the turbo with a hammer and the engine responds by coughing and gagging and belching black smoke and smelly diesel fumes that stink up the air in all directions for miles. Now that's how to start an engine!
...as I sat here waiting patiently for the startup...i realized why i get chills for this kind of stuff...this is the metallic version of more than 4,000 horses (literally) with a pulling force of 150,000 lbs, all neatly packed into a box 73 feet long, 15 feet tall, and 10 feet wide. i'll probably go to sleep later on thinking about the shrill sound of those turbos...
...so sorry for the double comment! but, i can't quit laughing how the background chatter is suddenly silenced with, "Shhhhhhhh! shhhhhhh...I wanna hear the relays clicking, etc..." I only caught this on my third replay...
I'm 75 now but when I was a kid hanging out around the New York Central North Bergen Roundhouse in New Jersey (long one now) watching mechanics doing major overhauls, Diesel locomotives (mostly Alco RS2s) were left idling ll the time. I was told the purpose was to avoid carbon buildup in the cylinders, which makes sense because that was dirtier fuel oil back then. Man, those were he days when a kid could go just about anywhere. These days an adult can't even walk the tracks without being subject to arrest.
Nice video. So I guess you didn't see the CNW's this morning. I was gonna get them too but when I got up and traced them, they were already in Global 2. :(
On a road vehicle, your typical air compressors are supposed to build up from 0 psi to 120-150 psi in around 6-8 minutes at regular idle, and should go from 80 (Low psi alarm) to 120 in under a minute while operating at speed or fast idle. I imagine that train compressors have similar requirements.

It's amazing that something this big is coming down the tracks and people will still try to get across the tracks before it comes.
Cuz people are STUPID!!!!!

engine sound

This one's been well maintained, so startup is easy.
Beating on the turbo with a hammer? Don't be silly.. It's not an Alco :)
Engine start up at 2:20
The sound of an EMD engine is music to my ears! That was awesome!
I fuel union Pacific trains and I have fueled this unit in Utah a few times!
TruckDrivingIsLife! I work at a gas station and wish I could fill a train once with all the diesel we have cause some locomotive needs fuel randomly
I fuel them as well down here in Texas. Love doing it!

I'ma need you to get some help. Take two 710G's with water before you go to bed and call me in the morning.

All you need is that tune from Judas priest.
I'm your turbo lover
Tell me there's no other
I'm your turbo lover
Better run for cover
7:27 horn
I like hearing the locomotives firing up and I always think how powerful and understanding of the locomotives over the years
All the women rolling their eyes "Are we done yet???"
Lol. That sounds like everyone’s moms who have agreed to drive them to a event but have no interest whatsoever.
I love the paintwork

Up is so popular .
seriously that 710G3B
Union pacific and bnsf have the best looking engines
UP , BNSF , Norfolk Southern , and CSX all use the same type of Locomotive they're just painted in different paint schemes.
Union Pacific are pretty cool 2002 looks pretty and and it has a really good horn to it I don't know what kind of sounds like a k5lla horn
its K3LA
The SD70ACe locomotives carry the K5LLA horn
Ralph Richard Also a handful of dash 9s
@@ralphrichard8431 And a few UP SD70M's have K5LLA horns as well
Meh, start a ALCO when is - 6 out...
Love hearing them start with those air starters
How long does it take to build up air pressure?
Just a few minutes, unless you're charging a whole train, that can take a while, especially if you've only got one locomotive doing the pumping.
Great Footage!
Sounds like a Boeing 737 almost
Saw this unit heading west bound out of North Platte, Nebraska August of 2016
I was here for this, I remember seeing you there now.
4:54 to 5:33, Is music to my ears!!!!
EMD or GE Machine
EMD
Emd 12 banger.
bruh 😑
I love the sound of EMD diesel engines. That droning chant and turbocharger whine is like music to my ears!!
One of the last made in Canada whisper cabs.......so reliable CN still have a ton of them left
RIP GM DIESEL DIVISION, LONDON ONTARIO CANADA
I believe this train it’s sitting next to the 10 freeway right before Etiwanda in Southern California I drive past it every day
Is there by chance you could take a photo and send it to me
Same railroad.

Cool start! Smooth as silk.
Very nice,start ups are Kool.
I saw this locomotive hauling an autorack train through a yard in Louisville, Ky about 2 years ago.

Guess he had to find the Hampster and load it into the cage... LOL Lite the fuse, Dennis - 2:24
0:25 “im a short person so” 🤣 they dont get all the authority still
Built with pride in London Ontario but not anymore......😕
What a train love the way she started beuatiful
Lo comotora 2002 a manted de los trenes des de costa rica 😊
This unit 8s pulling rock right now
And we never stop to wonder why you can hear these beasts humming throughout town. That’s power!!
Wow!! Love this!! That deep rumble of that SD 70 diesel engine!!
Locomotives by far have the most powerful engines in the world, second only to ships
the prime mover is a EMD 710G3C-T2 prime mover
Lol it's like it's going to lift off like in Back to the Future
EMD 710,it sucks that you can't even hear that classic EMD bark anymore thanks to the exhaust silencers they run these days...
That's so beautiful ❤️❤️ it
One powerful horse.
0:15 green river on the wood. :D
Very cool train
Music to my ears! Gives me goose bumps!!!
They do"GOT IT DONE"!!
Awesome, I love to hear them startup.
cold start to warm up and off

Yes.
No

Another locomotive i've been in. :-)

This Loco pushed a train into the yard I worked at today. Looked awesome in person
is it bad for they to rev up without moving
not really they do load tests a lot on locomotives
no, its the same as cars
No, all the engine is really turning is the generator or alternator depending on if it is a DC or AC locomotive.
EMD
Cool sounds, but doesn’t even come close to the sound of a steam locomotive.
Union Pacific sd70mack number 2002
That Hawley guy gets around.
I’ve seen 2002 in mineola for the first time
It sounds like a dc10 plane
Cool but how do you turn on launch control
Whew!!! that is outstanding!!! what a sound!
Cool video
They use 2 stroke diesel engines, but im curious why they sound like turbine engines
It's turbocharged.
The turbocharger has an axial turbine, much like a gas turbine engine.
Where is this engine now has it been repainted
Still the same, it was at our shop for an inspection about a month ago.
Friggin AWESOME!!!
Nice
ETHER AND A GOOD KEY HELPS
What kind of loco is it? Is it an older SD 70?
Yes it’s a SD70M
Does this unit still operate?
Sd70m their nice locomotives and their engines sound like beasts and it looks like a beast
Not much of a "demo"
I wouldn't risk moving the locomotive when it's possible that people are where I can't see them.
