Thanks to Square-Enix, Max goes hands on with the Tokyo Game Show demo of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Full preview and impressions of both the Nibelheim Flashback demo, as well as the explorable open-world portion of Junon Harbor.

Completely forgot the 'Dodge' materia in R was called 'Parry'. Everyone gets their 'Parry' materia dodge animation by default now it seems. I've become a dad since the first game, so many un-needed memories got wiped for child priority. If you're a parent, you'd understand.
Does it work the same as parry? As in does it cause damage to enemies when you parry on/near them?

Definitely. Our brains auto delete a lot besides muscle memory, survival tactics, and family protection when we become parents. Lol. The good thing is that we regain our childhood excitement through our kids.

Parry and anything FFVII is obviously more important!
Two things I can say:
1. The last part when Max was wondering about the island, then figuring out that you can get there by SWIMMING, broke my tears up.
2. Did you notice how funny looks Red XIII riding the Chocobo? This makes me imagining that Standing on Both Feet will be hilarious!!

The flashback stuff is so freaking crazy. Cloud is moving and talking like Zack even down to his gestures and personality. They perfectly captured this moment
being voiced is surreal, we only got a voiced nibel from Crisis core, but we never saw it with Clouds fake memories.
Cid will be the auto play character this time
It's outright unsettling knowing his memories aren't accurate

Love how they actually do make Cloud look younger in the flashback just like his menu screen portrait did in the original.
And the way he acts and speaks is a lot like Zack too. (Will not elaborate because of spoilers for the original game, but if you know, you know)
@@mariogirl8100 in addition, when you compare his flashback voice to the ones we heard in the newest rebirth trailer, the former is MUCH higher pitched and the latter somewhat lower

That bit at the end. It's like something they didn't need to do. They could have just not done anything, yet they did it. They put something optional in that didn't need to be there, but it being there just shows how much love they're putting into the game and allowing for exploration for the players that give rewards.
I feel like Max was working so hard to restrain himself for this. The game looks absolutely incredible, beyond what I would've even dared to WISH for when Remake just came out. I can't wait.

I love the sense of wonder you get in Cloud's eyes when he sees Sephiroth do his thing. Also seeing Red ride a Chocobo is great. Like Remake it is the little things that stand out.
My jaw was on the floor for this entire video. The synergy techs, the ease of exploring the open world. This is ONE TINY FRACTION OF THE MAP Imagine how other areas look. The areas around Gongaga, Rocket Town, Nibelheim, Old Corel. Oh man.

So many people try to complain about 16's open world and honestly? I'm glad it had nothing to explore. I'm fuckin sick of every game thinking it needs to be open world. Give me more hallways with focused story, please

I was the same with the FF16 demo, and now look at the final product... Yeah... 2nd half didn't end well...

This is beyond imagination 🌟 The overhyped Cloud is a fresh new take. We all know it's Clouds retelling. Literally Cloud with Zacks persona. The og arm shrug is a nice touch to OG FF7. The most used emotion in the og.

His mannerisms, the way he moves, everything just oozes Zack!
I firmly believe that Reunion got them a good base for this part of the game. And this is awesome.

I'm glad they didn't start doing the remake with PS3 graphics. Graphics tech was still on the largest slope of an S curve with PS3. Graphics technology today is getting near the peak of the S curve of progress where the slope is tapering down.

Cloud characterisation isn’t Zack. Only Nibelheim accident where he believed he was in Zack’s place.

@@tdspkhype3042yeah we know that. Cloud and Zack are not the same person. They have stuff in common obviously. Which is probably why it was so easy for Cloud to insert himself in Zack's place in his messed up memories. Cloud used to be very wide-eyed, optimistic and innocent before his mako poisoning just like Zack. I think that's what they mean with "his characterization is on point because it feels like Zack".
@@mellemadswoestenburg1296 I understand. I was just confirming that Cloud wasn’t Zack personality wise even after Mako poisoning because that misconception is widely spread within the community for some reason.
Seeing the whole team fight together like that is just euphoric.
I have such a big stupid smile on my face from watching this. Especially that bit at the end about the ship. It's incredible, thanks for sharing your experience Max. I didn't think I could get any more excited for Rebirth, but you have proved me wrong.
I’m just noticing how much BETTER the animation is in this game especially facial expressions. It was pretty darn good in remake but it’s a whole nother level in this. It truly looks like a NEXT GEN game

That last minute about wondering if going to the island would be awesome if done by swiming, and thus finding stuff on it, sets it all. The true essence of the OG. Man it gets me so much that I almost shed a tear of joy. Can't wait to discover what the small enchanted green forest is gonna look amd feels like....

