Starfield is the most peaceful scifi setting I've ever seen. There is no conflict between any of the factions and if the bad guy isnt stopped from his evil plan he literally just leaves the universe. Its actually impressive how boring of a story the writing team was able to craft

@@ummerfarooq5383Couldn’t afford an xBox? Sad. Stop riding Sony Pony.
The writing was on the wall even before the MS acquisition. Now anything Bethesda makes will just be more upfront about being socially corpratized and lacking any meaningful emphasis on simply being innovative. Or fun. It like it wasn't just the incompetent writers wacking it to their OCs that put some passion into it.
@@12ealDealOfficial I don't think the MS acquisition is at fault. Bethesda has been an amusement park of sorts for a while now. You hop on a ride, shut off your brain and have fun for little while. There's no active effort to create something deep and meaningful. This looks like the same Bethesda that developed Skyrim and Fallout 4 to me. It's just that they were in over their heads with the scope of Starfield.
@@dearen7588 „ This looks like the same Bethesda that developed Skyrim and Fallout 4 to me.“
How so?
In Skyrim they still managed to get small details in, like NPCs reacting to you approaching with a weapon drawn, running into them, the type of armor/equipment you wear, …
They had an absolutely awesome soundtrack, instead of just a good one, and they still knew how to make the core game loop fun and exciting, while the core game loop for Starfield is walking 3-5 minutes through a boring looking place with nothing to discover.
Also for Starfield they had ~3x the time and ~4x the people than for Skyrim. Does it feel to you like 12x the amount of work went into Starfield over Skyrim?
To me it clearly doesn‘t.
Starfield from the setting is clearly the best one to make exploration a focus, which since Morrowind has been Bethesdas strong suit. But somehow Bethesda managed to make exploration worse than in any other game they have released in the past 21 years.
So again how does this seem like the same Bethesda to you?
When the things they were previously good at are now their weak points.
Corporate minimalist RPG.
Can you think of a safer, more bland setting and lore?
"Oh there were mechs and xeno wars, but thats over and illegal now"
"We had space zealots that were purging the galaxy, but they left now"
"Earth was going through an event that redefined life for the majority of humanity, but that happened awhile ago"
Your character was born just in time to RP as a space trucker or a geologist, that can then turn into rick sanchez.
That's just real life, boring
@@sol9059 that's literally my point, thanks for that
They literally failed one of the most basic rules of writing, if the story we are currently reading isn't the most interesting moment in the setting, why aren't we reading the more interesting moments.
@@tekaname4188 dark souls fans crying rn
@@tekaname4188I don't think the current story has to necessarily be "more interesting" than the lore. ASOIAF arguably has more interesting lore and characters in legends than the current story. The difference is that the lore reinforces and strengthens the current story in good fiction. In Starfield, you can ignore all the lore and feel like you've barely lost anything. It's too separate from what you're seeing for yourself.
Todd's charisma is too high, he can't keep getting away with this.

having essential NPCs in a game where you can reset the universe seems like a huge oversight
Like Nintendo, Bethesda doesn't want you to have fun unless it is EXACTLY the way they intended
@@ninjacat230However, unlike Bethesda the way Nintendo wants you to have fun is usually pretty good.
originally essential NPC's were so you didnt break your game somewhere without noticing.
now its a red flag that forces you to reload a save when youve pissed off major quest NPC's. atleast skyrim let you put your weapon away and attempt to negotiate.
They did it right in Morrowind.
it's honestly insane how many randomly essential npcs there are in this game and it feels so fucking terrible coming off BG3 and having actual freedom to fuck up your game and decide a narrative. there's literal unnamed characters with essential status, it's so obnoxious.
At this point I'm more impressed by a sci-fi story that says there's only one universe.

