Always astounded by how much Brahms demands the musicians to diverge from classical rhythmic constancy and phrase each line, which makes playing together infinitely more challenging.
True. And could also be said of his choral work, the only one with which I am familiar is his Requiem (for the living!) But Mein Gott! How beautiful it is when it all comes together! I fully agree with his being one of the 3 great "B's" of classical music - Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms.
Terrific performance Brahms Symphony No 1 is the second best no I symphony of all time. Mahler's Symphony No 1 is the best but this one is extremely good and very entertaining!
7:25 2nd oboe gets something stuck in his B key (sounds like wrong note) then a few seconds later has a close look at instrument. You don't get many 2nd oboe solos, shame the instrument malfunctioned on this occasion 😮
Would it be possible to upload the whole symphony as one piece? Besides: Amazing performance, and I heard a lot! Did you also play the other symphonies? I would be eager to hear your interprations of those, too!
Minute 13 horribly out of tune. No longer the orchestra it once was. If I was assistant concductor I would try to improve the quality of playing even though I'm not a violist. And liveliness of interpretation, the tempo in the finale movement is dragging. And that makes out of tune playing more painful. I think staccati are very powerful in Brahms, it sounds too muddy. And phrasing, interplay between instruments, everyone is like a soloist. It's not very well together. This orchestra is in decline, they were in the world top some years or decades ago, now it sounds middling.
I'm no conductor , just a simple music - lover. This is one of my favorite symphonies , and I've been listening to it throughout my life. I went to minute 13 , and did not hear anything out of place. Could you kindly elaborate ?
Blessed be you Mr. Zander. You bring so much joy to so many people.
Happy New Year 🎆
The amount of musical wisdom this man has is amazing I watch his cello classes on repeat so I can learn
CELLO CLASSES???? WHERE CAN I FIND THOSE
Bravo!!!
Heartbreakingly beautiful! We give humble thanks.

The horns in this 4th movement reminds me much of Sibelius.
The Sibelius reminds you of Brahms! Lol