I think Max was thank impressed because he doesn't play open world games, swimming is a pretty common exploration feature.

@@GuyWithAnAmazingHat what? No. Swimming as a part of exploration compared to the original game or ff7 remake is a huge deal here. Just because other games did it doesn't make it any less special.
@@naruvodo We already had swimming with blue chocobos and above, as well as climbing back in the OG. These aren't anything "special" to FF, it's the original features we had 25 years ago.
17:40 Welp, this pretty much sells the game for me, despite questionable story changes. I know that people have a lot of things to say in regards to FFXV, but I will always respect it as the first FF game to really attempt to recreate the type of world that was present in old Final Fantasy titles, and at a proper scale. Despite its issues, I respected the vision that team wanted to accomplish and executed on.
I was curious if it was posslbe to travel across bodies of water in FFVII: Rebirth, and I am super happy to see that this is possible. Interestingly enough, you were never able to have your characters swim across oceans in the original FFVII without a chocobo or boat, so seeing that here is pretty incredible. I know that having large, explorable worlds is no longer groundbreaking for video games, but for Final Fantasy? Square Enix has actually DONE IT!
*Fun Fact: You could actually use your Chocobo to swim in oceans in FFXV using the out-of-area glitch (before it was patched). The swimming animation for chocobos in Rebirth reminds me of FFXV, so I'm glad to see that SE is taking some aspects from FFXV and applying them properly to FFVII's huge world.

Red XIII riding a Chocobo wasn't something I thought about but am glad its here. Looking forward to your playthrough Max. I can't afford much anymore. So watching you show the joy of being a Final Fantasy fan and making great content. It helps me feel better. I'll watch and be along the ride to the end of the trilogy. Looking forward to February.
I am so excited. I can’t believe how incredible it looks. You can even swim! The dolphin! 🐬 the memories of playing the original. Junon. All of it, they’ve changed so much stuff. the UI, new animations, new crafting screen, even the level up screen, I love all the new changes and how fresh and new everything feels. This game is gonna be incredible. The open world! Even the baby chocobos! Cloud and Sephiroth. Man it just looks unreal.
They perfectly nailed the excited, overbearing, but charming Cloud that used to jump at the mention of going on a mission with Sephiroth, the transition of Zack's character to Cloud was great!
So far, the Flashback sequence looks great, and I hope for Rebirth to continue this big and noticeable level of improvement.

its trippy seeing the guy in armor following the party, with us knowing fully well that that is the real cloud. then having to control "cloud" knowing fully well that that is zack, even by the way he moves, talks and even gestures...
How not to be hyped when seeing this. It looks unbelievable. I have to laugh at Cloud, the dolphin and rainbow, there is no way the devs didn't know about the meme
@Maximilian_Dood FF7 was the 1st rpg I ever played in 95/96 and I have been HOOKED since then on rpg's but none beat FF7 for me.
Seeing where they're going really has me excited and I see and hear your excitement too!

Kinda off really that companies will do this. If they have a demo they could release it to their paying customers but they just give it to rich privileged influencers. It’s kinda sad, people would have loved to have this demo all at the same time. Max is no one special.

Thanks so much for sharing!! The variedness in terrain and environment makes it seem like a VERY different game. pre-ordered my copy shortly before I saw this uploaded yesterday. That swimming part was an amazing touch by the dev team and Sephiroth teleporting in-battle is sick as hell.

i was really cautious how rebirth gonna be like and how are they gonna execute the exploration in world map. based on the footage you provided, they are really pushing their boundaries and putting so much care and effort into this game better than remake. i totally respect to kitase, hamaguchi, nomura and rest of the team for taking their times to creating this game. they really set the new bar for next game and i hope they can blow our expectations once again for the next installment.

Remember when we talked about this Sort of Stuff for and in the Remake… but now its actually in the Game. Love it. Meaning the Combo at 10:30 „Did Tifa just jump from Clouds Sword?“ Its great. They are making the Things we have been expecting them to do.