Name me a game post- FO4 that has actually improved upon the open world genre, inb4 you pretend RDR2 did
My favorite moment in Starfield was when I, who had built my character to be as combat-oriented and anti-social as possible, managed to instantly get a critical success on persuading the game's final boss, completely ruining the last bit of immersion and enjoyment that I had
Kind of epic, really.
man you get a lottery ticket , with chances like these you can at least get second place .
I HATE Bethesda's fucking persuasion dice rolling system. Obsidian figured out a great way to pull it off by having the character's Speech/Charisma meet a certain threshold to pass, that way you're not stuck with 100 speech and failing a critical persuasion check or ending up with an exact situation you have here.
Much like real life, I'm not suddenly going to be the most persuasive person on the planet for exactly 5 seconds because I got lucky - I'd be persuasive if I understood how people spoke and how I can manipulate that into my favor.
still means you chose the persuade option, but yeah dumb shit, skipped this game after fallout 76 and fallout 4 being shit when all they had to do was follow the script to succeed
@@testedhawk In all honesty the downside of that system was that if you had your speech one point below that threshold you're pretty much dicked.
Thats like being 3 words short to persuade someone. Maybe a combination of the systems would be good, where a certain threshold guarantees success but below that your chances get exponentially lower with each point.
Also, this video made me realise that Bethesda had the perfect way to subvert the usage of "essential NPC" - because in order to complete the main quest all you actually need to do is just find all the artifacts, you don't REALLY need any specific person for it, just have artifact data be stored in the Eye's computer "Yes-man" style and go from there. Actually have a reason for dimention hopping - to find things that you missed because someone died.
I don't understand why they don't just "lock" your weapons in the areas full of unkillable NPCs.

i think my favorite thing about bethesda persuasion is they dont bother to actually write dialogue options that make sense so it really feels like you're jedi mindtricking enemies
Starfield persuasion options make about as much sense as talking with a drunk person and saying something like: "Nice day, isn't it?" and them suddenly becoming extremely enraged or super happy. You have no idea /why or how/ it happened, but it happened.
Nah they do make sense, the problem is that regardless of your persuasion level some options don't work at all depending on what you started the convo with. You're basically playing for a set number of points to be successful and if you over shoot or don't do the right set number combo you fail. The funny thing is you can basically brute force some convos that have a limited number of options like say stacking multiple +1 choices if you pick the right sequence. It's obvious what they were going for and it COULD have worked, but just like the system in Oblivion the execution didn't stick the landing

It's a bit of a joke about how bethesda using india/bangladesh/whatever 3rd party studios for art assets got on the spotlight (something a lot of big game companies do now). Every time someone on 4chan said something bad about the game, someone replies with a similar joke.
Like someon posting a pic of a very ugly npc and saying "here's your npc, sir"
Tell me how it is to live with so much people in so little space. It boggles my mind.

Wow this is the most savage and entertaining in a long line of beatdowns this Starfailed/BGS rightfully deserve. Well done!
I love how consistent Sseth is in always showing Mike Stoklasa's picture, anytime dementia or being old is mentioned in his videos.
It's by far my favourite running gag.

It's such an odd relationship isn't it?
@@dr.kinderman5290 I think Sseth has daddy issues

Glad to see Sseth reviewing these small indie games
Only Sseth can travel into the future, be horrified by it, and still make it entertaining, before reverting back to the muderious yet alluring past of our timeless classics.
- Dr. Damo
It's actually unsettling just how pissed sseth sounds. I don't think I've ever heard him this upset.
There's bad and then there's irredeemable bullshit. Starslop is the latter.
Keep in mind, this game was made by a man that had the balls to handwave away poor performance by smugly suggesting you get a better computer.
The amount of essential npcs in this game is insane.
The only good thing about Starfield is making an adaptive frame farm on bessel3 at the very start of the game and using an auto hotkey script to spam craft to level 350, forcing Sarah to watch you alternate between sleeping non stop for two weeks and spam crafting 6 million lbs of useless junk. By the time I was done over 10 years had passed, meanwhile Sarah was still inquiring when we would start the second main story quest.
Wtf lmao 😂😂
Using more than 10% of your brain while autistic.
Not to mention repeatably waiting 24 hours to sell your adaptive frames over and over because the damb shop keepers don't have enough money.
@@themagnus2919 Gotta pad out the game somehow.
@@themagnus2919man, you might as well cheat the money at that point. Why committing to something so tedious.
That Rick & Morty line was cold 💀
Todd Howard truly is a master of making game. He has finally made a game that Sseth has only negative things to say about.👌👏
I love the inclusion of the "we have a deal" image in every sponsor segment, reminding us that Sseth indeed only does it for the money
at least hes honest about his shekelclutching
You know, that "If there's infinite universes then there's no consequences" idea was explored a little in a batman movie I think with Owlman, he saw that since there are infinite universes that every choice and path had already been taken, and as such he believed free will was a lie because no matter what he did there was a universe where he didn't.
He decided because of this he was going to destroy the multi-verse, because in his words "I'm going to make the only choice that matters."
Crisis on Two Earths. fuckin great movie
Sounds awesome, i want to watch it

