  • Combining international styles and modern influences with Japanese craft traditions, George Nakashima's work was a significant force in the American craft movement of the mid-twentieth century. The complex he built between 1960 and 1975 in New Hope, Pennsylvania, demonstrates the skill, ingenuity, and artful genius of this master craftsman, furniture designer, and architect.
After including the site on the 2014 World Monuments Watch, World Monuments Fund partnered with the Nakashima Foundation for Peace to create a sustainable plan for the complex. Work included training young craftspeople in the technical skills needed to steward the unique complex into the future.
