- A Lakeland High School substitute teacher is facing multiple charges after Polk County deputies say she had sex with one of her male students.
According to the deputies, the relationship had been going on for months but didn't come to light until a student told a school resource officer about the existence of a Snapchat video showing the two having sex.

When minors try to flirt with you or ask you about your personal life, as an adult, you have to disengage and shut it down because an adult has everything to lose. I remember in middle school, the girls would flirt with the male teachers and they would flirt back. It just doesn't look good. Even if it is "consensual," in the eyes of the law, a minor cannot consent, in most cases. Think of everything you worked hard for. I worked at a school and I even used to get nervous when the kids would come up and hug me, but you seriously can't stop them. Kids love giving hugs lol. But yeah, you have to be careful. Being around kids is a huge responsibility and a huge risk. Your reputation and freedom are at stake. It is not worth it.
For all those wondering, you don't need a college degree to be a substitute teacher. And many substitutes don't actually teach anything. It's more of a babysitting role.

Florida leads the nation in teacher-student sex crimes. It's a major reason why Desantis has full support from the state legislation to ban so much involvement of teachers engagement with students in sexual discussion/education/literature without parents permission.
This happens all the time. It’s wrong on every level, but when I was I high school, the girls went after the teachers often, and they were getting busy with the teachers. It was one of those unspoken things.

What's wrong with the school district for allowing a 20 year old to teach high school? What does a 20 year old going to tell an 18 year old senior about anything. How do you NOT anticipate this being a strong potential situation?
We(school district) failed the young lady. Anytime you mix kids near the same age door is opened for what happened. The judge absolved the district and himself in their part of the mess.
"what is wrong with you" should have been towards the light thinking District, but oh well we always pass blame.
I recall a tutoring service providing my daughter with a kid similar in age, I called the very day and demanded a much older female tutor for future sessions. Daughter didn't understand my over reaction, I told her that's why I am the dad and her the daughter.
The tutor was instrumental in helping my girl get accepted into 3 Ivy League schools.
Would the 17/18 year old tutor have helped her reach such heights?? my vote until my last day is NO!

If a person earned his or her bachelor's degree and passes the state examination to teach part time....age does not matter....how "could" age be an issue? I taught as a substitute "teacher" (not special ed. assistant ; teachers "need" at least a bachelor's degree 😂) at high schools in California at age 25. I was recognized as an Elementary student pretty often...😂

@@jamesmena2241 quite often tutors are still students themselves. Things change over the years in many courses so I think someone that attended school recently or is still in school can teach students a lot more than a 50-60 year old that hasn’t been to school in decades!

Back in early 2020 at my former high school, this was on my senior year, and I've initially heard rumors about the ROTC teacher being busted for having relations with a sophomore student, eventually being published all over the news. Wild surprise to say the least.