That's the great thing about being an average dude is that you circle back to the point of, "I only live in this current timeline thankfully so all that matters is what has been done in my life and what I will do before I die."
The fact bethesda just slapped in unskippable scenes to force the 2hr refund mark onto people is insane.
Best video because it rips so hard on Bathesda and Bathesda fans.
Can't wait for Sseth to break the game by overconsuming Skooma in the first 4 minutes
Yeeeesss
That's Wilburgur.
And how would that break the game?

Ah, yes, the murder Dagoth Ur speedrun - hold on a sec...
Sseth's sympathetic disillusion with AAA gaming has finally manifested itself into a full-fledged video. Unlocking an infinite source of potential future content in the process.
The date is December 11th 2023 and the paid mods line has aged **beautifully** .
"Starfield is to role playing what dementia is to the elderly". Hahahahahaaaa!
Few of you will believe me, but a few weeks ago I was playing Starfield and one of my Displates fell off the wall and absolutely wedged itself between the now destroyed molding and the wall. Seeing as this is a rental I'm sure that's enough to keep my entire security deposit as if they weren't going to keep it anyway. Thanks Todd Howard and thanks Displate, but mostly thank you Sseth. Seeing my three favorite things come together like this has been an inspiration.
Bro if that actually happened I'm so sorry, that really sucks.
It's also funny as shit...
yeah, i have a few displates, dont trust the magnets, they only seem to work for a few types of wall even if you install em right. Grab some 3M command strips, theyre like sticky backed velcro strips, i use 2 of em per plate, and theyre easy to get rid of if you need to take em down.
i believe you. because the very first thing i thought when i saw an ad for displate for the very first time was, "magnets lose their magnetism relatively fast. before long that big metal plate is going to fall off the wall and whatever is under it is fucked". needless to say i was never in any danger of buying any.
The cope around the game being “good” is quite insane, it’s like Bethesda creates absolute self loathing players that accept the bare minimum.
@@fistovuzi the magnets arent bad per se, at least in mine, its usually the adhesive backing ON the magnet that fails. In fact i have 3 displates that are still using the magnet, i got those years ago and havent moved them. The adhesive is not created equally or applied equally it seems.
Glad to see Sseth is capable of coherent thought after the Breeders of the Nephelym incident
I'm still in utter fear of watching that video. I saw it in my notifications, and for once, DID NOT click on it just because Sseth's name was there - not even Sseth's presence was enough fortification for me.

Dreams do come true
Hail, nerevarine.
I find it incredibly amusing that Todd Howard cited the 1985 space trading game 'Sundog' as inspiration for this, as many of the issues brought up here (esp inventory and tracking requirements) were the biggest issues in that game too. But it did it with a smaller curated set of planets instead of procgen, so maybe it was better back then?
It is the most ridiculous procgen I've ever seen in a game, because only the planet surfaces are generated, but the buildings, caves etc. are all from a tiny pool of ca. 30 pre-made assets (less than 10 of them take more than 5 minutes to explore) and even safes, loot boxes, skill magazines, clutter, what have you, are in the exact same spots.
This game really makes you feel like you’re trying to please the shareholders!
My body was not prepared to hear the words "Multiverse implies there is a universe where you haven't been molested." Goddamn dude, keep killing it with these lines.
I did it in a very professional manner this time: Waited for release, paid the 70 EUR, played 2 hours, identified a fraction of the problems listed here (mostly docking and undocking annoyed me) and refunded just in time. See you again in a few years when the Anniversary edition is being sold for 20 EUR.
they released skyrim 17 seperate times over 10 different consoles, lets see if starfield can beat the record.
Maybe it would be wiser to just not play this game even when it's back on discount
@@declancampbell1277It cannot because any new platform Starfield will be released on, Skyrim will follow. Whatever new console, whatever new OS, whatever new way to experience gaming, there will be an official way to experience Skyrim, mark my words.

Every time I hear something else about Starfield, I am amazed all over again that this is the state they release their games in.
Corporations have figured out that there's a massive demographic eager to spend money on mediocre crap. It's GG.
Its amazing how increasingly more poorly released their games are since Skyrim, yet their sale numbers only go up.