It looks insane!! Wide eyed Cloud and just showing the birth of hero worship with that lighting and it's all in game models. Then you have that cheesy sunset moment with Mr Dolphin!!! I can't believe how good this looks and how well they are just capturing the essence of the original and still maintaining the fun.

I haven't watched the whole video but had to come to the comments and say...damn that intro brought a tear into my eyes. I got a feeling that Rebirth is going to break me from beginning to end. Here's to all the FF7 fans without a voice, those that are just as excited as Max. The emotions have and will continue to be real for this Game!!!!

Holy shit, the end Max speaking with the game showing what can be possible and that devs knows what we want, gives me goosebumps.
I'm tearing up seeing how great this looks. No other game can make me feel this way ever.
Max, nobody will probably see me for months when this comes out. But i promise you I will be right there with you when I'm done. Like I said before you shaped most of my interests in entertainment. And FF7 was the greatest gift you could have given me along with the introduction and history lesson of RE4 thank you man!
I cant wait to share this game with the next generation of gamers in my family. Its like sitting down and watching interstellar with them. Im glad you got to get a taste of whats to come, its a long time coming for the both the fans and the team at square.

Just brilliant! SEPHIROTH BEING PLAYABLE IS A DREAM SINCE THE GO AND THEY HAVE DONE IT!! everything looks gorgeous in motion! Menus and the refinements in all areas and they kept things fresh and new! I am extremely happy and i think this one will be one of the best games for sure! Seeing baby Tifa was so cute 😂❤ glad the dolphin and all the things we love are in tact!! Ofc I've seen the scenes in Famitsu and man the difference of quality between Japanese dub and eng is huge in representing these characters!! I encourage everyone to watch that footage! I don't wanna spoil for ppl who never played the OG but man seeing cloud acting that way was so damn insane.. little puppy 😂😂 maaan TGS made my day.. i can't stop watching the footage and appreciating the million things they added and seeing these iconic locations and moments 😭❤

Man I am relieved hearing all of the Impression Max got from the Demo's. I had some worries that Square just can't nial Open World Games but this calms me down a bit. Glad to hear and see that we have a great game uipon us! Thank you for the coverage Max!
What do you guys think about Cloud being similar strength to Sephiroth in the flashback? Seems like an oversight but when you think about it, it was only how Cloud perceived himself compared to Sephiroth, when in reality it should be Zacks relative strength instead. Meaning the remake is actually more story accurate than even the original game.

I dont know why, but something hit me at the end, with the island, the swiming up to it while juion is right there. Just got me thinking that they know what they're doing and how special this game really is
This game feels like the final culmination of what XV and the XIII Trilogy brought to the series. But now its fully realized. Man this is gonna be good.

No I see it too. Cloud saying "Magic sure is weird" at 4:20 was so expressive showing how he mimics Zack. 6:17 especially

No from what's shown here, it looks very impressive. I just hope most of the other area's can match up, large open world games can struggle to fill area's out with good content. But I know they'll put everything into this as it's their most important title.

I'm loving that Aerith rides her chocobos side saddle. I'm also thrilled that they fixed the ATB stall, that did make the battles in Remake less fun.
I like it cause she of course wouldn’t be able to sit normally in her dress.

Nahhh bro; in part 3 we have the airship, we go underwater and we have to deal with thr weapons. If anything itll be the pinnacle of rpg gameplay

I have never been this excited for a game since Breath of the Wild. I can't wait to play this game (RIP and thanks grandpa for introducing this game to me, shame that you did not live to see it)
From the demo's we've seen both from TGS and the recent 30 min demo exploring the initial region around Kalm, it seems like the entire first continent from Midgard, Kalm, Chocobo Farm and Junon is one big massive explorable region. Thats way more coverage for a single map than what I expected

I can't even describe it but out of the whole video, the little island tidbit at the end is what made me tear up just a bit. It's moments like that [as well as seeing the way Max talk positively at length about certain things] that convince me, more than the graphics, the story, the combat, anything else, that this will be a great game.
Like, damn dude. FF7R had some flaws, sure, but it was still a very good game imo. And just off the footage and how Max describes it, FF7Re is going to be even better? Hell yea boi.
Am looking forward to a video/discussion of the combat to see in detail if/how they may have addressed aerial combat, as that was kind of one of the less enjoyable parts of FF7R.
