I have thousands in RC cars/tanks/helis/ even a submarine. "expensive" and value are subjective but this kit sits in my "CART" for 3 months and I cannot pull the trigger on it at $1000. What makes it a $8-900-$1000 kit? Does the finished running car warrant the time/effort/ cost??
If you like building & practicing to get better, yes worth the money. I do it because I love building for the design & engineering that goes into these kits. My 1st Tamiya RC was a buggy & my 2nd was a touring car. Hence the constant amazement with the development of these cars & the reason why I have many of these. As for the cost, I’m sure everyone (except those that are super lucky) balances their wants to fit within their means (I hope).
Just awesome looking car. Almost $1000 is a little rich for my blood, especially when you consider that there is no RC track anywhere within 200 miles of where I am. This chassis is a little too much for just bashing in the street.
Yeah. We all have different priorities & $1k with electronics etc is a bit much. It’s only a hobby and if we are able to afford it then we are lucky in this life already. I’m very grateful for that. 😊
Just wondering, are the nut inserts for the rear stiffener plates a pressed / friction fit (for ease of attachment)? Also, does the two piece motor mount seem susceptible to tweak? Although I do notice that there's a key where the two pieces meet. Thanks!
The nut inserts fit snugly without play. The two piece suspension mount is keyed and fairly chunky. A real work of art. Only time will tell if it will tweak.
Yes. You are very correct. The TRF417 came out way back in 2010. You can find out more about the TRF417 here tamiyabase.com/chassis/167-trf417#all-trf417-variants
It really depends on affordability. If both were the same price I would start with the 420 because it’s got the new bottom arms & suspension parts which are more durable than the 417 arms. I’ve broken countless amount of arms, front C-hubs and front & rear uprights. Since the TA04 / TRF414, Tamiya has finally gotten it right in this area. I haven’t broken any of these since using the new 420 suspension. Also the ball joint connectors are open rather than full plastic cups and I haven’t popped any of these either. I would rather spend my time practicing more than constantly fix the car as that would be frustrating after awhile as I know I would crash more being a newbie. If price isn’t an issue then go for 420. If it’s the 417 based on affordability then be more patient in your journey, if that’s logical.
I’m also not sure as I don’t have a 419. What I do know is that the 420 suspension, arms, hubs etc are so much stiffer & durable which must translate to better handling. I haven’t broken any of these yet. Unfortunately now that Tamiya has finally got it right here, the rest of the competitors have gone towards A arms.
Prices varies depending on where you live or order from. Benchmarking from Hong Kong online shops for example it’s approx. TRF420x USD600 vs Xray X4 USD650. The 420x comes with both carbon & graphite chassis though.
@@t-studioworks In Holland prices of Xray and Tamiya in this high end class are approx the same. But spare parts, tyres and bodies of Tamiya are much more expensive than the X-ray parts. If prices of spare parts of Tamiya would be a more competitive I and several of my race buddies would prefer the Tamiya because of the advantage of the populair Tamiya Cup races in Holland (only Tamiya chassis are allowed). But we think the new X-ray 2023 chassis is a bit further developed
Yeah… think it comes down to personal preference. If it was an open class I would still pick Tamiya. Just have to plan ahead with spares because there is something about the blue. You know what I mean. 😉
Wow the amazing Tamiya TRF kit is still not available in EU. We have to wait
Hope the EU has got the kits already. She is a real beauty. 😊
That was really cool. Just watched the whole thing. TRF's are always a nice build. Hate trying to fit everything in and wire it up though.
Trying to wire it up as neatly as possible is part of the building fun. Can’t wait for the next TRF.

You should not put that much of shrinking tube. Tekin recommends to leave the gold tubes visible as they are participating in heat dissipation.
Thanks for advice. Will remove for running & for next projects. 🙂
Awsome build 😍👍
Thank you. 😊
Good job~
すごい。
Thank you. Hope Tamiya continue to make excellent cars like this.
@@t-studioworks Ok.. I’ll hope so~~

Nice
Thank you. 🙂
Please tell me model 417 is the top model but It's the old model, the 420 is the newer model. Do I understand correctly? (Newbie wants to try playing)

@@t-studioworks 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻thank you for useful advice to me
You are very welcome. Hope you enjoy the hobby any which way you can. Happy New Years!
Is trf 420 better than trf419? I don't know that difference.

wat price tag do these go for. hope not as expensive as the xrays etc

Work hard & save up for it. At one stage I too could not afford. 🙂
