    Little did Arkansas fans know that this guy was Manziel before people knew about Manziel or Tebow or Winston or Kapernick. He played in the wrong era for QBs. Had he played 2-3 years later he would have been a revelation. Instead he was criticized for not being a prototypical drop back passer. A shame really, as he was one of the best playmakers the SEC has seen as a QB.

    • @rhemium
      @rhemium 9 лет назад +5

      Mudcat3434 Manziel wishes he had Jones' size/speed. Jones was a man among boys in college. Just look at the vid. A 6'6" rocket. Didn't translate to the pros and he wasn't a great pro WR. Partied his way out of the League just like Manziel is doing.

Before the draft, the media was projecting him at 4.65 and he basically laughed at them when questioned and said " I'll run 4.4" He averaged 4.40 at the combine with a best of I believe 4.37 so on the stopwatch he was 4.3 all day.

      Not the best ever. I am a lifelong Razorback, 44 years old with a relative on the Razorbacks All Century Team. Matt Jones is my favorite Razorback football player ever. When he graduated, Urban Meyer said that Matt Jones was the best player in the SEC his last two seasons. We've never seen a white college quarterback that size with that athleticism. He was 6'5" in football and 6'6" in basketball. His arm was underrated as well - search for "Miracle on Markham"

  • @vihockeyguy1
    @vihockeyguy1 13 лет назад

    Last clip at the senior bowl practice shows how athletic he was. Look how high he jumps. He was legit 6'6, 251 pounds. At the combine, he ran an official 4.37 40. Dmac ran a 4.33. Matt Jones had a 40" vertical and had long arms and you can see how good his hands were with that one handed snag in practice. He should have been one of the greatest down field threats to play in the NFL. What a waste of talent. Such a naturally physically gifted freak. Doubt we'll ever see another like him.

    Ran a 4.31 not a 4.37. He was timed as fast as 4.28 as a freshman before he bulked up sum and tore his labrum and rotator cuff in his throwing arm. He refused to get surgery because he would have missed basketball season. So he played the rest of his career on half an arm and still got screwed out of starting on the basketball team because the scholarship boys were cryin about losing their minutes to the white QB. Watch his basketball highlights, they coulda went deep in tourney if they had played him. Also watch him dunk on the goal post after smoking a 1st round corner from ole miss on a 70yrd td run. He was the Greatest Athlete Arkansas has Ever had or Ever will have. 6'7 with a 40" vertical could throw a football 75yards in the air before injury and could throw a baseball 94mph. Jimmy Smith at Jacksonville got him to doin sum cola but if he was black he would have played for years in the NFL as a receiver. That's ok, 1st round pick and he got his $21M guaranteed money back then. Not bad for a guy who didn't want to play football, his dream was the NBA but the Arkansas coaches and Frank broyles dumb ass fd him outta that dream.

    This dude is basically the size of Cam Newton or Joe Flacco but ran a freakin 4.37 and had a 40 inch vertical. I didn't really follow this guy in college ball, so I don't how great his throwing skills were (looked like he pretty much ran the ball most of the time). If he just could've gotten his shit together in Jacksonville, his athletic ability could've given him the same potential as Calvin Johnson,

    • @ryanexsus
      @ryanexsus 9 лет назад

      The real reason he never went as a QB was because as a freshman he tore his rotator cuff and never got surgery. Before he could flat footed throw it 70 yards and after 30 yards. He's discussed it on my favorite radio show Overtime with Trey Schapp and Matt Jones.

    • @Best-bw4xr

      Best As an Aussie, I have to ask. Why is Quarterback such a prestigious spot?
      I've always thought Wide receiver was the best position..

    • @Best-bw4xr
      @Best-bw4xr 9 лет назад +1

      Ultimately, football is a team sport. All positions are important. QBs basically operate the entire offense. You need to be able to read defenses and make adjustments on the offense. It is a position that unfairley burdens a lot of the pressure for the outcome of the game. If the team wins, the QB becomes the hero. If they lose, the QB often becomes the first to blame. A wide receiver can be shutdown or made less effective in a game (ie. being double teamed, utilizing safety help, etc.) A QB cannot really be shutdown. It is their job to find other ways to move the offense if their prime target is not open. It is a position that has a steep learning curve. It is why when teams draft a QB, he needs time to develop. Teams draft receivers and they can often give you instant production.

    • @chriserwalk4386
      @chriserwalk4386 9 лет назад

      Kyle Byron The easiest way to explain it is that the QB always gets the ball first. He can opt-out of the play they're about to run and change it if he thinks another one will be more successful. He also has the responsibility to throw to the person most likely to have success with the ball. Bad QBs will often try to force throws when a better QB can make throws that put WRs in a better position to make the catch. It's all on the QB.

He could make all the throws, moving left, right, backfoot, 30 yard outs, ironically, that was the game he tore his shoulder up, never had surgery, and had to rely on his running after.

    If he came out in 2014 I believe he wouldve been givin a shot at qb in the nfl..I think he wouldve been putting up the same numbers as kaepernick.

      Timbo Slice He had a shot at QB , they would be drafted him 7th round, then fixed his labrum, and he wouldn't have been guaranteed a spot, or get drafted in the 1st, at WR, it was a no brainer.

    Absolute freak. Most insane highlight reel when you realize the level of talent he’s making look so silly. Probably 3/4 of those guys played in the league he was making look dumb

    That Arkansas backfield is the greatest in college football history in my opinion. Hillis, Jones, Jones, and McFadden. Speed, size, elusiveness, power....how was this not a championship team? Definitely one of the most fun to ever watch.

      ashasha3 Matt Jones didn’t play with that backfield. He was the year before

    Doesn't even look like a QB. Looks like a big running back running the wildcat. They just listed him at QB.

    @n1ckmsrt haha what?! Dude, I'm white so this is not a racial reply but that was pretty ignorant. He was addicted to drugs and got caught with cocaine multiple times. He weighed 245 when he came into the league and left weighing around 215-220. Obviously he was more focused on blow than on football.

    • @bentonja668
      @bentonja668 5 лет назад

      thats bullshit he got down to 225 for the combine. He had baby fat in college and weighed 240 to 245

    If he was a white calvin johnson, he would still be in the league on the front of madden covers and in nike commercials getting paid millions.

    The one thing you forget is that he was an erratic passer at best. If he would've been precise, he then would've been the greatest qb of all time.

      He blew out his shoulder as a freshman. He refused to get surgery. He played his whole career with half an arm. Pretty Damn good passer for only having half an arm !!
